The kingdom is in jeopardy! The King’s beloved princess has been kidnapped and you, the gnome, has been ordered to find her. Of course, being a gnome, you’ll also need to collect as many socks as you can along the way or you wouldn’t be allowed to return. Can you save the princess from certain eternal imprisonment? Play now and find out!
Geki Yaba Runner is uniquely different from any other puzzle runner games you might have played before. Before you start, the game already provides you with various options to choose from in order to fit the game to you. One of such option includes the choice of playing the game in the left-handed or right-handed mode. Lefties would rejoice at having this feature, I’m sure!
In terms of controls, the game starts you off with 1 simple “jump” button that you can tap at the lower right corner of the screen. However, before long, you’ll be juggling a few more buttons, like buttons that allow the gnome to engage in combat, and controls, such as holding down the jump button will allow your adorable gnome to glide across dangerous stretches of the path using a pair of pink knickers as a parachute-slash-hand glider. The controls may seem simple enough but when you couple them with a very fast gameplay where every second counts... you’ll definitely be in for a challenge!
Not to mention, in this game, you will need to help the gnome collect socks – be it normal ones or the coveted golden sock – in addition to completing the level in one piece. You will also need to avoid all manners of danger such as sharp spikes, crumbling platforms, and of course, the enemies.
Some levels are, on the other hand, timed levels, which in this case, your gnome will be forcefully strapped to a ticking time bomb. For this type of level, you might want to turn on the “ghost option” via the settings menu so you could see how far ahead or behind you are as compared to the ideal playthrough. There are also over 100 levels for you to play in Geki Yaba Runner, and considering that the levels can be really challenging, you will definitely not be able to just breeze through all of them in a playthrough or even two.
Furthermore, instead of having a 3-star system that most casual games have, you’ll be striving to complete the secondary objective each level has to offer in an attempt to secure a trophy. These trophies are important for you to unlock the heavily fortified gates to the subsequent levels.
Of course, you’ll be allowed to replay a level for as many times as you like in order to get that trophy. However, every death in the game will result in a loss of your gnome’s lives. You start with 50 gnome lives, which may seem like a lot at first, but once you hit one of the tougher levels, you’ll be surprised how fast your lives get taken by the game.
Lives do not regenerate in a similar manner as compared to many other casual games. Instead, you can collect a bunch of free lives every hour from the cluster of dwellings on the top left corner of the level selection map. It’s always best to try to minimize your deaths. After all, 1 hour can be quite a long time to wait!
If you happen to fail a level for far too many times, you might be tempted to just skip that level. Thankfully, in Geki Yaba Runner, you can do just that! The game provides players with 1 veto-like skip ticket that you can use on a single level. You can then reclaim your “skip” if you return to the skipped level and managed to complete it. Besides this method, there is no other way for you to earn more “skips”, which is fair enough.
Being a free-to-play game, we’ll definitely need to touch on the monetization method that is used in Geki Yaba Runner. However, unlike any other free-to-play games in existence, you are actually allowed to choose how you want to “pay” the developers for their amazing game. There are 3 main options – you could watch a short ad video to remove ads for 10 minutes at a time; you could also enable shorter ads in between each level or you could choose to disable all forms of pop-ups forever by paying a mere $1.49. Whichever option you choose, rest assured that you’ll be showing your support to the game and the people behind it.
The community at Geki Yaba Runner is still rather small at the moment as the game was just released early this month. However, with time and some word-of-the-mouth, the community of players will definitely grow. So, if you enjoy playing the game, be sure to let your friends and family know!
In terms of graphics, Geki Yaba Runner has some pretty adorable visuals. I personally love how cute the gnome looks and how the vibrant the in-game environment feels. However, due to the inherent nature – or should I say “speed”? – of the game, it can be kind of hard to truly appreciate the art behind the game. For music, the game features a rather catchy music that sounds fun and carefree. It suits the somewhat whimsical theme of the game perfectly.
All in all, Geki Yaba Runner is definitely a casual running game that players who love a challenge would enjoy playing. It features a rather humorous story of a gnome trying to save the kidnapped princess and, in the process, save the kingdom. You’ll need to help the gnome to navigate safely through various levels that are filled with an array of obstacles and dangers while collecting as many socks as you can. Fight against monsters and glide through spike-covered tunnels using the simple yet intuitive controls the game provides. With over 100 levels available and many more stars for you to earn, you’ll be able to play Geki Yaba Runner for quite some time! So, be sure to give this game a try today and experience the exhilarating and fast-paced gameplay for yourself!
