Plotline

World Flipper features the main story of the game’s protagonists as they explore through the World Flipper, which is the gate to different worlds. It all started when two lost souls, Alk and Stella, met in a forgotten village, a mote of dust lost in an infinite sky. Although one doesn’t remember the past and the other could not picture her future as a gatekeeper, they lived together in peace and friendship for a while until a furry creature fell from the sky, bringing the turning point that would change their lives. The furry creature named Light, who was once a great champion from an unknown distant world, was being chased after by the agents of the Dark Throne. Alk and Stella decided to help Light to fight the enemy, and they embark on a perilous yet exciting journey to bring Light back to his world by venturing to other worlds through World Flipper.

Gameplay

In World Flipper, you aim and fire your characters with flippers toward foes to defeat them. Each character has a unique skill set and element characteristic. Your characters are called units in the game. Units, foes, and skills may be categorized as one of six elements. Some elements are more effective against others. You can only bring three units into each battle, and each unit is tied to an element that can trigger special skills. Hence, bring those units that have an elemental advantage against the enemies. You can also assign a second character to assist each of your units to trigger a special combination of skills.

The battles in World Flipper can get pretty hectic. The core of the game is still pinball. In other words, you need to defeat foes that attack like a 'shoot’em up' game by launching your units from the flipper on the 'pinball board' to the best spot to strike the enemies effectively. Fighting bosses is somewhat more difficult as they have an extra guard protection layer. To overcome this, you need to break their soft spots. This will allow you to deal maximum damage to the boss and win the battle!

Another strategy that is useful in the game is that you can aim to hit multiple foes in a single shot to charge up the unit’s skill gauge so that you can unleash its unique skill once it is full. Building up a successive chain of attacks will allow you to activate the power flip, which will grant you more hits and damage to the enemy.

In addition to the missions of the storyline, there are special events, Kaleidoscope daily quest, and exciting boss challenges. You can choose to go solo or team up with other players in co-op mode when you challenge the boss battles. In co-op mode, you can recruit players who are already in the game or even create a link that you can share on your social media to invite others to the game.

World Flipper also uses the gacha system that is very common in JRPG. You get new units by spinning gacha in the portal. You need Beads to spin gacha, and these Beads can only be obtained when you completed story missions or special events. As one would expect, you will need to level up and upgrade the skills of your units using mana and materials in the mana board. All the resources you use to enhance your units can be obtained from the mission rewards.

Each character in World Flipper is well developed and fits the entire story arc, as their back story is developed extensively and in detail. For those who enjoy the storytelling style of a JRPG, you can dive into the story behind each character through unit episodes.

Graphics/ Sound

The overall design of the game is lively and bright, with 2D pixel art graphics. The anime-like characters and the way the story is presented are fascinating. Despite that not all dialogues have voice-over, the Japanese voice acting of the characters is quite good. The game also put a tremendous amount of attention on the soundtracks. A diverse set of soundtracks are used for every world, allowing for a deeply immersive gaming experience.
