Summary
Step into the shoes of a mighty god and join the battle in a fun and tactical CCG full of fun characters and a huge range of cards. Blend all the moments of a card game you love with the deployment tactics of a tower defense game in the amazing world of Dofus and Wakfu.
Plotline
The God Ecaflip is a bit bored, and being the chance taker that he is he created a game for the others of the pantheon to play. Where they can do battle, without breaking the rules on not fighting each other.
And so he invited the gods to play, using armies and their mighty magics to battle in safe environments that won’t destroy their worlds. Each of the gods brings their own unique perspective to the game and they are safe to battle, and of course they are all out to win.
Gameplay
When you first log into the game you are entered into a mini tournament between the gods where you play Iop. You are given a basic deck and sent off to what are essentially practice matches. Here the gameplay is explained, and you can see how the basic rules work, there are also cards for your deck as rewards.
Once you pass this you are then into the game proper and have a huge range of things to do. You can begin to play with Iop more and create your own decks. There are also many more gods to unlock, each with a unique deck and playstyle. To open then up you simply need to use an existing deck and go into a practice game, once you win you open up a basic deck for that character.
When you have your deck you are ready to go play. The aim of each game is to capture 2 of your enemies Dofus. There are 5 lanes, with 2 fake Dofus and 3 real ones. Each lane is 8 squares long and you drop minions into each lane. As a minion moves forward it will attack any enemy in its way. Once it reaches the Dofus it will then attack that until it is destroyed.
The placement of your minions can be very important, as they can be used aggressively or defensively. There are quite a lot of tactics involved in each game and the minions you place also have their own special effects and abilities which can come into play.
Each minion has 3 basic stats, Attack (AT), Armor (AR) and Movement (MP). When creatures fight they hit each other at the same time using their AT against the AR of their opponent. Once you run out of AR that minion will clear from the board and go into your discard pile. Many creatures have special abilities that also affect the board and this is where there is a lot of depth to the game.
There are currently 8 Gods available: Iop, Ecaflip, Cra, Eniripsa, Sacrier, Sadida, Sram and Xelor. Each of these has a set of cards attuned for only that deck, as well as all of the neutral minions that you have collected. You can have 4 decks for each character, so you can play different archetypes within any of them.
You begin play with a set of basic cards for each God and a set of neutral cards (which are all minions) and there are several ways for you to increase your collection of cards. The simplest way is to buy the decks for Krosma, the coin currency that you can collect throughout the game. There is also the option to buy Krosma for real money, which you can then convert into packs of cards.
There are 3 levels of pack: Bronze, Silver and Gold each with 5 cards. The higher the rating of the pack the higher the rare card you will receive. As normal there are different strengths of card from Common to Infinite. The packs are more expensive the higher the rating you go. You will also receive packs for quests that you complete.
There are a couple of different places for you to earn packs through quests. Each day Ecaflip will give you a challenge to complete, such as win a certain number of games or play expensive minions. Once you complete these he will reward you with one of several different things. Outside of his quests there are also Offerings for you to complete, these also have rewards and are not given on a daily basis but are available from the start and can be quite fun to complete.
One final method of collecting cards is to complete Dungeons. These cost you a few Krosma to play and when you win a level you unlock a card. Each level has 10 cards to unlock and the only way to do so is by completing the dungeon. The 10th card is an infinite so playing them is worth it. They are a challenge though, going in with a basic deck would be a struggle it is worth having a few cards before you go in. Though if you have the Krosma you can buy all of the cards for a certain amount dependent on the level of the dungeon.
If you find you have too many copies of a card from your packs or cards you no longer want you can recycle them into Dofus Fragments that can then be spent on making a specific card that you want. This is a nice way of targeting cards, and you can earn Fragments in many different places as well as from destroying cards.
You can choose to play either casual games or ranked games against other player opponents. Each of these games will reward you with Kromas and the higher your rank the greater the rewards and prestige available to you. If you have a new deck you can also go into the practice mode to test it out too.
Community
Although Krosmaga is a new game, it is set among two of the most popular MMO games of recent times Dofus and Wakfu and has attracted fans to its banner. With so many players joining early there has been a great reception for the game and the pre releases and beta also drew a lot of attention.
With its set of forums and many dedicate pages there are lots of places for you to get in touch with other players and learn about the game. There is a very welcoming feeling surrounding the whole community created by Ankama Games and this translates into all of their creations. Throw in the ability to make and add friends inside of the game and play friendly matches you have a great and developing community to enter and enjoy.
Graphics/Sound
As you would expect from a game by one of the world's foremost developers the game looks pretty good to play. Using the very unique styling and characters from the other games you are immersed into a world you know. The creatures and gods look cute and are portrayed in an anime style.
The controls are simple, though the targeting for spells and some abilities could be a little bit clearer. Despite that there is a huge amount of quality presented to you when you open the game and it has a nice simple soundtrack. Each of the characters has a unique vocal set and this adds a nice bit of depth to an already pretty game.
Conclusion
With a mix of styles blended seamlessly there is a unique flavor to this game that can not be ignored or denied. Add in the amazing world you play in, a huge amount of depth and the promised additional gods there is a lot to play for.
If you are a casual or competitive player there is something for you here, with rewards for all styles of play you can find and build your collection easily. Overall there is a lot of fun to be found, and as a new game there is also a huge future for you to get involved in and to see the development as it unfolds. The whole combination is intriguing and there is a huge amount of great things here for you to enjoy.
