Gameplay

Before you embark on a global fishing adventure, the cartoon version of Doug Hannon, the famous Bass Professor, will be guiding you through the basics of the game. For instance, fishing costs stamina points (as indicated by the “bottled water” icon) and the stamina will be restored back to the max over time.

The in-game mechanics for fishing is pretty straightforward and easy to learn. You’ll first cast your rod by pressing the “cast” button. After waiting for a brief while, you’ll hear splashing and 2 bars will appear near the middle top part of the screen. The green bar is the strength of the fish. The bigger the fish, the harder it is to reel the fish in. Some fishes are more aggressive and will fight more than others, causing the bar to turn red. Thus, for these kinds of fishes, you’ll need better equipment that can handle the strain the fish will be putting on the rod.

On the other hand, the blue bar, which is underneath the green bar, is the line tension. Keep a watchful eye on the line tension meter, because if the fish goes too far, your line will snap and the fish will escape. So, in other words, when the fish is fighting or the line tension gets too high, let go of the reel and let the line spool out a bit. Start reeling in again when the tension has dropped or the fish has stopped fighting. To do this, you’ll need to click and hold the reel. The reel will then automatically rotate in a clockwise direction as the fish is brought ever closer to you.

However, if your tackle or line was destroyed due to an ill-timed pull, don’t worry! You can easily repair the broken items by spending some coins. Or, if you prefer buying a new and much better item to replace it, well, you can at least sell the broken item off for some coins as well. You can also sell off your catches for coins, but for some, you may want to turn them loose instead. By releasing the fishes, you’ll earn bonus experience points as opposed to coins.

Catching fishes to earn coins can be a tad bit slow, especially at the beginning where all the beginner fishes can be sold for a mere 1 to 2 coins. Although there may be times when you’ll get trophy fishes (the rare version of the fish type) which pays out a bit more, you’ll still be hard-pressed to earn enough money to buy that new rod you’ve been eyeing at the store. Hence, Fishing Paradise provides quests for you to complete to earn more coins.

Another alternative yet lucrative method is by collecting coins from the many structures on the Bass Professor’s fishing and camping site. Each collection will cost you energy points and similar to stamina, you’ll have a limited number of energy points that can recharge itself over time. You can also invest some of your coins earned and construct new buildings on the site, such as small boat rental, stone pier, kayak rental, more tents, houses, shops, fish farms, gardens and many more, to increase your income and also decorate the place up. The site is pretty bare at first and it’s up to you to make it look beautiful! There are also a variety of ponds scattered around on the site. These ponds allow you to breed fishes that you’ve caught. Each pond can sustain its own maximum limit of fishes so be sure not to overload a pond with too many fishes.

Now that you have enough coins to go shopping, what are you waiting for then? Head over to the shop... proto! You will, after all, need better equipment and gear to help you catch bigger and much stronger fishes from any location from around the world. The shop has plenty of different grades of equipment available and almost all of them are level-locked. This means that you’ll first need to reach the necessary level before you can purchase the item. There are some items that can only be unlocked after you’ve completed the challenge required.

Not to mention, the higher the grade of an item, the better it is in terms of handling the strain the bigger fishes can put on your rod and some may even allow you to target rarer species as well! There are many different baits and lures too. Different types of fishes will have different preference for the bait or lure you use.

There are plenty of other wearable items and accessories that can increase the maximum limit of stamina and energy of your fisherman, enabling you to fish for longer periods of time as well as collect more coins from the many buildings on the Bass Professor’s site. Once purchased, you must remember to equip it in your inventory before heading back to your cozy fishing spot for a second round of fishing.

So, you want to be a professional fisherman? But not everyone can make pro, it takes lots of hard work and dedication, still think you’ve got what it takes? Well, if your answer to both the above questions is “YESS!!”, then perhaps you’re ready to participate in challenging fishing tournaments so you can test your skills against other fishermen around the world for fabulous prizes.

Fishing Paradise 3D offers many global tournaments including the beginner tournament whereby only level 1 to 10 players can sign up for. In this tournament, the winner is determined by looking at the total weight of all the fishes caught within the fixed period of time. Coin weekly is another tournament that has similar rules as to the beginner tournament without the level cap. There are also specialized tournaments that require s specific type of fish caught, such as the Triple Bass Slam, whereby only the top 3 Largemouth Bass (in terms of weight) will be considered in the judging process, or the Crappie Challenge whereby only the total weight of White Crappie will be taken into account when determining the winner.

Most of these tournaments require a set entrance fee of in-game coins, but some may require Shiners (premium currency) instead. Shiner tournaments are a lot more competitive as you’ll win hundreds of Shiners in return... provided that you get into the top 5 spots. Yes, you have not read wrongly... only the top 5 participants will earn prizes in Fishing Paradise 3D no matter how many participants signed up for the tournament.

Fishing Paradise 3D has a pretty vibrant community, albeit a tad bit smaller than other fishing simulation games. It also has around 116 thousand likes on its Facebook fan page.
