Summary

Do you long for the chance to go fishing yet you’re stuck in the middle of a city with no foreseeable holiday in sight? Well, you’re in luck! Immerse yourself in virtual fishing in this amazing fishing simulation game, Go Fishing! Choose among dozens of realistic tackles and baits as well as travel to the various best fishing spots from around the world! Complete adventurous quests and compete with other fishermen in real-time tournaments to see who the master fisher is! Do you think you have what it takes to catch the biggest fish in the world? Well, play Go Fishing and find out!

Gameplay

The game starts off by handing you a couple of nice tackle and bait. Since you’re pretty much set up, you’re ready to cast your line! The controls in this game are extremely simple to pick up. After casting, you just need to wait until the bobble starts to wobble and the “Pull” button will change into “Strike”. Just click and hold on the “strike” button to hook the fish. However, reeling a fish in is not as easy as just clicking on a button as Go Fishing provides some sort of mini-game to let you play as you try to reel the fish in.

Once you’ve started pulling in your catch, a bar will appear. As you turn the reel, the bar will gradually fill up and you should try to hit the border (the blue line) without crossing it. If you crossed it though, the bar will turn from green to red and you’ll risk breaking your rod. Thus, if this happens, release your hold on the “strike button” to let the bar drain out a little before clicking on it again when the bar is back in the green zone.

You may have noticed that there is also a small fish icon on top of the bar. If the fish resist and you keep pulling, the fish icon will turn red as well! You may risk snapping your line and losing your fish if you ignored the warning. It may seem complicated at first but you’ll be able to get into the motions rather easily, making Go Fishing a very relaxing fishing simulation game to play. You can even take a screenshot of your catch – though the resulting picture is of rather low quality

But of course, if you crave a challenge, be assured to know that there is a variety of fishes that you can catch in Go Fishing and some of them can be truly a challenge for even the best fishermen! Fishes in this game can be separated into 2 main categories – freshwater and saltwater fishes. Some examples of freshwater fishes include the common “Crappie” and “Roach” while for saltwater fishes, you have the “Atlantic Salmon” and “Black Grouper”. You can even catch sharks in this game, such as tiger shark and lemon shark. Some fishes even come with caviar (fish eggs) or, if you’re really lucky, you might also get to catch the rare and coveted “trophy” fishes too!

In addition, different fishing locations offer different types of fishes. So, if you want to catch them all, you’ll have to travel around the world to the various fishing spots and patiently fish for them! These fishing locations are level-locked though, so you will need to level up before you can head to new areas, such as Loch Ness, Amur River, Kenai River, Hawaii, Great Barrier Reef, Black Sea and there’s even a Hazardous Area for you to fish at. Not to mention, each new area you’ve unlocked contains a couple of local fishing spots that you can go to as well. However, some locations may require additional tools for you to get there, for example, a rubber dinghy or fishing permits that you can buy at the store.

Besides fishes, sometimes, you will also get an unexpected “catch” that is usually consisted of trash and junk, such as a moldy cap and a rusty wheel. These items however can be kept as part of your collection and when you’ve completed a set of collectibles, you can turn them in to claim some really sweet prizes!

Surely, it’s high time to swap out that shoddy equipment that you’re using? However, before you can do so, you’ll need plenty of money. There are 2 ways to earn money in this game, namely by completing quests and by selling the fishes you’ve caught. Fishes don’t sell for much though, so it’s best if you focus more on getting you quests done.

With some freshly earned cash in hand, it’s finally time to buy new equipments at the store! The game offers quite a range of fishing tools and equipments that may significantly help you. Some examples include fish cages, boots and folding chairs that can increase your energy capacity, which you’ll need for fishing as well as sunglasses and clothes to reduce rapid energy loss in certain locations, for instance, clothes are used to fend off the cold in some of the colder fishing spots.

You can also buy tackle, such as hooks, lines, and various lures (bass lure, rainbow lure, etc), along with the bait like peas, cheese, snake pieces, bread and fresh meat. If you prefer, you could also buy tackle sets instead or chum that attracts certain types of fishes for a duration. Some of the more exclusive tackle and bait require premium currency (pearls) to purchase. Thankfully, the game also gives you 1 free pearl per level up, so if you save them all up, you can get some of the good stuff at the shop as well!

Community

Go Fishing is approaching its 4th year birthday and its community is still going strong! The game has recently hit 1.2 million likes at its Facebook fan page whereby most Go Fishing players hang out. Feel free to head on over there to meet and add new friends! Fishing is, after all, a sport that is best enjoyed with a companion, be it a friend or a loved one.

Graphics/ Sound

The graphics in Go Fishing is absolutely stunning as the beautiful scenery will definitely captivate your heart. In terms of sound, well, there are no music in this game. Instead, you get to listen to the sounds of ducks or seagulls, the rippling of still waters or waves, depending where you are fishing at. There are the occasional weird sounds as well, which is kind of creepy and seem out of place, such as the sound of somebody laughing madly in a distance.

Conclusion

In short, Go Fishing is a very popular fishing simulation game that contains breathtaking fishing spots from around the world that you can fish at. The fishing mechanism in the game is very easy to learn and may just take awhile to master. However, when you’re faced with some of the biggest and “baddest” freshwater and saltwater fishes in this game, it may take all your wits to stay patient while reeling the fish in or you might lose it and damaging your equipment in the process! Besides fishes, even the trash you fish up can be collected and turned in for awesome goodies! The game also offers a huge variety of rods, tackles, baits, chums as well as equipments that you’ll need to boost up your energy or reduce its loss. You can purchase items, such as the rubber dinghy, that you’ll need to access certain fishing spots in an area. So what are you waiting for? Escape from your dull work routine and the noisy city hassle and venture into the peaceful wilderness of the best fishing spots around the world today by playing Go Fishing!
