Welcome to Hotel Enigma, where strange things happen around the clock. However, something awful has occurred. Of all the luck you can get, you arrived in Hotel Enigma at the exact moment one of the guests disappeared. The porter, Irwin O’Shea has been forced to lock down the hotel since all the inhabitants of the hotel are under suspicion and you’re now stuck there. According to the maid, strange things happen around the hotel all the time, but no one has disappeared before! Since you’re stuck here, perhaps you’ll be able to help crack the case and find the missing guest... or perhaps you’ll find something even more...
After an intriguing introduction, the game starts in earnest with a tutorial. Basically though, if you’ve played other hidden object games extensively before, particularly room-based hidden object games, you should quickly be able to familiarize yourself with the many features in Hotel Enigma.
Hotel Enigma contains plenty of rooms that are level locked, and with time and the necessary level, you’ll be able to explore them all! Each room consists of a hidden object scene and whenever you enter a room, you’ll use up certain amounts of energy. Once your energy is depleted, you can choose to wait for your energy to regenerate by itself, albeit slowly, over time or you can ask your friends for some free food that restores energy. If both options are not suitable for you, you might then want to consider buying energy-laden foodstuff using diamonds (premium cash).
Hidden object scenes in Hotel Enigma are all time-based and you are given a maximum of 5 minutes to find all the items on the list. Thankfully though, the game starts off really easy, perhaps a tad bit too easy for a hidden object veterans, as it only requires you to find around 3 items per scene. However, as you level up the skill level for a certain room via replaying, more items will be listed for you to find. You can also explore a room with your friends – you can choose who to bring along for the adventure – and you’ll receive special bonuses too!
There are plenty of game modes for each of these hidden object locations in Hotel Enigma, namely day mode, night mode, silhouette mode and many more! Day mode is basically your normal text-based mode, while silhouette mode provides you with a list of shadows of the items you’ll need to find in the room. Night mode will darkened the entire room instead. You will only get a narrow beam of light to guide you as you try to find the items listed as fast as you can.
If you think the game modes in this game is child’s play, wait until you encounter your first disaster! There are generally 3 types of disasters – frost, flood and fire disasters. Each of these disasters will increase the cost and difficulty of afflicted scenes. To get rid of those disasters, you can either play the room where the disaster originated from and successfully clear it, or you can purchase heaters, sponges and fire extinguishers to clear off the frost, flood and fire disasters respectively.
From each scene, you’ll gain experience points which you’ll need to level up and unlock new scenes (after paying a certain amount of in-game cash, of course), as well as some coins. Sometimes, you’ll also get collectibles. Complete the various collections available in Hotel Enigma to earn fabulous rewards, such as free boosters.
If you somehow are unable to find an item or two on your list, don’t panic just yet! Hotel Enigma provides plenty of helpful boosters that you can use. The simplest of them all is the free clue. You can use it, for free obviously, to find one of the items on the list, but the item has a long cooldown period which can be affect how fast you can complete a scene. The other boosters, which can be bought at the in-game store, include bells, projectors, vacuum cleaners, repeaters and dusters. Bells are used to find one of the items on the list (no cooldown for this booster) while projectors will turn on the lights in night mode for a limited amount of time. Vacuum cleaners instantly remove all items or silhouettes from the list, effectively ensuring that you’ll pass through the scene with flying colors. Repeaters, on the other hand, add some extra time to the time allotted to explore the room. Lastly, dusters will illuminate an item that is on your list when you hover your mouse cursor over the item in the scene.
In addition to scenes, you can also trade with the various mysterious and masked hotel attendants for materials that you’ll need to complete collections. These masked men and women only want specific items and these items can be obtained either from scenes, if you’re very lucky, or by buying them from the store. Interestingly, Hotel Enigma even offers special villain event (you’ll need to be at least level 8). In these events, you can fight various villains, like Gregorio Kingpini, Arty Morri and Takesi Oda, after you’ve collected the necessary weapons, and, once they’re disposed of, explore their rooms.
At the store, you can also purchase boosts for in-game cash or premium currency like the Silver Ertsgamma Star that increases your energy regeneration rate by 80%, or the Silver Badge of Atlantis, which increases the chance of finding a collection item by 15%. There is even a Silver Yin Yang brooch that you can buy to increase the experience gained from exploring rooms by 15%. All of these items will only be in effect for 30 minutes.
If you like to meet the community of Hotel Enigma, then you can just head on over to the game’s Facebook fan page. The page has around 50 thousand likes and it is pretty active. If you need to add friends so you can gift each other energy, this is the best place to find some. The players are very friendly too and if you need a hand with something in the game, they will be more than willing to help!
The graphics in Hotel Enigma is very beautifully drawn and rendered. The scenes are so well designed that some hidden objects can be rather hard to find, since everything blends in so nicely together. Sound-wise, the music provided at the room selection screen is pretty casual with a tinge of mystery in it. However, while you’re in a scene, the music changes into something that sounds a lot more foreboding instead.
In short, Hotel Enigma is a fun and engaging hidden object game that contains plenty of rooms to explore and loads of mysterious events to investigate! Search the many rooms in the hotel in various game modes in an attempt to track the missing hotel guest down. If you need help, the game provides a range of helpful boosts that you can buy and use. Interact with the mysteriously masked hotel staff and trade with them for vital items that you need to complete your collections. Fight with any villains you’ve encountered with specific weapons and search their room after they have been defeated! Sounds just like the mystery adventure that you’ve been looking for? Well, try Hotel Enigma today then!
