Plotline

Icy the penguin is a very curious penguin. He often wonders what lies beyond the ocean and has always wanted to see the world. One day, he did just that. He dove into the ocean and swam away from home. However, he was unfortunate enough to land in a desert and we sure know a penguin cannot survive on the desert. This is where you come in! Help guide Icy back to South Pole by crafting paths of ice that he can move on and for goodness’ sake, don’t let him fall!

Gameplay

It is fairly easy to get started playing this amazing game as you do not even need to sign up. In terms of controls, they are very simple and straightforward. You’ll just need to guide Icy across the screen using the icy paths that you’ve created using your mouse cursor and the icy force that you have. As you have limited amount of icy force, it’s always best to maximize your ice force by allowing launching Icy into the air and catching Icy with another path when he falls. No matter how you do it, the most important thing here is that you must not let Icy fall!

Oh no, you are running out of ice? Well, don’t worry! Icy Run provides helpful ice cubes to help you regain some of that vital ice force you need. Be sure to keep collecting ice cubes because once you run out of ice force, you will no longer be able to create paths and keep Icy suspended on ice. As a result, he will fall to the ground. Besides ice cubes, there are plenty of other useful items that you should collect as well. For instance, the popsicles will reward you with points when collected. These points will determine how well you’ve completed a level.

However, danger lurks in every corner in Icy Run, and it is up to you to help Icy avoid them all. One such example is the sharks. Sharks will cause you to lose your ice force. As you may recall, without ice force, Icy may not have any paths to roll on and he will fall.

In addition, there are also turtles that you will definitely encounter in this game. These turtles will slow down Icy. This is a very bad thing as ice, as you may also know, melts over time on dry land due to the heat. So, the slower Icy moves, the more ice force you’ll use up to stop Icy from falling to the ground. If you do let Icy fall, you will then need to replay the entire game from the beginning. There is no level selection in this game.

Sharks and turtles may try to stop Icy from going back to the South Pole, the friendly dolphins are there to help instead! Be sure to hitch a ride on the back of the dolphin (gain a speed boost) and speed Icy through the many landscapes available. As you play the game, you’ll get the chance to guide Icy through various beautiful landscapes on his way back to the South Pole. From the desert to the tropical forests and even to the African savannah, be sure to explore all of these locations!

Last but not least, the game offers up to 51 different achievements for you to obtain, including Super Sonic and Speed Racer is you’ve collected 5 dolphins in a game. Icy Run even provides a leaderboard that lists your high scores. Compete against yourself and try to beat your previous high score!

Since Icy Run is a pretty new game, the community in the game is rather small as of current. With time though, this innovative game will definitely gain the player base that it truly deserves. Graphics/ Sound

The interface of the game itself is simplistic as Icy Run is an app-ported-to-browser type of game. The background images look nice enough though the resolution may seem a bit low as the images appear grainy. In terms of music, the game offers a casual techno-inspired music that is played on loop. If you find the music annoying after some time, there’s a mute button in the settings that you can use to turn the music off.

Conclusion

All in all, Icy Run is a fun and rather innovative casual game that allows you to draw your own paths using the ice force provided to guide Icy the penguin across various landscapes so he can go back home to the South Pole. Keep an eye on your ice force bar though, as once your ice force runs out, Icy will have no more paths to roll on and fall to the ground. You can collect ice cubes to replenish the ice force bar and also popsicles to earn more points. Beware of all the dangers that lurk in the in-game world, including turtles and sharks, and avoid them. This is the sort of game that everyone – young, old, or somewhere in between – can enjoy!
