Gameplay

To start playing Governor of Poker 3, you’ll first need to choose which platform you’ll want to play the game on. The game itself is a cross-platform game – this means you can play the game either on your PC via Steam or Facebook, or on your mobile devices (Android or iOS).

If you’re playing on mobile like I did, then you can choose to link your game with your Facebook account to get a nice 5000-chips reward up front, or you could simply play by logging in with your email or as a guest.

Due to the unique perspective – top-down – of your avatar in this game, you’ll get to choose a gender for your character. The gender you chose will restrict the type of items you’ll get access to in the in-game shop later on... unless the item is gender-neutral, that is.

Governor of Poker 3 is very much different than any other “usual” poker games you may encounter on Facebook, mainly because of the seemingly endless variety of poker and other table games of varying stakes that it has to offer. These different types of games are shown as individual “poker towns” on a beautifully-constructed, Western-themed level progression map.

To unlock a new poker town and, hence, a game mode/type, you’ll need to level up, and to do so, you will need to play poker! Of course, if you often win big, you’ll find that leveling up can be somewhat a breeze for you. You can get some free experience points by earning achievements as well, along with fantastic rewards like more chips and gold (premium currency).

However, the game starts you off gently by presenting you with 3 of the most basic game modes it has to offer – Cashgame, Sit & Go and Push or Fold in the beginner’s part of the map. Some tables even have a smaller player pool just to make the game seem less intimidating for the new player. You’ll also be introduced to your very first tournament where you stand a chance of getting some huge wins as long as you make it to the top 30% of the leaderboard... which admittedly is no easy feat!

Governor of Poker 3 is a fairly competitive game too, mainly because of the various leaderboards it has set-up aside from the ones for the tournaments. Here, the top few players who have won the most chips for the week will be prominently displayed for all to see and aspire to.

In terms of the gameplay, Governor of Poker 3 follows the common rules used in any Texas Hold’em poker game, and you can basically choose to raise, check or fold whenever your turn arrives. Interestingly though, in this game, you can actually set your moves in advance by checking either the “Check/Fold” or the “Call Any” boxes while other players around the table are deciding on a move.

This is a very unique feature to have but setting your moves in advance is not only a very convenient option to have; you can even make full use of it while you’re playing multiple tables at the same time!

Yes, you’ve not heard wrongly – you can actually set up multiple other games (by clicking/tapping on the little Plus icon on the right while you’re in a game) even as you’re already playing in a game. It can be immensely challenging to play at more than 2 tables at the same time though, since your attention will then be split, but for the veteran poker player, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The game also rewards you with unique titles/ nameplates, such as the “On Fire” title if you’ve won a particularly large pot.

Need more chips? Well, there are many free ways you can earn some extra chips in Governor of Poker 3. Besides the free chips that you get from the daily spin and log-in, you can get more free chips by watching ad videos, email a friend, refer a friend and like the game’s Facebook page (one-time offer), but if all of these are just too much trouble, you can always buy using real money more via the in-game shop.

Real money can also get you the premium currency, gold, which can then be spent on the many items, namely hats and pins, you can then buy for your avatar. Some of these items can also be purchased using chips, but the majority of them will require you to spend gold. If you’ve got the time to spare, watching certain ad videos will win you a small amount of gold too.

Community

In this game, you can communicate with your fellow players through a series of specific phrases and words that you can choose or even selective emojis. Due to this, the social features in Governor of Poker 3 can feel a bit restrictive, but you can perhaps understand the good intentions of the developers when this restriction is added to the game – they are there mainly to prevent inflammatory chat and raging, and hence, helping to preserve the health of the community as a whole.

Graphics/ Sound

Governor of Poker 3 contains Western-themed music and graphics which are brilliant in their own right! Working in combination, both visuals and sound have successfully enhanced the theme of the game, allowing players to be more immersed in that good ol’ times of cowboys and rodeos.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, Governor of Poker 3 is an astounding free-to-play poker game that doesn’t only offer up a wide range of game modes, including other table games like Blackjack, but also managed to create that feeling of progression and immersion through the apt use of a level progression map as well as stunningly-designed graphics and sound. If you enjoy playing online poker, this is definitely a game you won’t want to miss. Give it a try today!
