Summary

The Eldar are all finesse, Space Marines are all tradition, and Chaos is just chaos. War isn't fun with them. They employ all of these stratagems and commands; everyone is worried about everything. You are tired and want to unwind; there is no time to spare being all tactical. It is just added stress, and no one needs that kind of baggage when down in the dumps. So, what can help you lift your spirits up and scratch that warmongering itch?

Well, we have the perfect title for you. Here comes Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef! Just as the name suggests, it is an action-packed good time. Play as an Ork delivering the blessings of Gork and Mork to everyone you encounter. Traverse skillfully designed maps with lots of verticalities. Decimate hordes of unlucky beings with the business end of whatever weapon you currently have. Finally, enjoy the experience and live life krumpin' your way to the top.

Plotline

Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef takes place on the humie (humans) planet of Luteus Alpha. Your clan has identified this sector to be rich in materiel to supply your lovable Waaaaagh (war) in the Armageddon sector.

The Warboss Gutrekka has made it his mission to liberate all of the planet's resources and have some fun exterminating what resistance exists on the ground side.

You play as a high-ranking commando under Gutrekka. As you were in transit for a raid, he took a liking to your headgear. Being the greedy leader that he is, the boss steals it from you and leaves you for dead. This establishes the goal for the entirety of the game: Find your way back to Gutrekka and stomp him into oblivion to take back what is yours.

Gameplay

This title is a hand-drawn 2D action-adventure shooter promising a whole lot of dakka (firepower), gore, and explosions! Blast your way through the hive city of Luteus Prime while battling various enemies like Humans, Genestealer cultists, and your fellow Orks (everyone is a target).

You move in a side-scrolling manner in 4 cardinal directions: up, down, left & right, using the left joystick. Aim your weapons with the right joystick. Pressing the ZL trigger lets you jump; doing it a second time activates a small mid-air boost feature. The L trigger allows you to throw a grenade, and these are best used to create space and take out groups of enemies at once. Slice and dice with the R trigger by using a deadly melee attack. The ZR trigger is the one that activates the primary weapon currently equipped. There are other functions as well, but those are the important ones to take note of right now. Also, it is nice of the developers to allow anyone to change the keybindings at any time to suit one's playstyle.

The mechanics are fairly simple and do not differ that much from similar titles in the genre. Do not be fooled, though; thanks to its ease of access, epic combos can be pulled off with a little skill and practice. Surely anyone can be an optimized killing machine after playing around in a few runs.

Community

The game supports local and online multiplayer! There is a co-op mode, where you and your friends team up to take on the explosive campaign. If being friendly is out of the question, you can also dabble in some player-versus-player goodness.

Graphics/Sound

The beauty of Warhammer 40,000 is its ability to have realism and absurdly fantastical things exist on the same plane. This is why the classic 2D side-scrolling goodness, even though it is a far cry from other titles under this intellectual property, is a perfect fit! It just feels natural, especially regarding the Ork race. The color schemes are consistent with the other art released over the years. There is an abundance of earthly colors, rust orange, and a whole ton of mean green.

This user interface is just as quirky as everything. It has that Orkish theme to it all, yet retains to be understandable.

The story is told through voiced narrations and incredible cinematics. These are further reinforced with superb voice acting. The one portraying the playable Ork delivers on the fantasy. The line delivery and accents are so spot on. It is hilarious to listen to. You can also hear Tyrannid cultists and Astra Militarum with their own unique dialogue.

Music is another positive thing it provides. The background music is fun and energetic, and it hypes you up to mow down everything standing in your way. Original songs are also present; the Ork rock song players will encounter in the earlier levels is such a treat.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef is a must-have for fans of the franchise. It is fun, action-packed, and just a chill time. The game's available digitally but if you're an avid Warhammer collector, know that you can get the physical versions of the regular and collector’s edition today. You owe it to yourself to have a krumpin' good time!
