Gameplay

To start, the game immediately throws you into your very first level without as much as a tutorial. Thankfully, if you’re a bubble-shooting vet, you will feel right at home real quick. For newbies though, you guys may need a tad bit more time but you’ll eventually get how the game works.

The first thing you may notice about this game is that Bubble Quest 2 does not provide a bubble shooter, a bubble-shooting cannon or anything like that. Instead, you have a young girl throwing the bubbles for you! Who that young girl is? Well, the game doesn’t explain and we could probably and safely assume that the girl is the ‘mascot’ of games developed by ACROBATIKFUTURE, LDA, since she appears in their other games as well.

Let’s get back to the game at hand, shall we? In this game, you’ll need to match up 3 or more bubbles of the same colors in order to collect them. However, unlike other bubble-shooters, Bubble Quest 2 emphasizes a lot on getting combos. How? By chaining up your matches, of course! This means that every bubble your girl throws should complete a match and this can be a pretty tall order in quite a few of the levels in the game. Thus, as you’ll soon realize, you’ll learn the importance of being able to pull off trickier shots.

By bouncing your bubbles against the walls, you can hit the sides of the bubble formation, making it much easier to bring down whole chunks of bubbles without the hassle of taking out the bubbles in front! This will also ensure that your combo is kept running, provided that you hit your intended spot, of course – trying to bent a shot can be so tricky sometimes! Furthermore, if the bubble in your girl’s hands is not the color you need, you can change it for the next bubble by clicking on the queued bubble at the bottom of the screen, right next to your life crystals.

By getting combos, you’ll be rewarded with floating multipliers of varying values. However, as aforementioned, you’ll need to keep up the combo and don’t break it or the multipliers will go away. Moreover, by getting more and more matches chained up, random bubbles on your screen will be turned into special bubbles that can be triggered or activated by hitting them with a bubble of any color. The color doesn’t really matter, what’s important is that you must hit the special bubble!

The game objectives in Bubble Quest 2 vary from time to time, keeping the gameplay fresh and exciting! Some of the more common level goals include dropping all crystals or weeds required as well as getting rid of the jumping spiders. You are given limited number of bubbles per level, hence, you should plan out your moves as best as you can before shooting. If you somehow have any leftover bubbles at the end of a level, these bubbles will then be turned into bonus coins, which are subjected to the multiplier as well!

There are also obstacles that you may encounter in Bubble Quest 2 that made the game so much more interesting and challenging. They include smooth round stones, jumping spiders and weeds. Weeds and smooth round stones are the same – you cannot match them but you can drop them. However, jumping spiders are a very interesting challenge in this game. Your objective is to get rid of the spiders by collecting the bubbles they are clinging to or to drop them to the bottom of the board. This may seem easy and all, but the spiders will jump to switch places with every move you make! This definitely made the spiders so much harder to get rid of!

Despite all the bonus scores that you can get from getting combos, it’s pretty hard to get 3 stars for each level in this game. You’ll definitely need to keep your multipliers up at all times and ensure that you drop enough chunks of bubbles to hit them. Furthermore, if you failed any level, you will lose a life. You have a maximum of 5 lives but don’t worry as your in-game lives will regenerate itself over time.

If there are levels that are too difficult for you, fear not – Bubble Quest 2 provides an interesting choice of power-ups for you to use! You’ll unlock these power-ups as you play the game (and reached certain levels). Once unlocked, the power-up is automatically charged depending on the score you earned in a level. After reaching 100%, the power-up will be available to you for free! If this is too troublesome for you, you could also purchase these power-ups using in-game money that you’ve obtained from playing games.

These power-ups include fireball, lightning, colors blender, precision and stardust. Fireball allows you to blast your way through bubbles while lightning expands to a sphere and hit all bubbles around it instead! Colors blender changes colors of all the bubbles on the board – they doesn’t have to be to the same color. On the other hand, precision extends your aiming crosshair, showing you where your bounces will land. Lastly, when used, the stardust will explode into cutting rays in all directions and its bright lances of light cuts through bubbles around its radius.

Graphics/ Sound

The brightly-colored graphics in Bubble Quest 2 is amazing and has a very unique style. Its background is very simplistic, yet the details in the objects in the background as well as for the bubbles are simply awesome. In terms of sound, since the game starts off with the desert scene, you are treated to a very catchy Egyptian-themed music. The music for when you’re playing a level is different although it is equally as soothing and pleasant to listen to as the music at the level selection menu. However, if you find that the music is a bit loud, do adjust your headphone or speaker volume accordingly!

Conclusion

In short, Bubble Quest 2 is a very addictive and exciting bubble-shooting puzzle game with an interesting range of obstacles to challenge you. It offers levels after levels of brain-teasing games that will require you to have excellent chain-matching and bubble-bouncing skills, a good eye and very good aim. If there are any difficult levels that got you stumped, you could also use the power-ups provided!
