Plotline
The world of Archlord 2 is parallel to the world of Archlord, presenting an alternate history of the world of Chantra. Chantra is governed and protected by a god-created and immensely powerful being, the Archlord. However, darkness brewed and corrupted the guardian of Chantra, turning the immortal Archlord into a formidable enemy. Naming himself the “Lord of Chaos”, he openly defied the gods and tried to take their place by conquering and razing the world he had once protected with his new army of demons and monstrous creatures from the Abyss. The gods needed another to oppose their wayward creation. They created another species of Archlords, but this time, these Archlords will not have eternal life. The Archlords won the war for the gods and pushed Chaos back into the Abyss. The powers contained in the Archlords were then stored for the moment when they will be needed again.
However, the greediness for power caused a conflict between 2 factions, namely Azuni and Crunn, both seeking to use the powers to eliminate the other and to rule the world. The seeds of discord have been sown and these factions will not give up until the other is destroyed. Which faction will you side with? This heavy burden lies with you and you alone.
Gameplay
After being treated to an adrenaline-pumping cinematic, you will need to choose between the 2 different factions as well as the 4 races in the game – Azuni, consisting of humans and Dragon Scions, or Crunn, which include, Orcs and Moon Elves. The basic concept of the game – the war between orcs and humans, seem to be plucked right out from World of Warcraft. In fact, as you play the game, you’ll also notice several names that are clearly WoW-related. It is as if the game is giving WoW, a huge nod in respect.
After choosing a faction and a race, you will need to select your main weapon of choice! Some of them obviously fit the mold of the class archetype of MMORPGs. For example, the deciding to use a bow indicates that your character will become an archer, a ranged physical damage-dealer or if you prefer a hefty big axe, then you’ll probably end up as a melee dps. Don’t worry too much about choosing the right character though. In Archlord 2, you are allowed to create more than 1 character and he or she can be of different factions too! Lastly, customize your character by changing his or her hairstyle, eye color, body size or facial features and don’t forget to give your character a name. Once everything is done, you’re ready to delve into the world of Chantra!
Let’s start off with quests, the bread and butter of every MMO, shall we? Questing in Archlord 2 is pretty easy considering that the game provides you with auto-pathing to automatically bring your character to the target questing location. If you prefer to do it manually, you are also given the freedom to do so. The game offers a minimap that will have all your questing locations clearly-marked for the deviant few. There is even a quest tracker which lists out all your available quests along with the summary of their respective objectives.
Archlord 2 has similar combat controls as the basic MMORPG or even RPG. You will target the enemy you want to kill by clicking on it and you can then start attacking it. However, this game employs the skill combo system whereby certain skills have a chain of combos that you can perform for increased damage and a lot of win!
The game also features weapon proficiency, which play a rather huge role here. Weapon proficiency will determine whether you can use that brand new cleaver you’ve pulled from the hands of a dead mob. Even if you don’t have the required proficiency (but you have fulfilled the level requirement), you can still use the weapon. The only thing is that the weapon will have reduced attributes and damage until you finally reached the proficiency level that it needs. Your character can learn all the available weapons for your character race. For instance, for moon elves, you will have access to the wand, orb, lance and bow.
Since character class is very dependent on which weapon you use, weapon proficiency is intertwined with your skill tree, making it even more important! Every time your weapon proficiency levels up, you will get skill points, which you can then assign to your class’s skill tree to improve on current skills or to unlock new ones. The skill tree in Archlord 2 is pretty complex, making it easier for you to customize your character’s build and make him or her unique!
Moreover, every time your character levels up, you will also be given 2 stats points for you to increase any of your stats, namely strength, intelligence, agility, spirit and stamina, in the character information window. Each of these stats will contribute to a part of your character’s attributes, for example, increasing spirit will increase your character’s mana pool while if you increase your stamina, you will gain more health. You will have to assign these points carefully as the game does not provide free resets – you will need to shell out some real money to reset your stats and even your skill tree.
What about professions you may wonder? Well, in Archlord 2, your character will automatically learn all crafting (weapon crafting, armor crafting, cooking, jewelry crafting and potion brewing) and gathering (ore, plants and ether) professions. You can access your profession tab by going to your character information and selecting ‘expertise’. Gathering and crafting are very simple and straightforward. You don’t have to bother yourself with crafting tools that clog up your bag slots or needing to get any specialty training to unlock the next level in crafting. Best of all, you don’t even need to find a crafting station to do your work! In fact, you can craft whenever you please!
However, for crafting professions, you will start off with a blank slate - the manuals to craft the items are not given. To get manuals, you must get lucky while questing, buy them from crafting merchants or get them from the many gifts the game showers on you as you progress in the game. Each manual will have a certain proficiency level that is required. Furthermore, there is a chance that you may fail to harvest or craft an item if your proficiency level barely reached the proficiency level required in order to harvest or craft the item.
Trading is the lifeblood of any MMORPG and Archlord 2 is no different. The game provides an auction house (AH) for players to sell items for cash. There are no NPC in-charge of the AH, instead, similarly to crafting, you can access it from your item menu. This means that you can trade whenever you want, wherever you want! It is not very realistic in this way, but it’s so convenient!
The game also took a leaf out of Ragnarok Online’s book and allows its players to set up their own personal shops. You can sell up to 8 items in the shop, but you’ll have to share a cut of the profits with the owner of the land that you set up shop on in the form of taxes.
Archlord 2 has one of the most intricate gear-enhancing systems that the gaming world has ever seen! There are so many aspects of it that it may feel daunting to learn every bit of it, though the basics of the system can still be easily picked up… more so if you have any experience with MMORPGs.
In this game, you can disassemble unwanted gear for a chance of acquiring reinforcement or alchemy materials. There are 3 ways you can disassemble, with the normal way being free of charge, but has a lower chance of getting only reinforcement materials. The advanced way will cost you money, but has a higher percentage of getting the materials, including both alchemy and reinforcement materials, you need. The last and most expensive way is the special disassembly. It maximizes the probability of getting an alchemy ingredient. These materials obtained can then be used to craft other enhancing items like elemental or reinforcement stones.
Reinforcement stones can be used to –what else?- reinforce your armor, weapons or accessories. Every reinforcement process has a certain percentage of success and for the first 3 reinforcements; the percentage is usually very high. However, as you add on more reinforcements, you’ll risk losing 1 level of reinforcement, resetting all the reinforcements on the item or, in the worst scenario, having the item destroyed. It is a very risky and yet, a very rewarding way to get your stats up, particularly if you have the best end-game gear in Archlord 2. You can also socket elemental stones to your gear to increase its attributes by a significant amount, provided that the stones you use are of higher grade and quality.
What about the fun PvE and PvP aspects in Archlord 2? Well, you’ll need tickets (instance dungeon tickets and skirmish tickets) for certain types of PvE and PvP battle in this game, which can be earned in abundance by doing quest or killing mobs. For dungeons, you will unlock them at level 10. Dungeons will scale up their difficulty depending on the level of most of the members in the group. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of getting a group manually, there’s a nice dungeon matching system that you can use to your advantage!
PvP in Archlord 2 can be very intense, hardcore and exciting! There are 4 different types of PvP battles, which include duels, battlegrounds (team vs team), skirmishes (smaller-scaled battlegrounds for solo fights or for a small party of up to a maximum of 5 players) and contested areas (open season!). While skirmishes only have 3 maps that you can choose to play in, there are plenty of maps for battlegrounds! The maps for battlegrounds rotate day by day, for example, on Monday, you’ll be playing relic capture while on Friday, there is a city siege for you to enjoy. Many of these maps emphasize on completing objectives rather than raking up individual killing streaks.
The most important battleground though is the Archlord Finals held on every Sundays. This is when, if you win, you’ll be given the title of the nth Archlord of the week! Do note that the Archlord can only be appointed from among great warriors and veterans of many battlefields. By achieving this title, you’ll have proven your combat prowess to the entire Archlord 2 community, and people will learn to fear your name!
Contested area PvP are very much like world PvP. There are four level-based contested areas per faction in the world of Chantra, with the lowest level requirement set at level 5. However, most PvP takes place in battlegrounds and you can hardly blame them, battlegrounds are extremely fun to play!
There are plenty other features, such as mounts (increases movement speed), portals (for you to move between footholds even faster), equipment durability, insanely-awesome dragon pets, megaphone (which allows you communicate with everyone in the same faction for 1k gold) and many others. Sign up for Archlord 2 and find out more yourself!
Community
Due to its youth, it may be a bit early to say that the population in Archlord 2 is not very huge. That being said, it has an amazing community that love to help each other out, even if you’re from the opposing faction. There are also guilds in this game. Guilds are not just a vital part of the game, since a guild provides awesome bonuses to its members; it’ll also make the game much more enjoyable. So, go ahead and join a guild or, if you have the necessary passion and dedication, why not create your own guild and lead your fellow guildies to glory?
Graphics/Sound
The graphics are absolutely stunning and realistic, especially when you set the resolution to the highest setting. If your computer cannot handle the high resolution mode, don’t despair! The default resolution is pretty much high-definition in its own right as well, so there will still be beautiful eye-candies for you to feast your eyes on!
The soundtracks in Archlord 2, consisting of a variety of soothing orchestral compositions with a choir, are certainly Hollywood-worthy. The music was composed by Cris Velasco, a renowned composer and a multi-award winner for over 40 game music, including triple-A titles like God of War and Borderlands.
Conclusion
Archlord 2 has everything an MMO player would ask for! It has 4 unique races with over 7 classes, an amazing combat system that utilizes combos, weapon masteries and an extensive skill tree. The game also offers a robust trading system, auto-routing for quests and 8 professions that you can level at your leisure. For players who crave some action, there are plenty of exciting and challenging PvE and PvP encounters in this game. Not to mention, Archlord 2 has a steadily increasing player base since its release less than 1 year ago. So, what are you waiting for? Sign up now and see if you have what it takes to be the next Archlord!
