Like all fishing simulation game, Gone Fishing starts you off with a free rod, hook and some lures, along with a nice tutorial to guide you through the basics of the game. Cast the line” button to start fishing!
Once you have a catch, the bobble will splash around noisily and the “pull” button will light up in green. Press “pull” to start reeling the fish in! The bar that appears on your screen with a fish icon sitting on it after you cast your line will become active. To reel the fish in, you’ll need to get the fish icon from right to left, but you should be careful not to cause the bar to fill up too much or it’ll turn from green to red. If this happens, you may not only lose your fish but you’ll damage the fishing rod as well! However, if you don’t click on “pull” enough, you’ll lose your fish too! You’ll need to find a balance between pulling and letting go so the fish you’re attempting to reel in won’t get away!
Furthermore, there are many types of fishes that you can catch in Gone Fishing and all of them are based on fishes that you can actually fish up in real life! This includes the Minnow, Sunbleak fish, Riffle Minnow, Spined Loach, Gudgeon and many more. Sometimes, you may even obtain a fish with some sort of awards tagged to it, like ideal fish, royal fish, growing fish and others. The best award though is the “best personal record” award, which you’ll get whenever you managed to fish up a fish that is your biggest one so far (for that particular species of fish). Not to mention, certain fishes go for a specific type of bait only. So, by using different baits while fishing as the same location, you can still get different types of fishes as a result! Do see how many types of fishes you can catch in each location!
Fishes that are caught can be sold at a price per kg rate and you can fish as many times as you like as long as you have the bait and the time since there are no energy restrictions! So fish away! However, if you don’t sell your fishes within the number of days stated (the fishes can usually last a week), the fishes will become spoilt and will have to be thrown away. Moreover, you can also make “dummies” of your best catches and it’ll show up on your profile. You can only have up to 12 dummies though, unless you are willing to spend premium cash to expand your dummies slots. Do take note that once a fish is made a dummy, you will no longer be able to sell the fish if you decide to discard it one day.
With the money you’ve earned, do feel free to head over to the in-game shop to buy some better equipment and baits. Getting good equipments are important in this game as certain fishes have a penchant for a certain type of tool or bait you use. For example, bigger fishes can only be caught using bigger hooks, so if you want to catch bigger fishes, make sure you have the right gear to do so! Besides hooks, there are plenty of fishing rods, spinnings, bobbins, spoons, baits, lures, which act like boosts in this game and can help you to attract more fishes, and even landing nets that you can buy. Landing nets make fishing easier for you, but you only get to fish using the net for a limited number of times and after that, the nets will be broken!
There are even are soups that will give you more strength and ease the fishing process. If you want more strength so you can haul bigger fishes out from the water, you’ll then need to get treats from the shop or from your friends (by asking for them)! However, if your tone is too high, you’ll start catching garbage more often, so again, achieving a balance for all things are rather important in Gone Fishing. The only downside is that shop in Gone Fishing has a rather messy interface though.
Looking for some competition? You’re in luck! Gone Fishing features plenty of fishing duels and tourneys that you can participate in! The various types of contests include, 1-on-1 fishing duels to see who’ll manage to catch the biggest fish within the stipulated time limit, 5-vs-5 team fishing contests as well as individual competition that is a bit like a tournament whereby 10 players will compete with each other to get the biggest fish within the period of time provided. Some contests are free to enter while others are high stakes contests whereby you’ll have to pay a hefty fee to enter the competition! You can also purchase tickets at the shop to sign up for fishing tournaments but it’ll cost you premium cash.
Gone Fishing also provides a whole lot of other features, such as collections. Complete collections to earn some goodies, like curd that scares away fishes that grow below a certain size, and special 1 day passes to exclusive club-owned fishing spots.
The community in Gone Fishing is approaching its 4th year birthday (similarly to Go Fishing) and its community is still going strong! In fact, the game boasts of having more than 14 million players even though the number of likes on its Facebook fan page doesn’t exactly reflect this. This is mainly because most of its players are on various mobile platforms instead. Anyway, if you love fishing with some friends, be sure to hop on over to the fan page and meet new ones there!
In terms of sound, Gone Fishing provides a soothing music filled with various sounds of nature that you’d hear while fishing, such as frogs croaking and birds chirping. Sometimes, you can even hear a fellow fisherman humming to himself nearby! Graphics-wise, the game offers plenty of beautifully astonishing sceneries that will take your breath away!
In short, Gone Fishing is a rather popular fishing simulation game that offers plenty of astonishing fishing spots that you can fish at which are scattered across the world!
