Plotline

Your uncle has recently passed away and you, being next in line to inherit the family’s catering business, has finally returned to your home town of Crystal Falls. Your business and perhaps even life is now at stake! Piece together the clues and attempt to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of Liselle as well as a series of threats that has plagued the people in the suburbia through gossips and idle chatter. Hopefully, you’ll be able to find the culprit before it’s too late!

Gameplay

To start, you’ll first need to create your avatar. You can opt for the randomly generated default and customize your avatar’s appearance later or you could just get it over with before you start the game. It works either way. However, if you do choose to customize your avatar first, you’ll notice the lack of choices you are given. This is mainly because you are only shown items that are free for you to use. Only once you’re in the game proper will you unlock access to other articles of clothing that will require game cash or premium rubies to buy.

Furthermore, unlike the first game, Suburbia 2 feels more like a farm simulation game, although technically there is no farm, rather than life simulation game. As opposed to keeping your character happy and healthy, you’ll be managing your very own catering business which basically include the routine of regularly harvesting crops or fruits, ordering ingredients, preparing the required baked goods, and filling up the orders that you get on the orderboard to earn some game cash.

You’ll begin with only 2 apple trees, but as you play on, you’ll gradually unlock new crops like sugar beets as well as more trees. You can also speed up your harvest with special fertilizers called GroMagic. GroMagic cannot be bought – you can only get it by accepting it as gifts from your neighbors, so be sure to add more friends!

In addition to the raw crops you get, you’ll also need other ingredients which you can obtain by placing an order, which will cost you some cash, at the Ingredients Stand. The ingredients you ordered may take a while to arrive, though you can always speed it up using rubies. Once you’ve got everything you need, you can then start baking some delicious pastries, pies and bread from the comfort of your kitchen.

The baking process is fairly simple as long as you’ve got everything you need, and this includes the tools. There are many different types of kitchen appliances that you’ll need and you’ll need to buy them first from the Suburbia Mall. Each appliance will allow you to queue up 2 baking tasks but you can unlock more slots by spending rubies. Need more rubies? Well, you can earn some for free by completing offers or you can simply spend real money to buy some.

Storage is another important aspect in this game because you’ll be literally caught in a gridlock if both your Fridge, which stores raw ingredients, and Pantry, which stores baked goods, are filled, and you don’t have the required tools to expand the storage space of either one! Thankfully, you can still try to sell off your stored items and free up some space, provided that there are orders that you can fill on your orderboard. Once you reach level 6, you can even sell your goods to your neighbors and other players at the Market Stand.

The money you’ve earned can then be used to purchase new decoration for both the interior and exterior of your business’ headquarters. You can even buy new rooms, purchase surrounding plots of land and expand your HQ. Of course, you’ll still have to clear the land your buy from shrubs, patches of wild grasses, wild trees, and piles of stones using specific tools before you can truly get started on the landscaping for your place.

As you advance in the game, you’ll eventually unlock the Parking Lot where you’ll then be put in charge of managing Food Trucks (level 15) as well as the Gazebo that will allow you to organize wild parties (Level 20). You’ll get a special currency, gold, from doing these activities and the gold you have can be spent some rare items at the Mall.

What I like the best about Suburbia 2 is the lack of energy or stamina restrictions. So basically, this means that you can play the game for as long as you like! That said, the baking duration can be rather lengthy – 6 hours for an apple pie? Oh, come on! – and the game also has some really long waiting times that you cannot skip when it comes to competing quests. So, if you plan on going through the game quickly, well, that might not be possible. This is actually a game best played from time to time – around once per day, maybe.

Community

Having a solid group of neighbors that you can rely on can be incredibly important in Suburbia 2. This is mainly because you can only get GroMagic from your friends. You can even receive and donate food items. Interestingly, there is a referral system that you can use to invite friends to join you in the game and you’ll get a nice gift for every milestone you reach.

Graphics/ Sound

The graphics in Suburbia 2 looks a lot more polished than in the first game and that’s a good thing. The colors used here are brighter too. In terms of sound, the game does have a nice ambiance but the background music used is just a bit too short and is too heavily looped. This makes listening to the music quite annoying rather quickly.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, Suburbia 2 has a very intriguing, mystery-filled storyline that rivals that of the original game and a gameplay that’s quite engaging, but the rather ridiculous waiting times in this game may put a lot of players off. If you plan on giving this game a try, we would highly recommend playing it in small doses rather than spending hours on it at a stretch. That way, you won’t feel as frustrated about the waiting duration, and will actually be able to enjoy the game’s story.
