Pet Rescue Puzzle Saga is the highly-anticipated sequel to the hugely popular block-busting franchise by King, offering hours upon hours of fun as you bust blocks and save animals from whatever predicament they are in. As you play, you’ll unlock new animals in different biomes that you can then rescue to Fern’s pet shelter.
The game begins by introducing you to Fern the Fox. She is a professional pet rescuer and she runs a shelter for homeless pets, but she needs your help! Remove all the obstacles in her way so she could do what she does best, and bring all the rescued animals to her shelter where you can dress them up and buy toys to play with them.
The gameplay in Pet Rescue Puzzle Saga is very similar to the original, so fans of the latter would definitely be able to ease right in, but even if you’ve not played the first game, you should still be fine since the game’s really very easy to learn.
Basically, all you need to do is to find at least two blocks of the same color together and tap on them to bust the blocks. You’ll start off collecting a specific number of blocks of certain colors, but eventually, the game will add in obstacles like leaves and ice cubes to make things a lot entertaining. In fact, the objective of the levels in this game vary quite a bit, from having to clear a path for the monkey you’re rescuing to climb to clearing blocks near eggs just to hatch the eggs and free the baby birds. As you play, you’ll encounter even more animals all of which will require some effort to save.
Stuck at a tough level? Well, the game offers many power-ups that you can use. To get them though, you’ll need to destroy groups of 6 blocks at least. With 6 blocks, you’ll get firecrackers which will clear away entire rows or columns, depending on its direction, when tapped on. You can also get bombs (9 blocks) and what looks like an electric fan (14 blocks) to help you complete a level. These power-ups can even be combined to produce a greater effect.
Aside from power-ups, there are boosters like the hammer, which will allow you to remove a single piece from the playing area, as well. These boosters cannot be earned by playing levels, but you can buy them using premium currency. However, if you do fail a level, you’ll then lose a life. You get 5 lives in total but don’t worry – your lost lives will automatically regenerate over time.
Pet Rescue Puzzle Saga offers plenty of levels and maps for you to play in. Each map consists of 15 levels, with the final level being a tad bit more difficult than the others. Each level also has 3 stars for you to earn. By getting a 3-star rating, you’ll be rewarded with slightly more coins – coins that you can then spend on your cute, rescued pets at the shelter.
Pet Rescue Puzzle Saga can be considered as quite the social game mainly because there’s a score-based leaderboard for every level you play. You can see how well you rank among your friends and among the other players around the world. But of course, this is entirely optional, if you don’t like competing and want to just play the game for fun, then feel free to do so.
Similar to most casual games, Pet Rescue Puzzle Saga is filled with bright, cheerful colors and brilliant animations and effects that will just drive you to play some more. I also really like the short cinematic before you start playing each new zone. For some reason, I find the exaggerated distress that the animal featured in the clip show really funny and adorable.
All in all, Pet Rescue Puzzle Saga is a really fun block-busting casual game that really lives up to the popularity of its (franchise) title. Not to mention, the game is not only addictive and fun; the oh-so-cute-I-could-die pets can definitely drain out all the accumulate stress you may have in just a couple of games. So, if you’re a fan of casual games, especially of Pet Rescue Saga, you’ll definitely want to play this one!
