The game starts off with a nice tutorial describing what you can do in order to grow your transport business!
To begin, you’ll need coal. Coal is the lifeline for every transport business, so you must ensure that you’re getting a steady supply of them… enough to support the operations of your other trains. To get coal, you’ll need to assign one of your trains to a coal contract at the coal factory and get it to transport coal to your station. It will take awhile to complete, depending on how much coal you’ve ordered, so you’ll need to select one that is suitable for you. If you cannot wait, you can spend some of your in-game money or resources to speed things up.
There are also other resources that are important in developing your train station as well as building new resource production facilities, such as stone and wood. To build such facilities in order to extract the resources you need, you’ll first need to start the construction process after you have enough in-game money as well as resources, if necessary. The facilities will need some time to complete their construction processes as well. Then, you’ll need to connect the building to your trade network by adding train tracks, so you can send the resources produced to your train station for storage. Of course, the construction of the train tracks will take up some time too!
To boost up production, you can upgrade or “modernize” your facilities if you have sufficient resources and money. By upgrading, you can unlock the second-level contracts that provide a lot more resources per trip but are not as fast. Another way to gain more resources and money is by completing quests and any additional tasks provided. Once you’ve restore the forester’s lodge, you can also collect coins from there as well!
You can also get more resources when you can carry out multiple contracts at the same time. In order to do this though, you will need to purchase more trains. You can buy another locomotive at the shop! There are many types of beautiful locomotives that are available, such as Puffing Billy, Rocket, Mogul and Pacific locomotives. Each locomotive is designated with their respective grades, or in other words, quality. The grade of each locomotive is shown in terms of “gears” instead of the usual “stars” – the more gears a locomotive have, the better it is! However, to purchase more locomotives, you will need more sidetracks at your railway station and the 2 ways to get more sidetracks are by upgrading your station or by unlocking new stations in other cities, which you only can do after you’ve completed certain quests in the game.
There are different types of carriage as well and each of them serves a different purpose. For instance, you’ll need flatcars to transport wood while you need boxcars to transport stone and clay. To add carriages to your locomotive, you can do so after you’ve selected a contract to carry out. The game will pop up a prompt asking you which locomotive you’ll be using (especially you have more than 1 type) as well as which carriage. Don’t worry about getting the wrong carriage though – the game will highlight the carriage you can use for that particular contract that you want to start.
If you’re more of the competitive type, you’ll be glad to know that you can participate in competitions after you’ve reached a certain level. Competitions usually involve producing sufficient goods or stockpile the required resources within the time limit and you’ll be racing against time with other players as well! After a competition is done, you’ll be ranked and the rewards will be distributed accordingly.
Soon, as you level up, you can unlock other means of transportation including boats and airships by expanding your land. You can even hire managers to help you manage your rapidly expanding transport empire!
Considering that Transport Empire is a game that appeals to a certain niche of gamers, it is rather amazing to see that it has over 120 thousand likes on its Facebook fan page. That definitely speaks volumes about the popularity of the game! The majority of its community often hangs out there, so if you want to meet and chat with your fellow players, it is THE place to be! There are also occasional contests where winners can get premium currencies, in-game cash and resources or even exclusive locomotives as prizes!
The game’s 2.5D graphics is amazing. The map where you can see the overview of your transport empire looks fantastic and it’s nice to see how detailed its locomotives, carriages and even cities are! The game does not provide any sort of music though. However, Transport Empire boasts of having one of the most realistic ambient sounds in a transport-based game. You can listen to the sound of the countryside along with the horn (that goes toot-toot) of the trains. The sounds do really provide a certain degree of game immersion.
In summary, Transport Empire is a brilliant transport game whereby you are given the chance to manage your very own transport company and eventually… empire! The game provides a huge variety of beautiful trains and even boats as well as airships for you to purchase and transport goods in. However, to send out your transports to do the heavy hauling work, you’ll need to have enough coal to fuel them. With money and resources at hand, you can easily build up your production facilities so you can transport more goods per trip, as well as your railway stations in order to increase the number of locomotives you can own! So, hop on board the express train and start your journey to become a transport tycoon in Transport Empire today!
