Summary

Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past is a very entertaining and addictive hidden objects adventure filled to the brim with plenty of mini-games and an engaging storyline. In this game, you are Eleanor, the princess of a great and prosperous kingdom. The kingdom is in a war with the sinister Elven King. However, one day, the Elven King managed to capture her father and kidnapped her to his place. He wants Eleanor to be his bride in order to secure the release of her father. Like any headstrong princess, Eleanor refused and she tried to find a way to escape and rescue her father. With the help by various allies, will you be able to help Eleanor rescue her father from imprisonment and save the kingdom from the evil Elven King?

Plotline

For many years, a war has raged between your father’s kingdom and that of the Elven King, but now the tide has suddenly turned, and your father has been imprisoned! What’s worse, the Elven King now wants you to be his bride! Time is running out before your wedding. Can you escape the Elven King and free your father? But don’t be too quick to judge, for at the heart of this war lies a dark secret, one that is buried deep within your own past. You must unravel this mystery and unmask the true villain, before it is too late!

Gameplay

After you press “play”, you’ll be prompted to choose one from the 4 different difficulty modes, namely casual, advanced, hard and custom settings. Different settings have a different set of features enabled or disabled. For instance, in casual mode, you’ll see sparkles on active areas as well as areas with hidden object puzzles; there is no wrong selection penalty; black-bar tips are enabled and the skip and hint recharge time is reduced. For custom settings, you can adjust the settings to one that you think is suitable to enough to give you a challenge and yet is not too difficult that you’ll be overly frustrated by it. If you choose hard mode and eventually find it a tad bit too hard, you can easily change the difficulty setting during the game to a much easier mode as well!

To play, you’ll need to know a few of indicators in this game. For instance, when you notice that your cursor is changed into a magnifying glass, this means that you can talk to someone or examine an area. The magnifying glass can appear in the world as well as in hidden object scenes. A hand will appear when you can interact with the world or take an item to use. If the hand appears during a hidden object scene, then you can drag and drop the item to the item that you think it can interact with, while if the hand appears while outside of a scene, the item you picked up will be stored in your inventory instead!

You can also obtain usable items by playing the hidden object scenes provided. In each scene, there are quite a lot of items for you to find and after you’ve found them all, one particular task-related item from the list will be stored in your inventory for your use. Every time you revisit a scene (at most twice), the items you’ll need to find are different though the scene is the same, making each playthrough interesting. You can also decide to skip the hidden object scene by playing 1 out of the 4 mini-games available, but well, Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past is after all a hidden object game in essence, so it’s best to just play through the scenes!

If you have any problems with finding an item, you can easily click on the “hint” button on your right and it will help you to identify one random item on your list. However, this hint is also available outside of hidden object scenes and when you press the “hint” button in that condition, it will help you find areas where interactions are available instead! In addition, you’ll also obtain a phoenix pet earlier on in your adventure, while you are tricked by the Elven King. Use your phoenix pet to destroy dark magical areas on each new location you visit in order to uncover an important area in the location.

The items you’ve collected in your inventory can then be taken out to use on various other interactive items in the world. Your cursor will changed a gears-like form to indicate that you must use an item from your inventory in order to interact with the item in question. Using which item for the interaction can be a real brain-cracker in some other game, but in Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past, this is rather easy to figure out, granted that you may need some help from time to time. They can also be used to interact with other items in the inventory to craft a complete item before you can use them.

There’s also a task list that records what you need to do during your adventure. Most of the time, you’ll need to travel between locations to complete your tasks. To travel, you can move by selecting areas when the navigation cursor appears. You can also teleport by using portals after you’ve obtained the map from the Elven King’s lair.

The most interesting aspect in Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past is its mini-games and extras! The game offers plenty of mini-games, such as completing embroidery with different colored threads, match 2 of the same symbols with the one indicated by the game, mini-mahjong game, and many more! If you encountered any trouble, there’s a “skip” button that can help you to auto-solve the mini-game. However, in order to use that button, you’ll have to wait for it to recharge first!

There are also extras that you can enjoy once you’ve completed the prerequisite of the game. For instance, by collecting tarot cards while you’re exploring the world in-game, you can then use them for fortune-telling in the extras section after you’ve completed the card collection. So, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled while playing the game. Furthermore, after you’ve completed your collections, you can even play match-3 games with them. Awesome, right?

Let’s not forget about achievements as well! In Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past, you can obtain achievement for solving mini-games, hidden object scenes and puzzles and etc. They are not too hard to acquire and you should already have most of them by the time you’ve finished the game!

Community

If you like to meet the community of Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past, then it’ll be more fruitful for you to go to the game’s allocated forum on Big Fish Games’ website, considering that the game does not have a Facebook fan page. They are very friendly and if you need a hand with something in the game, they will be more than willing to help! If you’re the social sort, the forum is the way to go!

Graphics/ Sound

Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past contains very nice hand-drawn graphics. The characters are brilliantly animated too! The game also contains lovely music, but the tone of the music can feel a bit lamenting. After all, this is a dark tale about Princess Eleanor’s father being imprisoned by an evil Elven King. It’s also nice that the music in the game has many varieties.

Conclusion

In short, Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past is a hidden object adventure game that contains more adventure and mini-game puzzles than hidden object scenes. In this game, you’ll need to use the items you’ve found to escape from the hideout of the evil Elven King and find a way to rescue your father from his grasp! Find and collect interactive items to solve puzzles to uncover secrets about the Elven King as to who he was! Save a phoenix from imprisonment and it will help you to remove dark magical areas so it can reveal vital puzzles or clues in a particular location. If you have any trouble with the game, there’s a hint/ skip button that you can use to breeze through the game. Queen’s Tales: Sins of the Past is indeed a very enjoyable and casual game to play. If you’re a fan of hidden object adventures, then this is one game you don’t want to miss out on! Try the demo for free today!
