Who are they?
Established in Beijing, China, back in 2008, Perfect World Entertainment is a now leading North American online games publisher specializing in immersive free-to-play MMO games. The company has a track record of success, having doubled revenues each of its first three years, and continues to grow at a steady pace.
Perfect World Entertainment currently has around 340 talented employees scattered across their headquarters in Redwood Shores and also their Cryptic development studio in Los Gatos in California. In addition to their employees, they have also worked closely with Runic Games, developer of the popular dungeon-crawler game Torchlight series.
Holding fast to the 5 core values of the company, Perfect World Entertainment is devoted to creating the highest quality gaming experiences for tens of millions of players spread across the many games on their portfolio. Let’s find out more about what they do and how they managed to attain such success!

What do they do?
Perfect World Entertainment currently maintains more than 21 online games of varying MMO genres. In fact, the company specializes in developing and publishing installation-based MMO games, in particular MMORPGs, though they do have a few MMO shooters, MMO strategy games and MOBA.
For MMORPGs, they publishes the Chinese-inspired Swordsman, whereby you’ll get to play as an up-and-coming kung fu prodigy. By aligning yourself to 1 of the 10 greatest martial arts schools of that era, you’re set on your way to be the ultimate kung fu master and save the turmoil-rife Jianghu from other nefarious martial arts schools. The engaging plot which is filled with plot-twists and high action combat are some of the main features that made the game so popular.
They have also worked with Cryptic Studios to publish Neverwinter, the free, action MMORPG based on the acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons fantasy roleplaying game. In this game, you’ll get to play the role of a treasure hunter and immersive yourself in a rugged world filled with forgotten secrets and lost treasure. The game’s action-based combat will definitely wow you – it’s incredibly fluid and very responsive. Another selling point for Neverwinter is definitely its sandbox aspect, which allows you to be able to create your own adventures and also experience worlds created by other people.
In addition to MMORPGs, Perfect World Entertainment has also published the highly popular and acclaimed MMO shooter game, Blacklight: Retribution. Unlike other cookie-cutter shooter games, this game features an advanced hyper reality visor, or in short HRV, which enables players to see opponents, teammates, Weapon Depots and Hardsuit weak points through walls for a limited time and at the cost of all offensive capability. The game also offers the unique hardsuits for players to “equip” and use. These hardsuits are the ultimate killing machine and are immensely difficult to take down even with heavy weapons and the help from the visors. Due to all these features, it’s not surprising that Blacklight: Retribution stands out from the other MMO shooters which set it on its path to its current fame and popularity. This game is rather popular among the esports community as well ever since it entered the esport scene early last year. There have been several Blacklight: Retribution ESL tournaments held, though the tourneys do not award cash prizes – they give out premiums instead.
Furthermore, Perfect World Entertainment offers a range of MMO strategy games, such as the medieval-themed Stronghold Kingdoms, simulation games like the space-themed Star Trek Online, and even MOBA games such as Prime World. They also provides some pay-to-play games, such as the renowned dungeon-crawler franchise, Torchlight.

Perfect World Entertainment is certainly a formidable games publishing company that has seen a spurt of growth as of late. One of the main reasons for their impressive success is definitely the diverse choice of MMO games they have on offer. In addition to MMORPGs like Elsword, Champions Online and Royal Quest, they have plenty of other interesting MMOs such as the sci-fi-themed Star Conflict, the “Grand Theft Auto”-like APB Reloaded, Blacklight: Retribution and many more!
Another factor that attributes to their success is definitely their 5 core values – Think Differently; Grow Personally; Evolve Gameplay; Connect Gamers; and last but not least, Work hard, Play Hard. Perfect World Entertainment values their employees and it’s obvious that their employees give their all in return to the company. It’s a win-win situation for both sides... perhaps symbiotic even... and both the employees and the company can grow together. Of course, the company places a strong emphasis on their players as well. Feedbacks and criticisms are always welcomed and they do actually act on some of the good ones. For a company as big as Perfect World Entertainment, it’s good to see that they often hear their players out.
What does the future hold?
They currently have no officially released plans in place for adding any new games to their portfolio, however, the company does have plenty of events lined up for many of their current, ongoing games, such as the Crystalline Entity Event for Star Trek Online and the August Login Event for Swordsman.
