Summary
Infinite Crisis is a MOBA game that transports you to the world of DC Superheroes, a multiverse of worlds all facing a great enemy bent on destruction. By becoming a Protector you will be taking control of one of the greatest Champions from these much loved comics. Step into the shoes of a hero, or the mind of a villain and battle your way to dominance in an amazing game.
Plotline
Rather than the world we know, it seems we are not alone, there are in fact 52 worlds, forming a multiverse. Each is different and unique, and they are all being assaulted by a powerful unknown enemy. One world is already destroyed, and the rest face great peril.
Enter the Monitor Nix Uotan, one of the last of a powerful race. He is not enough alone to stop this enemy, and so he has created the Construct, a sentient being capable of taking you, as a Protector and merging your mind with that of a hero, on one of any of the 52 worlds.
When you step into the role of a character, be they good or evil, hero or villain you are making them into a champion. In the area between worlds known as the bleed, there are places to learn, train and battle to prepare for the coming struggle.
Each world has it’s subtle yet very real differences, Batman from our world, becomes something much darker in the Nightmare world, or uses the power of sound in the Gaslight World. Each character you love is changed, and they all come with very different powers to what you would expect.
Gather your strength and courage, become a Protector and create your Champion.
Gameplay
Infinite Crisis brings together everything you could expect from a MOBA style game, and blends it seamlessly with the DC universe, and along the way has created some unique champions, powers and a brilliant gaming experience.
The game begins with a pretty in depth tutorial, if you have never played any MOBA style games before this gives you a brilliant introduction to the genre, mechanics and combat that these games rely on. If you know the genre well you can skip the tutorials and go straight into the action.
There is a range of heroes to play, each with a unique set of four abilities. As well as these there is a passive skill, and two stolen powers. All of these combine to give you a depth of play that is sometimes missing from other games. They also give you a large range of skills to pick and power up as you play.
There are some characters that unlocked and free to play, others you will need to purchase. Once you purchase a character it is always available to play and will appear on the champion selection all the time, the other champions on the list are a selection taken from the free characters.
Once you choose a character you have the option to create and use amplifiers, these are special boosts to each aspect of the character, from run speed to attack power. You have a list to choose from but can only use a select few. More powerful amplifiers can be purchased too.
As mentioned above, there are stolen powers available to you too, these are the powers of other heroes and villains that you can use to compliment you own skills. These vary from extra security cameras to teleporting short distances. Choose your powers wisely to work well with your core 4 skills.
There are four maps to choose from, and each features a different number of lanes, players and unique neutral monsters and boosters. From a simple private 1v1 game to practice, to the much loved 5v5 3 lane arenas. In each map the goal is to destroy the enemies power plant and win the match.
As you play you will earn both experience and credits, these are both important as they determine your power within each game. Your experience allows you to improve skills, the higher your level the more skill points and powerful they are. Credits can be spent on Artifacts that will improve your abilities or grant new ones.
There is a large list of artifacts, and once you purchase on they can also be upgraded. You can purchase them when you are in your home base, next to a turret or while waiting to respawn. If you are a little overwhelmed or not sure what to buy, there is also a recommended purchase icon just above your skills.
To complete a map, you will need to destroy all of the turrets and the dampener in a lane, and then get into the enemy base and destroy the power core. As you move around both sides will spawn waves of drones, to hide behind and destroy. If you remove the enem,y dampener, your drones become more powerful in that lane.
Outside of the lanes there is the Urban Jungle, here you can find neutral monsters that when destroyed will give you and your team powerful boosts. Though you can also be ambushed by your opponents too these rewards can be a game changer.
Community
There is a growing player base for this game, as it is still in open beta there is not necessarily the the amount of players you would expect for a MOBA of this high quality, having said that there are enough players to keep the games going.
Moreover, being the style of game it is there are lots of players working as groups as well as individuals playing for fun or the competitive side of the game. There is a set of forums that looks to be quite active too, and the full release of the game will increase the players even more.
Within the game you can add and track your friends, as well as create and join groups to hang out and play with. There is also an in game mail system you can use to communicate with players when they are offline.
There is quite a healthy Esports community surrounding Infinite Crisis, and there are events held all over the world, with the finalists able to win some pretty nice prizes, and the streams and videos of these events are held live on their website.
Graphics/Sound
Overall there is a pretty good feeling surrounding the game, and a growing player base especially as the game becomes much closer to its full release, which is as of yet not scheduled.
From the opening cut scene you can see the effort that has been put into the design and look of the game. There are some really nice videos throughout the game, and especially in the tutorial. The character artwork is really dynamic and engaging too, as well as a variety of costumes for each one.
Once you are in the game you can easily see what is going on, and the backgrounds and maps look gorgeous. The characters however can look a little flat in comparison to other titles in the MOBA genre, despite that the overall feel of the game is brilliant.
The fully voiced characters add a nice depth to the game, each character has its own unique personality and this is enhanced by the voice acting. There is a lot going on in a battle, and there is a lot of noise, but this only adds to the intense feeling of the game, bringing a brilliant counterpoint to the graphics.
All of this leaves you with a great feel to the game, at once both immersive and distinct enough to leave you enthralled while you play.
Conclusion
Infinite Crisis does a brilliant job of bringing the much loved DC characters to life, while simultaneously creating a fast paced action filled environment to play in. With new characters and updates always being made the game manages to stay fresh too.
if you have never played a MOBA before, or are a fan of the genre this game has something for everyone. Intense battles between good and evil, or blurring the line and just fighting to win all become a part of this brilliant game.
