Summary
Hidden Numbers: Twisted Worlds is a puzzle game with different puzzle elements that was originally released for mobile platforms. Now released on Steam, it still retained all of the original content from the mobile version. You tackle different puzzles, all in different formats ranging from spotting the hidden object or combining numbers to clear them out.
Plotline
Set in a world where you can travel to different dimensions through time from your original world and the alternate twisted world. Your mission is to uncover secrets in different timelines and obtain items from that period and use it to create a new one for your timeline. You will be travelling to different regions of the world from ancient Japan to the Titanic and the futuristic Earth.
Gameplay
Hidden Numbers: Twisted Worlds plays like your usual puzzle-based hidden object game that you found on Steam, but this game covers a different take to the genre by offering a wide variety of game modes in solving puzzles. And another interesting part is that the game is free to play with a stamina system to control the pacing of the game.
Your task is to complete objectives from different timelines to uncover some of the mysteries in that time period. Once you complete that task, you will obtain an item from that period and can use it for future use in your current timeline. Then you can unlock more items by crafting any of the items that you found throughout your adventure, though it may not provide any new content, it adds some novelty of collecting items from your journey.
You travel to different time periods to solve some mysteries, and each of these levels may feature different puzzles. The most common puzzle is the hidden objects mechanic where you must find a series of objects from your list in a large picture. These items are well hidden in the picture as they are sometimes blended in the colors of the image or hiding behind another object.
Players with sharp eyes can identify the hidden objects faster, but for those who are having difficulty spotting the items, they can use power ups to give hints on where some of the items are hidden. Once you managed to find all of the items, you clear that level and earn scores based on how many attempts that you made to find the items and how long it took you to complete the level.
But instead of finding objects in Hidden Numbers, you are searching for numbers, words or symbols. It still has the same feel when looking for hidden objects, but the difficulty of finding symbols are proven to be higher as they usually have one set of color that can easily blend to any background in the picture. But the change has no dramatic effect on the overall experience in the hidden object mechanic in Hidden Numbers, so you won’t have any problem enjoying the game.
But aside from the usual hidden object gameplay, Hidden Numbers also has some mix of classic puzzle game that is similar with the popular Puzzle Bubble. You throw a ball that is labelled with a number and you must match it to its identical number, once it hits the matching number, all of the effected balls on the field will have its labelled number increased by one. When it reaches the value of 5 and you land a ball with the same number, the affected balls will disappear. Your goal is to reach a certain target score or clear the entire area.
There are also some game modes featured in the game that provide some variety to the challenge. One example is matching numbers by swapping blocks, and you must remove of the blocks in the field to clear the level. Completing a level earns you experience points and currency, levelling up will increase the stamina so you can complete more levels and you can unlock more levels as your level progresses. You can earn bonus exp, gold or stamina by interacting on the main menu screen as there are random occurrences where a creature pops out on the screen to give you an item or you can click on the treasure box to open.
Community
Though Hidden Numbers is a free to play game, it lacks any multiplayer options which is not a surprise considering some hidden object games are designed as a single player experience. However the game features some social media interactions such as sharing game progression with your friends who are also playing the game as well as new game updates to keep you posted for new content.
Graphics/ Sound
The visuals as expected are not that breath-taking compared to a triple a game. But it still provided a satisfactory user interface that lets you feel like you are in a different world, although you can notice that some assets do not have high definition quality which will show its pixelated images on a large screen. The game features some soundtracks that add a sense of mystery that helps elevate your mood when solving puzzles.
Conclusion
Hidden Numbers: Twisted Worlds is a fun game that showcase different types of gameplay rather than just sticking to the hidden object mechanic. It may not have the most impressive visuals, but it still has that impact for those who want a casual game with a variety of games to challenge their minds.
