From the makers of popular match-3 games like Candy Crush Saga comes another delightful addition to your puzzle addiction, Scrubby Dubby Saga. Scrubby Dubby Saga is set in the squeaky clean world of Soapland, where all the fun stops when a mysterious foam starts to wash the soap animals away. Help them stop the foam invasion and start sliding soaps in this bubbly match-3 game.
While Scrubby Dubby Saga is a match-3 game, it’s slightly different in terms of game mechanics. Rather than swapping two pieces, you need to slide soaps to line them up with the same kind of soap and make a match in order to clear them off the board.
You will have a specific goal for each level of the game. The goals can either be: Collection, Foam, Pearl or Free Your Friends. Collection involves collecting a certain number and type of soaps, while Foam requires you to clear the foam underneath the soap tiles. For Pearl, you need to collect a certain number of pearls in the level. Pearls are hidden in clams. To reveal these pearls, you need to open the clams by matching three or more clams on the board. Lastly, Free Your Friends involves freeing characters from their cages by matching same-colored soaps nearby. If your game is connected to Facebook, these characters can be your Facebook friends. If you get stuck, hints will automatically suggest a move so you can continue the game.
To make each level easier, you can match four or more soaps to create power-up bottles. These bottles blast through tiles when clicked or tapped on. Combine two or more bottles to create more powerful bottles with bigger blast coverage.
To complete a level, you need to accomplish the given goal. You are only given limited number of turns, so be sure that each turn gets you closer to achieving your goal. To avoid running out of turns, you can focus on getting soap bottles so you clear more soaps with fewer turns. If you do run out of turns, you can add more by spending real money. Depending on the number of soaps you cleared for each level, you get points and a rating of one to three stars. Getting three stars is always great if you want to receive extra rewards later on in the game.
You start Scrubby Dubby Saga with five lives. Every time you fail to complete a level, you lose one life. Each life regenerates within 30 minutes. If you can’t wait, you can always get more lives by buying it with Gold Bars, or you can simply ask your friends. Note that you can only have five lives at a time though, so no matter how many lives you get from your Friends, your lives will always be five at the maximum.
In addition to goals, there are several quests that you can accomplish as you play the game, and you get Gold Bars when you complete these quests. Gold Bars can in turn be used to buy extra lives, moves or power-up bottles.
As you go into more advanced levels, you’ll encounter different blockers that will make each level more challenging. There are ice blocks, which are created as a result of an ice explosion. They can’t be matched but they can be removed by matching soaps next to them. You may need to make several matches around it as some ice blocks may have up to three layers. Other blocks are nets, sand castles and ice bombs. Nets cover soap items on the game board, and a match of that soap is required for the net to be cleared.
Sand castles are similar to ice blocks, as they can have up to three layers of strength. In addition, they also block power-up bottles, so when a power-up is activated, it doesn’t affect sand castle blockers. An ice bomb, on the other hand, needs to be deactivated as quickly as possible. You can take it off the board just like any other item by matching it with two or more soaps of the same color. If there are still ice bombs left, it will count down with each move you make, and when it counts down to zero, all the tiles around it will be covered with ice.
If you’re having trouble getting rid of these blockers, you can use the Soap Hammer. This becomes available once you’ve collected enough Gold Bars and reach a certain level. Soap Hammers can remove any blocker tile from the board. Simply click or tap on the Hammer on the bottom of the screen, then click or tap on the blocker you want to remove. Soap Hammers can only be used three times in one level, so be sure to use them wisely. To get more Soap Hammers, you can buy them with Gold Bars, or from the in-game shop.
Like many King match-3 games, Scrubby Dubby Saga has a growing community of avid gamers. If you have lots of friends playing Candy Crush Saga, then chances are they’re playing this one too. Adding friends enable you to complete levels faster, as you can get more lives by asking them for it rather than waiting for lives to regenerate.
Cute graphics and animation are some of the best things about this game. Seeing bubbles pop and float around when you clear the board feels absolutely rewarding, and you might get the strong urge to take a bubble bath. The upbeat music in the background is great to keep you going even when things are a bit slow.
Scrubby Dubby Saga is a great, refreshing match-3 game. It’s unique enough to offer something new to the avid match-3 puzzle gamers, while friendly enough for new players. It’s not as restrictive in terms of lives and turns, and you can expect to complete the entire game without spending a cent. Besides, it’s great to play with soap bubbles without all the mess.
