Summary
League of Angels: Heaven’s Fury is the latest game from within the League of Angels franchise and it is possibly the best one yet! Featuring tons of freebies, cool enemies to fight, and challenging and competitive events and dungeons to dive into, the game is incredibly attention-grabbing, addictively fun to play, and is definitely a huge step-up from the original in every way.
Plotline
Led by powerful Nidhogg the dragon, demons have escaped from the Pandora’s Box and have invaded the world, yet again. It is now up to you to defeat the dragon and put the demons back in their place. However, an early plot twist hits as you realized that it was Zeus, or at least a corrupted version of him, who opened the Box. The fight wasn’t easy but with Athena’s timely appearance and help, you’ve managed to defeat the boss.
However, the world is already in chaos due to the demonic invasion. Plus, Zeus may be gone, but his elites and lieutenants are still carrying out his bidding across the land. Your help is still needed to take the fight to each and every one of them and, with the divine help from the angels themselves, save the world from their darkness.
The storyline is a bit “all over the place” here, but that’s fairly typical of such browser-style MMOs. That said, the story does feature some really cool dragons, gods and goddesses that we all know and love, and will bring you on a journey throughout the huge and well-varied world.
Gameplay
To start, you’ll get to choose one out of three character classes. Two of them are male – the warrior and the mage, while the only female character is an archer. There isn’t exactly a “perfect” class since they have their own advantages and disadvantages, so if you’ve got to choose be sure to pick one that you’ll be happy to play as for hours on end.
League of Angels: Heaven’s Fury retains all of the addictively entertaining elements of the League of Angels game franchise. This includes the rapid levelling up in the its early game, where everything just seems to fall into place as you advance the storyline and hop from quest giver to quest giver. You’ll have enough resources to advance fairly easily for the first 150 levels or so, but things do start to slow down once you hit the level milestone.
This is where the game’s many dungeons and events comes in and lend you a hand. There is an insane number of dungeons, all of which involve killing things and getting loot, whether it is greatly boosted experience points (EXP instances), legendary quality gear (multiplayer dungeons and boss hunts), angel upgrade materials (story instances), and more. There are even equipment dungeons, daily event-linked dungeons whereby the entrance to the dungeon only opens for a few hours every day, and even a Tower of Eternity where you’ll get to test your skills.
You can’t raid dungeons day in and day out though! There are caps and limits for each dungeon type. For some, you can obtain extra entries by having certain “titles”, which will probably cost you some form of real money; but for others, like the Dragonslayer Temple, there aren’t any way for you to bypass the waiting period.
All of these are PvE dungeons though… what about PvP? Well, you’d be surprise how many seemingly “PvE” content can actually get extremely competitive, especially the higher level you are. For instance, you’d expect the world boss event to be more PvE, as players have to work together to defeat a strong boss, than PvP, but this isn’t true at all because the game rewards the player “affiliated” with the boss with a higher chance of a good loot drop. “Affiliated” here means that the person is being targeted by the boss and is, essentially, “tanking” it for the rest of the team. Players would attack the affiliated player in hopes of taking that coveted title for themselves… and things can get pretty brutal.
Of course, that’s not including the obviously PvP events like Princess Escort since the game rewards players who attack other players’ escorts with a lot more loot, and the ranked PvP arena (a.k.a. Battle Lobby).
Now, advancing your character in League of Angels: Heaven’s Fury is very straightforward. As long as you keep upgrading everything that you can, you’re on the right path. However, I’d like to point out that a lot of the upgrades in this game relies on diamonds which is the most basic in-game currency that is. This sounds good and all, but once you reach higher levels, the cost of upgrade can be insanely high and there are multiple items that require the same upgrade resource. As a result, you’ll end up not being able to upgrade certain items as fast as you’d like.
Being a freemium game means that League of Angels: Heaven’s Fury does reward spenders with a lot of benefits that would allow them to basically stomp over every other free-to-play player. That said, you could still be ranked pretty high on your server without spending a dime if you want but you’d need to put in a whole lot of time, effort, and energy into be strong enough to be able to stand among the best.
I’d also like to point out that, from a freebies standpoint, this game is already incredibly generous. The game gives you rewards after rewards, especially if you’re playing on a new server – gotta make full use of those new server freebies!
Community
Like its predecessor, League of Angels: Heaven’s Fury can be a highly social game… if you want it to be. There are guilds that you can join and be active in, such as coordinating with your guildmates when taking on world bosses or guild bosses. There are also random “PUG” (pick-up groups) multiplayer dungeons where cooperation between players is crucial if the boss is going to be defeated.
Graphics/ Sound
The graphics here are definitely a nice step up from the original and properly reflects the advancement technology has made over the 7 years since the franchise’s first inception. The game is more 3D since you are allowed limited movement of the camera and that, in turn, allows you to take some really nice screenshots of your character, his/her mount, wings, and pet. The sound is fantastic here as well. The music is very inspirational which suit perfectly with the “save the world”-themed storyline, and the same could be said about its sound effects.
Conclusion
YOOZOO did it again! League of Angels is one of the best automation-driven browser MMORPGs around and with League of Angels: Heaven’s Fury, they somehow have managed to top what they have previously achieved in every way. The gameplay is as addictively fun as before with tons of freebies, especially if you know where to look, rapid early progression, cool items and gear, and plenty of PvP opportunities everywhere you look!
If you love playing idle-style browser MMORPGs, especially League of Angels, then you’ll want to play this thrilling sequel.
