The ancient house made of secrets as much as of stone now harbors a brightly intelligent but gravely afflicted man calling himself the Puppeteer. Investigate and learn what mysterious forces and undisclosed motives drive him to abduct people, including you, and test their will for freedom.
You start by finding yourself with a pounding headache in the attic of a creaky old house with a suspicious audio cassette in your pocket. From there, you are introduced to the mysterious Puppeteer and he wants to play a game with you. It seems that you are locked in a house with many rooms, and in each of them, there are tests that will bring you closer to freedom if you dared to take the risk to solve them!
The game starts off with you finding yourself in a strange room and a mysterious person, calling himself the Puppeteer asking you to play a game... if you want to regain your freedom of course. To be able to escape from the house, you’ll need to find or obtain all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzles for each of the rooms in the house, which are a lot, and reassemble them and to unlock each of these rooms, you’ll need to reach a certain level of freedom.
You’ll be presented with the floor plan of the house you’re trapped in. The rooms with the lights on are unlocked rooms. Starting from the kitchen, you will gradually move your way to the other rooms, including the living room, the basement, the attic and many others, both inside and outside the creepy mansion.
Let the game begin then! Enter different rooms in The Panic Room: House of Secrets to play different hidden object scenes! Each game you play consumes a certain amount of lives, but your lives will regenerate over time. You can speed things up by asking your friends for lives or by shelling out some real money. You could also refill your life meter by earning another level of freedom in addition to the gold tokens you get as well as the plus 10 to your life limit. Each room contains 5 stars maximum for you to earn and you can replay each scene in order to earn those 5 stars!
Furthermore, the hidden object scenes are timed as well and if you can manage to complete a scene faster than your friends, you will gain a nice bonus! If you’re quick enough to find everything that you need before the time is up, then the reward is yours! However, don’t worry that the game is too challenging – you thankfully just need to find 4 to 5 items per scene and the locations of the items are generally the same. In fact, the items that you have to find are almost the same in every playthrough too!
To ramp up the challenge, the scenes in The Panic Room: House of Secrets offers various special modes. They include text, shadow, night, cache, ghosts, darkness, invisible ink, against time and mirror room. The text mode is the usual mode you’ll play whereby a list of items’ names are provided to you while the shadow mode requires you to recognize the silhouettes in the list provided and find the items. The night mode darkened the entire scene, making finding items much harder than before. These new modes will need to be activated before you can enjoy playing them, besides the text and shadow modes and it costs gold tokens (premium currency) to unlock them.
Each scene also contains dangers too, in the form of traps, for example! There are certain items on the scene that are traps although they may look inconspicuous. If you accidentally clicked on any of them, you will lose some lives and time. Sometimes, you may even encounter other inhabitants in the secret house. You can then help them solve their problems via quests and plenty of hidden object games in order to find out more behind the story of the Puppeteer as well as to uncover the secrets of the house you are trapped in!
As aforementioned, the objective this is game is fairly simple. You’ll have to help the inhabitants with their problems in order to obtain jigsaw pieces from them. Once you have all the pieces for each of the rooms, you can piece them together to form complete pictures. Each completed jigsaw puzzle will lead you to the location of one of the keys in the house. When you find all the keys, you’ll be free! It may sound a bit long winded, which it is in some way, but it’s easy to know what you’ll need to do in this game to escape from the eerie house.
Surprisingly, the Puppeteer in The Panic Room: House of Secrets helps you in your escape by providing certain aids. For example, if you cannot find an item from the puppeteer’s list, you can purchase a laser, for example, to show you the location of the item that you need! He also provides you with armored safes hidden in the scenes you play. Each safe requires a certain number of lockpicks to open them and when opened, they will provide you with a serious load of bonuses!
However, when opening safes, there’s a 24-hour waiting period and within that time your friends can steal your safe/s. Thus, to prevent any potential thieves from running away with your loot, you’ll need to rig some booby traps of your own in your room! Besides traps, you can also decorate your room with unusual items to increase the number of freedom points you’ll receive for completing scenes. Most of the items will cost you gold tokens though and even those that cost copper tokens are much too expensive for a beginner to buy. The choices are rather limited as well!
Lastly, you can also collect statuettes and other collectibles from various scenes and complete the collection to earn free aid items and tokens. There is also a system of records and rewards, a.k.a. leaderboard, whereby the top scorers will earn a nice boost for every freedom points they earn! There are even events, which allow you to choose a side, either the underground or the followers, in a dangerous game or pitch in the effort to fill up the event jar with goodies.
