Summary

Winter is coming! However, the bees are not giving any of their honey to Buggle! Buggle the bear needs your help to go up against the aggressive bees to stock up honey for the bitter winter. Using your trusty bubble cannon, you’ll shoot the honey-containing bubbles down to collect the honey as well as any bees that stand in your way! Plotline

Winter is coming and a particularly honey-loving bear (does that bring to mind Winnie the Pooh? Sure, it does!) decides to stock up on honey to get through the winter. He went to his favorite big tree in the forest knowing that the honey in bees nest at the very top of the tree has the best honey. However, the bees are not happy that Buggle is around. They are ready to go all out to protect their nest and their queen. Can you help Buggle fight the bees to get the honey he needs?

Gameplay

The controls in Buggle are very simple – you will be using your mouse to aim and by clicking, you will shoot bubbles from your cannon. Simply shooting bubbles all over the place won’t help you win the game though. You’ll need to match 3 or more bubbles of the same color to pop them.

There are also jars filled with delicious golden honey at the bottom, with the middle jar awarding 1000 bonus points, the jars on both the right and left side of the middle jar awarding 500 points each and the outermost jars giving 250 points each. If you can get 5 bubble pops in a row, the lowest point jars (the 250 ones) at the bottom of the screen will be closed to help boost your score. Another subsequent 5 more pops will result in the closing of the second lowest point jars, the 500 ones.

Although you can bounce the bubbles off from the wall to hit the side bubbles, trying to get a nice chain of combos can still be pretty hard in Buggle though. This is due to the fact that you’re not allowed to swap the bubble in your cannon with the bubble that Buggle the bear is holding for you! If you break your combo, the jars are immediately reopened.

Furthermore, the number of remaining bubbles is shown at the base of the cannon. If you manage to have any leftover bubbles after completing a game, the remaining bubbles will be released from the cannon like fireworks! These bubbles will automatically be popped to earn you some sweet bonus points.

The game objectives in Buggle are as simple as its controls. What you need to do for normal levels is to drop the bubble containing the wasps. However, once you reach level 10, you’ll need to drop the queen bubble and all of the wasp bubbles to complete the level. To beat the game, you’ll need to get at least 1 star and the game does get progressively harder for you to earn 3 stars after level 6. If you get enough stars, you can unlock new content and move on to the new stages.

If you think it’s not challenging enough, you needn’t to worry! Buggle inserts in quite a number of unique obstacle bubbles that will definitely ramp up the difficulty of the game! One such obstacle bubbles include the bee bubbles. If you pop and released the bee inside it, the bee will hover around and get in your line of fire for the next 3 hits. If you hit the bee with your bubble, it will knock down your bubble and eliminate it. It’s best to just drop the bee bubble without popping it. There is also another special obstacle bubble called the rhino bubble – a bubble that contains a rhino beetle inside it. When you accidentally popped it, the rhino beetle will block your highest value center jar for 7 turns. It’ll drastically reduce your score for that game!

If failed to complete the objectives in a level, you will lose a life. Buggle provides 5 lives maximum to each of its players, though if you lose any lives, you can easily regain the lives over time. If you cannot wait, you can always spend some real money to buy more!

Prefer to avoid failing a level? Easy! You can purchase power-ups, which require real money, as well as magic bubbles, which use in-game money, to help you complete the tougher levels in the game! Some examples for power-ups include infinite guideline, whereby you will be given a permanent guideline for your cannon to enable easy aim tracking, unlock extra slot for boosters, which will add an additional slot to the default 2 slots for you to equip the power-ups you want to use, and insect repellent, that will remove all insects that are freed from their respective bubbles from your board. You can buy 1 bubble with the color of your choice using real money as well!

For magic bubbles, there are peg bubbles whereby 6 wooden pegs appear over the honey jars and one bounce on the peg is worth 150 points. The peg will disappear after 12 bounces. The bomb bubbles, on the other hand, will explode on impact and pops surrounding regular bubbles. There is even a rainbow bubble which counts as any of the regular colored bubbles and pops regular bubble clusters. It only works on regular bubbles though.

Graphics/ Sound

The 2D graphics in Buggle are cheerful and brightly colored. Although it may not have absolutely crisp and high definition graphics, whatever the game has is good enough for a simple browser-based casual game. The music, on the other hand, contains a catchy and upbeat tune that may even get you dancing to the beat… or at least nodding along with it. The sound in this game has variety too, for instance, the music in the game and the music at the map interface are different!

Conclusion

All in all, Buggle is a very fun and challenging bubble shooter game, whereby you have to match bubbles up in order to collect the honey that is contained within in the honey jars at the bottom of the screen. There are plenty of obstacle bubbles, such as bee bubbles or rhino bubbles that you’ll need to avoid shoot at. There is even a huge range of useful power-ups and magic bubbles that you can buy and use to complete the harder levels.
