Summary

Miniland Adventure is a unique sandbox-based survival adventure game that’s similar to other titles in the genre like Don’t Starve, Core Keeper, and more. There is plenty to do here, from chopping down trees, crafting tools, breeding animals, fighting enemies that spawned at night, and even going underground to mine for precious gems and ores. Unlike other similar titles, however, the game will have you expand the world you survive in yourself by placing biome tiles.

Gameplay

If you’ve played any survival-style adventure games before, like Don’t Starve, Core Keeper, and others, you should feel right at home here in Miniland Adventure. In this game, there are plenty of things to do right from the get-go, from crafting your very first set of stone tools to building a home to call your own that will also serve as a nifty protection against enemies that will eventually spawn at night starting from Day 4.

There are lots of resources that you can gather from the environment and eventually, turn into more useful items like converting wool into balls of wool, that can subsequently be made into useful ropes. There’s also the underground where you can dig your way to getting various precious ores and gems that you can then use to upgrade your tools. Note that tools have durability in this game, so you’re expected to replace them quite often as they wear out.

Although you can craft most of the basic stuff directly via your inventory, many of the more advanced crafts require certain crafting stations, such as furnaces and the carpenter’s table, that can be produced at the worktable. This also includes non-tool items like foodstuff, consumables, and furniture, including chests, lamps, and beds.

As a survival game, you’ll need to make sure that your character is well-fed and hydrated as you go about exploring and exploiting the world for its resources. Food can come from two main sources – the farm (or, in the case of wild crops, the environment) or from animals you’ve butchered. Animals will spawn randomly depending on the biome you get, and typically, you’ll start with a small herd. You can easily breed them by feeding them their favorite food/crop, and even use them as mounts if you have a saddle crafted.

Farming is a pretty simple affair in this game. Since there is technically no difference between a crop and a seed here, you can simply plant the crops you’ve obtained from the wild and grow it within your home compound. Make sure you water it daily, though, or it won’t grow! There’s also a fertilizer that you can craft from bones dropped from defeated skeletons (more on that later) that you can use to greatly speed up the growth times of your crops.

The game starts you off easy, with the first four days of the game being free of enemies that can harm you, but by the time nightfall rolls around on Day 4, enemies, such as skeletons, snowmen, and harpies (depending on the biome), will be spawned in the world and they will actively seek you out if they spot you. This is where it’s best to have a home built, since enemies don’t attack structures you’ve built, and a bed where you can “sleep” away the night.

At one point, you’ll also encounter friendly goblins whom you could build houses for. By populating each home with items they like, you can raise their Satisfaction level to a point where you’ll unlock more trading options. Yes, the goblins you can house in this game functions as some sort of trader where they will buy and sell certain items. Each goblin has a different list of items they trade so it’s a good idea to house as many of them as you can.

One of the major highlights of Miniland Adventure is the fact that you don’t get a premade or even procedurally-generated world to exploit and explore… in this game, you literally build and expand your own world, both above ground and under it, day by day.

You see, by surviving a day in this game, you’ll get biome tiles that you can then connect to the starting tiles you have. There are two kinds of biome tiles you’ll get – the game will give you 4 tiles from a random biome, and you’ll also get to choose another biome or even the same one and get another 4 tiles from the game. You’re basically assembling the world while you play, one tile at a time!

Graphics/ Sound

Miniland Adventure features pixel art that looks both adorable and vibrant that fans of pixel games would greatly appreciate and enjoy. The variety of colors you can customize your furniture within this game is amazing as well. In terms of sound, the game features a selection of soundtrack that is interspersed with the simple, ambiance sounds of nature.

Conclusion

Miniland Adventure adds an innovative twist to a typical survival game, giving avid players of the genre something new to experience and enjoy. The variety of biomes available here is astounding, along with the crafting options, the optional goblin-housing quests, and an interesting underground world to explore, making the game as addictive as it is fun to play.
