Honestly, there are not a lot of video games that let you play as a rescuer or someone who actually endeavors to save people. In an industry rife with games that make you compete and attack others, SOS OPS is a breath of fresh air, even if it’s more of a Fall Guys or Human Fall Flat take on the rescue genre.

In a nutshell, SOS OPS is a rather wacky and hilarious take on the rescue simulation genre. Instead of an experience that makes you accurately try to deal with fires, accidents, and cats stuck on trees, it makes things rather complicated and laughter-inducing via its ragdoll physics and the elements that make it a little hard for players to control their characters. Most of the time, you struggle with the controls rather than the actual objective. Regardless, it’s a co-op experience best played with friends offers memorable and funny gaming sessions.

Plotline

There’s no particular plot or story in SOS OPS, except for those in the in-game situations. For example, in every situation, there’s a short story background explaining the details of the rescue mission. From rather trivial situations like saving a cat stuck on a tree or a pizzeria on fire, the game offers a good amount of scenarios.

In a nutshell, SOS OPs is an action-packed adventure that blends city-wide exploration with thrilling missions and scenarios. Although you can most certainly play the game on singleplayer, we can’t help but say that it’s a game designed to be played and enjoyed with friends.

In SOS OPS, players find themselves in the middle of a bustling city and will go on missions handed over to them by a computer in their command center. Once players have chosen a mission, they are tasked to head down the HQ’s pipe immediately and into the garage (in classic firefighter style) and ride a vehicle to the mission’s location. Apart from the usual cars and trucks, players can also utilize firetrucks that shoot water and other vehicles equipped with different pieces of equipment.

After which, you will then head out and embark on missions throughout the city. Although completing the objectives is the primary goal, you will need to finish them as quickly as possible to obtain the highest score. Though you can play on single-player mode, most of SOS OPS’ appeal lies in cooperating with your teammates. Whether you are trying to solve puzzles, rescue stuck citizens, or put out fires, the game is filled with exciting moments and opportunities to build camaraderie.

SOS OPS controls are relatively straightforward, though it takes time to get used to the handling, difficult physics, and clunky handling mechanics. Thankfully, the main hub enables players to practice and get used to the controls. There are countless activities like shooting a basketball or even playing football. However, we can’t help but lament the game’s unnecessarily difficult elements, like the difficulty in jumping on a car or precisely handling a fire extinguisher.

Fortunately, there’s a massive range of levels and missions in SOS OPS. For example, there’s the amusement park, which is bursting with activities and things to do, along with areas like a suburban neighborhood with a stuck cat and a pizzeria on fire in the downtown area. Cooperation between team members is a necessity to accomplish tasks, and although certain actions may lead to comical consequences, teamwork, and quick reflexes are necessary to accomplish each task.

Despite its moments of frustration, SOS OPS! delivers an unforgettable cooperative gaming experience. While exploring the vibrant cityscape or causing chaos in the amusement park, players will find plenty of opportunities for spontaneous fun. Though not without its flaws, this game shines brightest when enjoyed with friends, offering a unique blend of open-world exploration and fast-paced missions that will keep players coming back for more. Whether you're seeking thrills or simply looking to unwind with friends, SOS OPS! is an adventure worth embarking on together.

Although you can play SOS OPS alone, diving into the game with other players is highly recommended. Matchmaking takes a while due to the game’s low player base, but you’ll be able to find random players to start saving the city with.

In terms of presentation, SOS OPS does not really stand out much, but it offers just enough to look modern. In a way, the visuals are comparable to experiences like Fall Guys and Human Fall Flat; if you’ve played either of these games, SOS OPS will feel right at home.
