Summary

Tiny Lands 2 is the sequel to the highly acclaimed, cozy indie puzzle game, which revolves around finding trickily hidden differences between two miniature 3D dioramas. Complete with a hint system, a fun photo mode, and plenty of challenging collectibles that you can choose to collect, this sequel vastly improves on the familiar formula, delivering a uniquely relaxing and tactile puzzle experience.

Gameplay

The gameplay here is exactly the same as before – you’ll search each diorama from top to bottom for a total of five differences. The differences can be anything from a color change to a size difference, to even slight displacement, such as having an item facing the “wrong way”. The differences can be very subtle sometimes, which does make them that much harder to find, but the game knows this and serenades you with relaxing tunes so you can enjoy the music and take your time finding things.

Of course, when push comes to shove, the game does try to help you out with its hint system. It recharges over time, and there’s no limit to how many times you can use it. Plus, instead of simply highlighting the difference, or, in other words, giving you the answer directly, the hint will highlight a radial area where you can find said difference. This way, even by using hints, you will still feel like you’ve put in some work to find the difference, which in turn makes it so much more satisfying as compared to simply being handed the answer.

Completing a level will earn you some stars. You’ll need these stars to unlock other levels to play. Naturally, some levels may require more stars to unlock than others, but that isn’t an indicator of the level’s difficulty.

For players who find that “spot the difference” aspect of the gameplay too easy, Tiny Lands 2 now comes with a collectible section where you can attempt to find devilishly hidden jigsaw pieces in each scene. Each jigsaw piece found will also earn you free stickers as per the sticker packs you’ll tear open. Once you have all the jigsaw pieces, a collectible will then be unlocked and added to your collectible rack for viewing.

True to the original, this sequel retains its “no punishment” policy, so there’s no time limit and no penalty for incorrect clicks. Players can simply enjoy finding differences at their own pace! All of this is in addition to the game’s many quality-of-life features, including its “Center Camera” option, which centers the camera, the orbital camera that allows you to rotate the camera almost anyway you like, and a much-improved photo mode (more on this in the Graphics section).

Graphics/ Sound

Tiny Lands 2 features handcrafted 3D dioramas with photorealistic miniature scenes that blend everyday objects into tiny worlds you can explore from multiple angles. The visuals mix detailed real-world items with vibrant, whimsical compositions, creating scenes that feel like carefully assembled model sets.

The new photo mode is fantastic here as well! Besides being able to angle your photos the way you want, the game even provides a ton of fun stickers that you can add to your photos in various creative ways before saving them. The game is also more accessible, offering three colorblind modes, including deuteranopia, tritanopia, and protanopia for the visually impaired.

In terms of sound, the game comes with a selection of relaxing and chill tunes that serenade you as you find the differences. The music really sets the atmosphere for each scene well. In fact, I can see myself booting the game up just to enjoy the music while I busy myself with other work.

Following in the wake of its predecessor’s breakout success, Tiny Lands 2 improved on the formula that made the game great by introducing some nice quality-of-life features and by ramping up the challenge for those who seek it. Here, you’ll be meticulously comparing two 3D still-life scenes and finding five differences. There are also puzzle pieces to find, which will then unlock a collectible, and a hint system that doesn’t ruin the game by simply revealing the answer.
