Plotline
Play as Mrs. Victoria Villensey, a screen idol past her time in the limelight seeking to do the performance of her life. She is beautiful, cunning, and a dissatisfied wife to Malcolm. The husband has been killed, and you did it. With the better half resting in peace below the murky depths, it is time to pin the blame on someone else or, at the very least, get away without becoming the prime suspect. Meet fellow passengers and crew members, know their stories, and start weaving yours. Their idiosyncrasies and circumstances will be used to the widow’s advantage.
Although not everything is black and white, discover the real reason behind this heinous act as you near the end of this trip. What is Villensey’s motivation, and why did Malcolm deserve such a cold and dark demise? How do the other passengers fit into this complicatedly deadly puzzle? Will this be her final masterpiece, or will it be sidelined once and for all? Find out as you weave your narrative and reach numerous different endings.
Overboard has a well-crafted story for its short runtime and branching paths. In the end, the twist you make through unconventional decisions and the actual main reveal is satisfying. Quite linear in the finale since the major details remain constant, but the journey to it and how you manipulated everyone to be led there is exciting. Players get to learn more as they frequently interact with other characters; these reveal new details and opportunities to progress the tale.
Gameplay
This is a traditional visual novel experience. Players get to enjoy a story presented with mostly static imagery and numerous lines of text. There is a simple map exploration aspect, and people can move around the different areas to receive unique interactions with the items and characters. The investigation is an essential aspect of this genre, even if it isn’t exclusively a mystery title. The audience examines various items and talks to the other cast to get the gist of any situation.
Dialogue options dictate where the direction of the story ends up. Choose from 3 vague statements that provide hints as to how Victoria will react. Again, thanks to the multiple routes, there is a lot to see and do. One can replay the entire game and end up with an entirely different conclusion, thanks to a decision made somewhere throughout the playthrough.
It is a chill gaming experience you can put down and pick up at any time. This is a visual novel that is not a chore to read because of the excellent writing. The time to finish is not too extensive, allowing for a painless replay potential.

This is a single-player only. It is like a mystery board game, but you are the only player, and you are also the culprit.
Graphics/Sound
Overboard features amazing 2D drawn art, and its comic book-style aesthetic shows off a lot of personalities. It provides a 30s-era ambiance, perfectly depicting the narrative the game is trying to convey.
Meanwhile, the UI is minimal and stylish, and there are no unnecessary systems to clutter the screen. The text size is easily adjustable, and this is important because most of the time, you will do a lot of reading. The visuals are a treat for the eyes. The representation of the historical point in time is appreciated. Honestly, it might be hard to pull off if the setting was different. Nice homage to pulp mystery stories back in the day.
The music chosen is appropriate for reflecting the period, it gives off the feeling like you are watching an old-school detective flick. Various songs are used for the background, all helping with the ambiance.
A short voice acting for the introduction can be heard. Some more lines are spoken at the end, but that is all. Performance is of high quality; it could definitely have been used more. The audio for this title adds a lot to the presentation and immersion. Music gives a nice soothing feeling; it lulls you into a state of relaxation and then changes it up to match a tense situation.
Conclusion
Overboard is a must-have for mystery fans and visual novel enthusiasts looking for something different. A short and sweet story that does not overstay its welcome and encourages multiple playthroughs. Easy and intuitive mechanics allow a low wall of entry. It is an engaging casual experience.https://www.iningames.com/games/80-days-overboard/
