Fortnite Battle Royale's New Map: An Overview and ReviewFeb 4, 2018 | 1 Votes by Mikhail 10 rate Epic Games just released its biggest Fortnite patch to date. The existing map has been improved with new locations and hotspots, promising a fresh battle royale experience.
Epic Games recently released a patch that improved the Fortnite experience. These include an improved Scope Assault Rifle, the ability to use voice chat on lobbies, and other bug repairs. The most notable addition though, are the numerous additions to the map. The version prior to the patch looked like this:
The west side looks a little barren and empty, with only three locations and fewer places to loot compared to the eastern side. However, that changed after the patch. The new map looks like this:
Noticeably, five more locations were added, all on the west side of the map. Let’s take a quick look at each of them:
The largest addition is a city called the Tilted Towers, located just south of Loot Lake. As of today, we estimate that at least 50% of the players drop on the spot. If you want to get into a fight early, it’s the best place to be in. The location features several buildings, and some of which are at least six stories tall. It’s also filled with chests and loot due to its sheer size.
However, it is important to note that there are existing bugs in the area. The most pronounced would be the lack of vertical sound. For example, if you’re in a tall building, you wouldn’t know if the footsteps are above you or right next to you. Nevertheless, this location is the place you would really want to explore.
Haunted Hills is located west of Pleasant Park, and it is a graveyard complete with mausoleums and even a ruined church. Unfortunately though, it isn’t the best place to land considering that it barely has any chests and loot. With that said, it’s an ok place to land if you’re playing solo, but if you’re with a squad, it’s best to pick someplace else.
The old junkyard on the northwest side of the map has been expanded and turned into a larger, fully-functioning one. It is a labyrinth of cars flattened like cakes for scrap complete with a factory. There is an exploit in it though: players can enter a crane, which is somehow not a solid object, hide, and shoot players that pass by. It is something the developers are currently working day and night to fix. If you want to take the risk though, it’s the place to be if you want to mine some metal.
Found on the westernmost side of the map, Snobby Shores is for the snobby rich. The place is made up of four houses which seem like they were owned by rich people. After all, each house has its own CCTV system and a large garden. One even has its own swimming pool. It is chock-full of loot with numerous chests. If you’re dropping with a squad, each member can choose a house of his own!
The last spot added is Shift Shafts which is essentially an underground mine. It’s the perfect place to set up an ambush and great for close-quarters shotgun battles. Albeit small, it has a labyrinth of tunnels and shacks which are host to ammo boxes and loot chests. It is located directly south of Tilted Towers.
Other smaller and interesting details and hotspots
The patch also marked the debut of biomes. Various locations around the map are themed, each with different grass colors and trees. For example, the trees of the west side of the map appear to be moving, while the ones in Moisty Mire are darker and creepier. Epic also added several new locations on the map which include:
- A larger factory nearly identical to the one south of Dusty Depot. It is located just north of Flush Factory. Northwest of this area, there’s a house and a barn, while the small, stage-like stand was replaced by a larger one.
- A new building west of Anarchy Aces.
- A gas station and house southeast of Retail Row
- A small indoor soccer/football stadium west of Tilted Towers. It plays some sort of celebratory tune when you score a goal
Overall, the new Fortnite Battle Royale map is a testament to how good and dedicated the developers at Epic Games are. The additions are significant, slightly changing the way the game is played. Apart from the elements related to the map, there are also new skins and items on the premium store, including a discounted 10-tier Battle Pass boost. New dances and gestures are also part of the new lineup with more to look forward to as the season progresses.
We look into the future of Fortnite with optimism, and it’s safe to say that if a new map is in the works, it will be as amazing as this one. So, which locations are you raring to drop into? Give the game a shot and explore each!
