Are you looking for a hidden object game that makes you feel like a hero while solving clues? Haunted Manor: Painted Beauties Collection doesn’t end with finding objects. This mesmerizing game will take you on an adventure where you race against time to save helpless young women trapped in a dark and mysterious manor.
Stephan Black, a painter who made a pact with Death to spare his life in exchange for the lives of others, presents himself to young women and offers to paint their portrait. Little do these poor damsels know that having the treacherous Stephan paint them will trap them into his dark paintings, never to escape. In Haunted Manor: Painted Beauties Collection, it’s up to you to find clues and solve riddles to free yourself and the other women that Stephan has captured in his dark and deadly mansion.
Haunted Manor: Painted Beauties Collection is an adventure hidden object game. Being so, the game opens with a premise. A painter has trapped several women in his paintings and you need to use the clues and get the necessary tools to free them. This makes the game more immersive and interactive than the traditional and straightforward hidden object games.
There’s a short video to introduce you to the game’s storyline. After which, you’ll be oriented to Haunted Manor’s game environment with a brief tutorial. You’ll learn how to navigate the map, use the notebook to check your tasks and recognize clues and other collectible objects along the path. When the tutorial ends, you can manage on your own by using the hint button. This is represented by a rather misplaced cheerful cherub on the bottom-right portion of the screen. A sleeping cherub means hints are recharging.
To find objects and tools to collect, you can hover your mouse over the scene. When the mouse turns into a magnifying glass, it means you can interact with that portion. Clicking on these portions further magnify the area and you can either get objects or do something to that object using the tools and materials you have in your inventory. You can also mover over items within a magnified area and you’ll notice your mouse pointer turn into a hand. This means you can grab the item by clicking on it. A pop up window will appear telling you what item you found (although it won’t tell you what its’ for).
Remember that all the objects you find along your path all have a purpose, and while they may not seem relevant at the time you found them, they will have their use when the time comes.
If you get stuck, you can always use the Hint button. Don’t worry about running out of hints, you can use quite a few at a time, and it recharges pretty quickly. You can also click on the Notebook on the top-right corner and go to Tasks. Another button to check your tasks is easily accessible on the bottom-left corner of the screen. You don’t have to complete a task to go on the next, so you can have more than one task on your list, and it’s up to you which one you can complete depending on your progress in collecting objects and clues.
To go in and out of the manor and its surroundings, hover the mouse over doors and pathways and wait for the large, ornate arrow to appear. You can also click on the Map to navigate Stephan’s estate. If, for example, you found an object but you don’t know (or can’t remember) where to go to use it, you can click on the Hint button while in a certain location and it will point you to where you should go next. You may need to press Hint several times to know the final location where the object might be used.
This game uses both word lists and silhouettes for giving clues for finding the hidden objects. A word written in green means these items are hidden under another item. Mouse over the entire scene and wait for your cursor to turn into a hand, then click on whatever it will reveal the object written in green.
Most objects are pretty straightforward, but some objects can be confusing to find. For instance, a Taurus can be an animal or a Zodiac sign, so bare these things in mind when you read word list-type of clues. The silhouette method, on the other hand, might be easier to understand, but it doesn’t mean it’s easier to find. Again, you can use the Hint button if you’re truly stuck.
When you solve some clues or click on some objects within a scene, you’ll open a puzzle that you can solve to get another clue or another object to help you accomplish a task. These mini games can be a variety of puzzles with different rules to play. To help you with the puzzle rules, click on the question mark icon to your right. The rules for solving the puzzle will be shown on the top of the screen. There is an option to skip the puzzle after a few seconds. To do this, click the Skip button to your left. Clicking on the Skip button will immediately bring you to the next screen where you are given your next object or clue.
Haunted Manor: Painted Beauties Collection is the third in a series of Haunted Manor adventure hidden object games released by Big Fish Games. As such, there is a growing community who are fans of the first two series, who are now becoming avid players of this newest addition. You can find more updates and information about the game in Big Fish’s Facebook fan page.
The overall theme of the Haunted Manor series is the creepy factor in all its scenes and storylines. While this game does have some of that element, the average graphics and over-the-top voice acting doesn’t live up to the hype. You might feel annoyed or amused rather than scared. Nevertheless, the still images as well as the animations are decent enough for you to keep playing the game.
Haunted Manor: Painted Beauties Collection has an interesting storyline that is convincing enough for you to want to keep playing. Despite its somewhat cheesy sound effects and the run-of-the-mill graphics, there is enough mystery and pieces of a huge puzzle strewn across the game’s world that you are forced to keep going. It also helps that hints are always there to point you to the right direction, so you won’t expect to get frustrated, even in challenging stages of the game. For anyone who likes a fair challenge beyond just finding hidden objects, then this game is worth your utmost attention.
