Plotline

There was a witch named Harmony. She lives in a fairly remote cottage with her pet cat. One day, her cat stole one of her magical wands in anger and dashed out of the house. The witch pursued it as a responsible pet owner should.

However, what she didn’t expect is that her kitty would draw the ire of so many other people, all of whom are determined to chase it down and teach the cat a lesson. Although Harmony is angry with her cat for causing so much trouble, deep down, she still loves her cat and would do anything to protect it, including using magical powers that she channels via her magical wand. Will Harmony be able to catch up to her kitty before the other angry folks do?

Gameplay

Harmony’s Odyssey is a puzzle adventure that comes in several difficulty levels, namely easy, medium, and hard. Which difficulty you chose depends on how you’d like to experience the game. For instance, if you’re looking for a casual playthrough, then Easy or Medium is your best bet. However, do take note that if you decide to opt for the Hard mode and ended up not being able to solve a puzzle, you can’t lower the difficulty. Instead, you can restart the level and get a fresh puzzle that might just be easier than the one you had before.

As a puzzle adventure game, Harmony’s Odyssey seems to only feature a handful of puzzle types. The game itself consists predominantly of diorama-based 3D jigsaw puzzles. Besides the subtle hints given as to which parts are placed correctly and which are not, these puzzles can actually be more easily solved from a top-down view, sometimes.

In addition to these dioramic jigsaw puzzles, the game also features other puzzle types like maze-based puzzles where you have to collect a footballer and sic him against the footballer from the opposing team before scoring a goal, two variations of find-the-differences puzzles, 2D jigsaw puzzles, as well as hidden-objects-based puzzles where you’re asked to find all the magic wands or at least a specific list of items in the image.

Overall, the game boasts of having over 100 dioramic puzzles in total, spanning multiple locations in the campaign mode, which includes the puzzles that are in the Arcade mode as well as the handful of puzzles you can unlock via the Home tab. To unlock these puzzles though, you’ll need to have enough stars.

You see, solving a level in this game will earn you a star. Taking on the same puzzles at a higher difficulty will net you even more stars, up to a total of three stars per puzzle. These stars can then be spent at the Home tab to unlock new wand cosmetics or new puzzle levels.

Although the game doesn’t force you to replay a level just so you can hit some arbitrary score point to earn those stars, each puzzle level does come with a Time and Moves rating, noting down how fast and how many moves you took to solve a puzzle. That being said, the number of moves doesn’t seem to be all too accurate for puzzles that aren’t jigsaw-based.

Community

Surprisingly enough, Harmony’s Odyssey supports co-op mode where two players can either compete against each other or work together to solve a puzzle. Which type of co-op, though, depends solely on the puzzle type.

Graphics/ Sound

If you’re into cozy games, you’ll love the gorgeous visuals here in Harmony’s Odyssey. The game uses vibrant and vivid colors to make its many beautifully-designed dioramas “pop”. The puzzles are also interjected with well-animated cutscenes that depict the story, albeit without saying a single word.

In terms of sound, the game provides a nice range of soundtracks that match well with the different locations that are featured in the game. Not only are they relaxing to listen to, but they also do not interfere with the gameplay or your focus as you try your best to solve the puzzles as fast as you can.

Conclusion

All in all, Harmony’s Odyssey offers a delightfully-cozy puzzle adventure experience that players of every level could enjoy. The range and variety of puzzles here are sufficient, and there’s also plenty of replayability as you’ll likely be driven to earn stars by replaying puzzles at higher difficulties just to unlock all the additional levels and cosmetics. If you enjoy solving puzzles casually, Harmony’s Odyssey is one game you’ll want to play!
