Candy crushing is in the past, here’s something new to do... gummy squishing! Travel a gummified world and match your way from Sydney to Tokyo, Paris, New York, Rome, Berlin, Shanghai and many more locations across the globe! With the brick gummies in hand, it’s up to you to work side by side with gummy architects to put the famous monuments around the world back together. There are also plenty of fun super gummies that you can get by matching more than 3 gummies together and lots of exciting boosts that you can have fun with! If you’re bored with the other ‘generic’ match-3 games, Gummy Drop is certainly the game for you! Try it now!
The game starts off with a very clear-cut tutorial, teaching you the basics of the game as you play! Like any match-3 games, you’ll need to match 3 or more adjacent colorful gummies together in order to remove them from the board. The gummies will need to be of the same color for them to be successfully matched up. For 4-gummy matches, you’ll earn line blasts that will allow you to clear entire rows or columns, depending on whether the line blasts are vertical or horizontal, after you match them up of course. Do take note that the line blast effect in Gummy Drop can be blocked by the edges of the board.
For match-5s in the L or T shape, you’ll obtain another type of super gummy called the bomb blast that will allow you to clear all the gummies in a 3x3 radius around it. For linear match-5s though, you’ll get something even more special – lightning strike! Lightning strike is able to clear all gummies of the same color as the gummy that was swapped with it. In addition, you can also combine 2 power gummies together to gain an even more powerful effect. For instance, by combining the bomb blast with the lightning strike, all gummies of the same color as the bomb blast will magically be converted into bomb blasts themselves. Of course, when all of these bomb blasts are activated (automatically), it’ll feel like it’s the 4th of July!
Interestingly, Gummy Drop also provides a building element to the game. In this game, you can collect brick gummies while playing match-3 games and use them to construct various famous monuments in each country you visit! You can also use the coins you’ve gathered from playing to build important functional structures like the port that will allow you to transfer any leftover bricks you have in one country to another. There’s also a resource production factory that you can build to gain bricks passively over time.
In Gummy Drop, most of the levels you’ll encounter will provide you with limited moves/ turns, though there will be some that are time-based. If you managed to complete a level with leftover moves, these extra moves will then grant random gummies with powers and activate them. If there are no more valid moves yet you still have some moves left on your counter, the game will automatically reshuffle the entire board of gummies for you for free.
However, if you ran out of moves, you’ll be given one of 3 options – 1. Buy more lives using the coins you’ve gathered, which I strongly advise against; 2. Try your luck at the wheel of fortune and 3. Lose a life and if you have any more to spare, you can replay the level. Option number 2 is very unique to this game. In the wheel of fortune, you’ll get a chance of winning an extra 5 moves or forfeiting a life.
Either way, if you strongly believe that 5 more moves will make the world of difference in your game, then this option is the way to go! Do take note that you’ll only get to spin the wheel every 30 minutes, so like I’ve said, if it’s not worth wasting your turn at the wheel, then don’t spin the wheel. You have 3 lives in total in Gummy Drop and once all of them are used up, you can either wait for them to regenerate by themselves over time or spend some real cash to buy some.
Furthermore, to clear a level, you’ll need to complete the objective stated. It can be something as simple as reaching a certain score or it may ask you to clear all the while tiles on the board. As you progress, the game will give you more than 1 objective, making each level much more challenging. For each level you’ve passed, you’ll earn a set amount of coins. You’ll then need to repeat the level for at least 2 more times, provided that you didn’t fail, at higher difficulty.
In addition to various difficulties, there are also many obstacles and blockers that the game has to offer! One example is the white tiles. To clear these tiles (they are often a part of the level objective), you’ll need to match and collect gummies over these tiles. If you find that a level is too tough for you to solve, don’t worry! There is a huge range of boosts that you can buy and use! They include combo boost, lightning strike boost and even the kite boost that will release 3 kites when matched to clear random gummies on the board.
Besides these boosts, there are also special ones like the shovel boost that will allow you to clear a gummy blocker, waterfall boost which will wash away a column of gummies, wind boost that allows you to swap blocker gummies, earthquake boost which shakes things up by removing 5 random gummies and many more! Discover them all in Gummy Drop yourself!
Although the community in Gummy Drop is still not as huge as Candy Crush Saga, the game has over 1 million monthly active players and almost 395 thousand likes on its Facebook fan page within 2 months since its launch! If you enjoy playing with friends, you might want to drop in the game’s fan page and chat with a few. There are fun events that you can participate as well. If you enjoy the game, be sure to give the fan page your “like”!
The 3D graphics in Gummy Drop are very nicely done. The gummies are colorful and very bouncy, and the sceneries as you travel the globe are beautiful to behold! In terms of sound, the game provides a catchy casual tune with a bit of the “tropical paradise” feel (but that is perhaps due to the country I was in - Australia). The game also coupled the music with plenty of ambient sounds of the urban lifestyle and of nature such as the sound of traffic and the chirping of birds.
In summary, Gummy Drop is certainly a fun-filled and addictive match-3 game which allows you to build gummy-versions of famous monuments in the many countries in the game! To do so though, you’ll need to collect brick gummies while you’re playing the game. Each level in this game is consisted of 3 difficulties, and by clearing all 3 difficulties, you’ll properly complete a level. The game also gradually ramps up the challenge by introducing plenty of different obstacles and blockers. If you need help though, there is a plethora of boosts that you can buy and use. Therefore, if you aren’t satisfied with just candies (hint: Candy Crush Saga), then you should definitely hop on over to Gummy Drop and have fun gummifying all the famous buildings while traveling the world!
