Summary

In this amazing Hidden Object Game you are transported to a strange, darker version of a 1920’s city. Here you have to follow the clues and the advice of your new friends to try and work out why you are here. And where your companion has gone to as he vanished when you arrived. Using your detective skills and items you find you are able to uncover a fun adventure and discover the Hidden City for yourself.

Plotline

Arriving in a strange city with your companion who suddenly disappears you are thrust into a dangerous world. Creatures stalk the streets and there is a darkness over the city that everyone feels. With the aid of some new friends you go on the hunt for your companion and try to solve the mystery surrounding this magical place.

Gameplay

Beginning with a cut scene for the story you are introduced to the setting and able to get straight into the action with your first scene. In each different location there will be a list of items for you to find inside of a beautifully presented picture. The items appear in the top right of the screen and the list scrolls down as you find what you need. Simply click on the object when you see it.

Each time you find something it has a chance to reward you with an object, coins or energy. Once you complete the scene you see a list of rewards and also receive a few coins, some experience for your overall game and also for that particular scene. All of these things are useful to you in different parts of the game.

The experience you receive is used in two ways. The first is dedicated to the scene that you have played. Each one has a rank attached to it, the more you play it the higher your rank, and that means you can find more powerful items and keys for other parts of the game. You also have an overall level, which determines the scenes that you can play, as some require you to be a higher level before you can unlock them.

Each time you play a scene it will cost you some of your energy and the higher your level the more energy you spend. In each scene you can find some energy and every time you gain a level your bar is refilled as well as the total maximum amount goes up. There are also treasures you can find or buy that refill your energy.

You will meet lots of different characters as you play, and many of these have quests for you to complete. Quests tell the story as well as giving experience and useful items for you to use. You can open any quest on your list to see what you need, if you happen to find one of the things you need in any scene it will automatically complete the quest for you.

Many of the items are used in collections. Once a one of these is complete you can piece it together for a powerful reward. There is a collections button at the bottom of the screen and it will let you know when you have one ready to make. As well as the items you find there are also keystone objects that you have to have to make the collection. You have the option to buy these as well as hunt for them in the different scenes. You can also ask you friends for them too.

As well as quests there are also special events that happen, these have a fun theme and you can complete them as you continue through the regular game. They have a special scene unique to the event and you can also claim special rewards and items. These add a fun extra to the game and give you something different to play.

Outside of the scenes there are treasures on the streets and monsters roaming around. The chests give you daily prizes and the monsters can be fought off using special weapons. When you defeat a monster they drop a chest of items, sometimes these are needed for a quest and you can get the weapons from the scenes you play.

There are 2 currencies that are used, gold and rubies. Both of these can be found through quests and scenes, and you also have the option to buy Rubies for real money. The rubies are used to buy special items and boosters in the game and there are often special offers on prices for players.

There is a really nice and simple design to the game that makes it easy to play. All of the things you need to do are neatly presented and easy to follow. There are different kinds of scene and method of finding items that keeps it interesting and there is so much for you to do. The items move around in the scenes which helps them stay fresh.

There is a really nice community around Hidden City:Mystery of Shadows, as a G5 Entertainment game it has its own pages and forums you can access inside the game. There are lots of options for you to find friends or make new ones and there are Facebook pages too. Whilst this is a new game, as it is from such a popular developer there are lots of players already and regular players of these games will also jump into this one.

Graphics/Sound

Hidden City: Mystery of Shadows is presented in 2.5D and it looks simply gorgeous. The scenes are immaculately presented and the whole design of the game is seamless. Outside of the scenes the map looks gorgeous and all of the characters have a unique look and are easily identified.

There are also cut scenes that explain the story as you go and the overall look and feel of the game is really nice. The music is pleasant to listen to and the occasional voice overs add a depth to the game.

With a huge amount of content, a fun story and a darkness that is both intriguing and interesting there is a lot you can do in Hidden City:Mystery of Shadows.
