This stunning game brings you a huge array of tactical and decision making fun while taking the fight to your enemies. Here you get to build your own base, upgrade and empower you units and enjoy real time base smashing combat. Try to destroy your enemy even as they send waves of enemies after you in an engaging game full of action and enjoyment.
The once peaceful kingdom you call home is being invaded by evil forces answering to the Violet. Now it must fall to you to defend your home and protect your father the king as long dead enemies rise and new foes reveal themselves.
Taken straight into the action you meet the princess and must learn to use the spells and units at your command in a brief tutorial. This will show you the basics of how to attack and defend as well as how the battles work. From there you are taken to your castle where you have a few buildings and must build and prepare for war.
As with most strategy games you must build a base, from which you will farm materials, build defence and attacking units as well as the other more interesting magical and unique effects that you can create. In this game there are 2 main things you need to make: Gold and Elixir. These are used to build, make and upgrade everything in the game, and you have the ability to produce them as well as claim them in war.
Once you have these running you are able to start to build your units. Each different one has its own name, design and abilities ranging from the Dragon Riders to Tanks. Each unit also has a particular strength and weakness vs other units, so mixing up your army is a good idea. Though you are limited by how many of each unit you can have these limits are raised as you progress through the game.
Your base defences also need to be taken care of, as in a battle you are not only attacking but must also survive your enemies too. There are a range of defensive buildings and you can move them around your map once they are made. Each building can also be upgraded to get more health and damage or other ability depending on what it is designed for. Making or upgrading will require builders and you begin with 2.
Once you are set you are off to fight. The combat system is a fun one, and it begins with a quick scout of the enemy base. When it begins you are able to drop your units anywhere behind the advancement line and these will then attack the closest enemy or building. As they advance the line moves with them and you can drop in more units once they are off cooldown. However your opponent can also drop and advance troops, and the line can move backwards towards you base.
This real time action is a lot of fun, and is the same for both PvP and PvE battles. You are fighting until the enemy is completely destroyed, or you need to retreat. Each unit you drop in battle will be lost and need to be replaced, even if you win. However you will also have the chance to receive bonus units that you keep and these are taken back to your town.
Each battle will reward you with gold and elixir, as well as the potential for units and rune chests. These runes provide a bonus to your units, each unit type can only have 1 run. But these runes themselves can be upgraded and empowered by destroying the runes you do not need. Units can also be upgraded in rank, which will provide health, offence and more attacks as you progress them through the levels.
The PvP element remains much the same, though instead of following a story you will instead gain points which count towards your rank. The higher your rank the better your rewards and these will increase. You collect them as soon as you achieve the required points, and attacking or being attacked can win and lose you gold and elixir.
There are also Diamonds in the game that can be earned through simple quests and PvE and PvP battles. These are used to speed up production, or fill in for missing gold and elixir. They can give a big boost to the game and you can earn them all in game. However they are also available for real money through the store and can be bought there.
The controls for Heroes of Paragon are really simple, it’s mostly point and click through a series of easy menus and in battles you just select what you want and where it goes. As this is also designed for mobile devices from the start the look and feel of the game is one that creates a sense of ease and simplicity providing you with a chance to really get to grips with the game.
For a new game there are a lot of players around, you can form a guild and play with your friends as well as find a lot of information on a variety of websites. Designed to be played socially there is quite an active community here, and the PvP element can bring players closer together too.
Heroes of Paragon is a really pretty game, with a clear sense of what you need to do and the military units look great. Presented in a really nice 3D format you can just enjoy the gameplay and the simple texture of the game feels really polished. The sound adds to this with a soft music in the background and the different units have their own battlecries and noises.
For a game still with content to be dropped there is a lot you can do here. Though it may feel a little slow at first as you try to build enough of an army to go on a rampage when you get going it is pretty fun. The battles are engaging and fast paced, so you can play for a little bit and still get a lot done. A fun game with a lot of strategy this is a little gem to be enjoyed.
