There are many classic games that are, unfortunately, gone and forgotten. Many have failed to make a comeback, even if they remain beloved. Many were flocked to by countless gamers in arcades, and some were fixtures in every family’s living room. Fortunately, this isn’t the case for Bubble Bobble, a Taito masterpiece given a fresh lease on life with TAITO's Puzzle Bobble EveryBubble. If you were a gamer in the 90s and early 2000s, it’s likely you’ve played the early games in the franchise, may it be in your local arcade or on a Game Boy. On a personal note, I remember playing one of the games in the franchise, which was a platformer, on the GBA.

Reminiscing aside, Puzzle Bobble EveryBubble is a fitting modernized version of the earlier arcade titles. Taito and ININ Games have something special here by creating a game that has both retro magic but with updated visual appeal and fresh gameplay mechanics. Plotline

The main appeal of TAITO's Puzzle Bobble EveryBubble is its story mode. You’ll have the option to play as Bub, the green dragon who is also the face of the franchise, or one of his friends. Together, you’ll set off on an adventure across Rainbow Island after it was somehow covered by countless bubbles. Your goal is to completely pop them and help out the trapped inhabitants like the Chackn’s and miniroons. You’ll explore the entirety of Rainbow Island, visiting various locations like the Rainbow Village and Baron’s Tower.

Gameplay

TAITO's Puzzle Bobble EveryBubble retains the franchise’s signature bubble shooting experience. You’ll play as one of the four main characters and shoot bubbles from the bottom of the screen to the top. If you match three or more of similar, they all explode. This sounds relatively easy, but the game has countless intricacies you will need to be concerned about, like the line on the bottom of the screen, which signals a game over if even a single bubble from the top goes through it, along with many other bubble types. In essence, it’s a casual experience but with a degree of challenge and difficulty that would appeal to hardcore fans. It also helps that there are EX Stages that add an all-new layer.

Puzzle Bobble EveryBubble contains multiple stages, each with 15 levels. Levels are varied, and each has its own set of intricacies and gameplay additions that keep everything fresh and, more importantly, give you new layers of challenge. The further you progress, the more functions and challenges you’ll unlock. However, you can quickly get the job done if you play your “bubbles” correctly. For example, there are bomb bubbles you can hit or obtain, overpowered ones that pop similar-colored ones, and guide bubbles that extend the aiming line so you can hit your shots more accurately.
