Return to Grimborough in this brand-new installment of one of the most beloved CSI-themed hidden object game series, Criminal Case – The Conspiracy! Team up with fan-favorite David Jones to solve whole new cases, adopt adorable police pets, unlock new regions on the map, and enjoy a new storyline filled with intense moments and of course, plot twists!
Criminal Case – The Conspiracy sends you back to the quiet town of Grimborough and puts you straight to work at the local police department (under new leadership, of course). You’ll get to work once again with David Jones as well as a host of new characters.
The storyline in this game follows the familiar format as in every other Criminal Case game. In other words, you’ll uncover a short story for every case you solve while there’s an overarching storyline that will eventually link up several of the more important cases and reveal the final villain.
Plus, this time around, the game doesn’t throw you a couple of slow balls to get you going. Instead, after the tutorial case, you’ll immediately be investigating the ex-coroner's (Nathan) murder.
Criminal Case – The Conspiracy is basically more of the same, almost-perfect formula used across all of Pretty Simple’s CSI-themed, hidden object game series. This means that you’ll be scouring various crime scenes for pieces of evidence and clues, and then you’ll need to get someone (or you can do it yourself) to analyze them. Usually, analysis done by someone else will cost you time while analysis done by yourself will cost you Stars. You’ll also need Stars to conduct interviews with witnesses or interrogate suspects.
Similar to previous games within the series, the game restricts your progress using three ways – 1. Energy which you’ll need to play hidden object scenes or puzzle; 2. Time, or more accurately the time you’ll need to wait for an analysis to complete; and 3. Stars that you can only earn by replaying a scene or a puzzle. This prevents players from just blazing through all the game’s content within days and it can be quite a good thing. After all, it forces players to slow down and take their time to enjoy the game.
Plus, if you’re really good in these games, you should be able to maximize each 20-energy points you spent on scenes and puzzles just so you can gain as many experience points as you can and hence, earn Stars a lot faster. How you can do that? Why… by capitalizing on the game’s combo multipliers. You can get up to a 6x bonus multiplier simply by finding all the hidden objects in a scene quickly. There are also mini-puzzles that you can play while analyzing certain evidence. For these mini-puzzles, you can even earn some energy points by completing the puzzles as fast as you can.
Even if you’re not that good in spotting hidden objects, don’t worry! The game allows you to bring a sidekick along with you whenever you head out to a crime scene. This “sidekick” functions as your “hints” and will help you highlight hidden objects that you have not yet found. However, if you don’t use any of the hints you have, you’ll get a nice boost to your final score since each unused hint translates into 20,000 points, which frankly is quite a lot if you times that by 5 (the maximum number of hints you can get per character).
Every revelation or insights you obtain about the case will be stored in the case file, and they will be needed when you’re ready to make an arrest. The “arrest” part of the game is basically a matching game where you’ll be matching the evidence you have with the information you have on the line of suspects. Once you’ve found a perfect match, then it’s time to put on those cuffs!
Like the previous games, you’ll eventually be able to unlock other features in the game, including cool custom clothes and accessories for your avatar, the police pet shop where you’ll be able to adopt a police pet, and also the wheel of fortune where you can get some freebies daily. As you close cases, you’ll be able to unlock other regions on the map as well.
If you are not familiar with the Criminal Case game series, then you’ll be happy to know that the game has tons of fans worldwide. It should be very easy for you to find friends who play the game and add them. After all, by having more friends, you’ll be able to bring them along to cases without having to wait for the cooldown to complete.
The comic book/visual novel-like graphical style in this game is similar to their other games, and it’s already perfect as it is. The music is pretty good as well, and is able to set the proper tone for each scene.
Although Criminal Case – The Conspiracy doesn’t really offer anything new to the tested-and-true format that had made the game series such a popular hit, maybe having a brand-new storyline with a whole new line of cases to solve is enough. Fans of Criminal Case will definitely want to play this game just for the story and to work with David Jones again, while newcomers may want to try it out just because it’s the latest game of one of the most beloved CSI-themed hidden object game series!
