Gameplay

Emerland Solitaire: Endless Journey starts off with character selection. You’ll need to choose either a male or female character along with the portrait you want to display. There are up to 7 different characters available for each gender, so in terms of options, you have plenty! Furthermore, you’ll also be able to unlock new character portraits as you progress in the game. Due to this, you’ll be able to switch characters rather easily in this game (though not the gender).

Like any other solitaire game, Emerland Solitaire contains the pretty basic rules of solitaire. This means that in order to solve the solitaire layouts in each level, you’ll need to remove all the cards on the board by clicking on the higher or lower card in sequence depending on your open hand at the bottom. For example, if you’re the card in the foundation (on hand) is a 6, then you can collect either a 5 or a 7. On an ace, however, you can put a 2 or a King, while for a Queen, you can collect a Jack or a King. It doesn’t matter what suit the cards are, as long as the value of the card is correct, you’ll be able to collect it.

By following the aforementioned rule, you’ll need to collect as many cards as you can from the board until you ran out of cards to collect! A quick tip though – you might want to solve the longest rows or columns first, since, obviously, the row or column has a lot more cards that you’ll need to uncover before you can match them. Once you have no more valid moves, you can then click on the deck that is right beside your foundation card to uncover a new card. However, do take note that you have limited deck cards in each level. When you ran out of cards and valid moves, and have not yet completed the level, you’ll fail the level.

In addition, Emerland Solitaire: Endless Journey also features a nifty combo system for you to earn more points... that is if you’re able to collect at least 5 cards consecutively. By doing so, you’ll fill up the star combo meter that will naturally earn you stars. Since each level offers up to 3 stars for you to earn, combos play a rather huge role in this game. But of course, the third and last star can only be earned, not solely through combos, but you’ll also need to clear the board of all cards.

Interestingly, Emerland Solitaire: Endless Journey provides a huge range of special cards and characters that can be of help to you on your arduous journey! One of these special cards includes the wildcards. These cards can be uncovered as you’re playing the game and they will be stored in your inventory for your later use. However, unlike Joker cards in other solitaire games, wildcards are numbered, meaning that you’ll need to use that card at face value... much like any other cards on the board or on the deck.

There are also plenty of medieval characters who will help you along your endless journey in Emerland Solitaire! This includes helpful knights and wizards who will allow you to change a random card or undo your last move, respectively. However, after the first use, you’ll then need to purchase their services by collecting energy potions which can be randomly found under uncovered cards on the deck. Energy potions can be rather hard to come by in the game, so you’ll need to be frugal about the use of the services rendered by these helpful characters.

On the downside (which coincidentally involves the game’s unique lives system), lives that are given to you are used up by playing each new game. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose the game, you’ll still lose a heart. You have 5 starting lives, but eventually, all these lives will run out and you’ll need more. You can get them for free provided that you are able to remove all the cards on the board in a level... which can be a pretty tall order to do since you are usually given rather limited deck cards to begin with. Naturally, these lives will be regained over time, but you can speed things up by buying more lives as well.

Community

The community at Emerland Solitaire: Endless Journey is pretty sizeable as it is a one of the top free-to-play solitaire games on Big Fish Games right now. However, if you want to meet and chat with your fellow players as well as getting tips on how to solve some of the much tougher levels, well, you’ll have better luck searching for the game’s forums rather than a Facebook fan page (there isn’t one, unfortunately)

Graphics/ Sound

The graphics in this game is not only beautiful but they look amazing as well! The many background images are all really well drawn and the patterns on the cards are very brilliantly designed too! Sound-wise, Emerland Solitaire: Endless Journey features a variety of medieval-themed tunes that are pleasant to listen to and may somehow end up getting stucked in your head... it’s THAT good! Overall though, the game has excellent graphics and sound that manages to increase the addictiveness and immersion of the game.

All in all, Emerland Solitaire: Endless Journey is an enjoyable and addictive free-to-play Solitaire game that has a rather unique lives system that seems to be more of a hindrance than a nice feature. In spite of that though, the game has really nice gameplay, amazing graphics and sound, and provides plenty of challenging levels of solitaire for you to solve!
