One day, out of the blue, your late great uncle’s butler called you, telling you about your inheritance – a mansion out by the countryside as well as a rundown garden. Determined to escape from the dull day-to-day of your city life, you packed your bags and head right over to help Austin restore the dilapidated place back to its previous beauty.

Gardenscapes: New Acres is a really easy game to get into mainly because it’s basically a casual match-3 puzzle game but with some quest-related elements. In this game, you’ll be playing match-3 games, earn stars and use these stars to perform various tasks around the garden. You may need to get multiple stars to carry out certain tasks, and well, some tasks take time to finish so you’ll either need to wait or you can choose to spend money to speed things up.
There are tasks that when done, will allow you to place a new decoration in your garden. You’ll get to choose one out of the three choices available, but you can always change your mind later and purchase any of the other two choices. Complete all the tasks for the day to get a special reward and unlock the next part of your garden.
Now, the match-3 gameplay in this game isn’t exactly very unique, but it does feel a tad bit different. This is mainly because aside from the usual power-ups that you can get by making matches of 4 or 5 pieces, you can also get power-ups by making 6 and 7 matches. These are admittedly hard to come by but do keep an eye out for them as they can help you quite a bit.
Each power-up will help you by blasting away a certain number of pieces around them. Firecrackers (match-4), for example, only clear away 4 nearby pieces while the Bomb destroys quite a number of pieces around it. Dynamites and TNTs do an even better job of removing pieces around them. You can double tap/click on them to activate their explosive powers, or you can swap them with any pieces nearby. These power-ups cannot be combined in this game, however.
Every explosive reaction you triggered will gradually fill up a meter on the bottom right corner of the screen. This is where, once the meter is full, you can get a free special power-up called the Rainbow Blast. This power-up can clear all pieces of the same type once it is swapped with a normal piece. You can, oddly enough, combine two Rianbow Blasts to clear all the pieces on the board.
In addition to these power-ups, you also get boosters both in-game and prior to playing in one. The Shovel, for instance, allows you to remove a single piece of your choice and can only be used in-game, while on the other hand, you can choose to start a game with boosters which will grant you extra power-ups like bombs, rainbow blasts and dynamites.
All of these power-ups and boosters will come in handy when you are trying to complete the level objectives. The objectives can range from simply collected a certain number of a specific type of playing piece to clearing grasses (there can be many layers) and retrieving garden gnomes, to even dropping lemonade to the bottom of the playing area to collect them. Only by completing these objectives will you be able to earn a star and proceed to the next level.
Sounds easy enough? Well, the game spices things up with numerous obstacles such as grasses where you will have to match over them to clear, boxes which can be destroyed by matching near them, as well as chained pieces with chains that can be broken by matching with them.
Naturally, you are given a limited number of moves to solve a level, though if needed, you can always spend 900 coins to buy 5 more moves once you ran out. If you have extras by the end of a level, these moves will then be turned into free power-ups which will then be activated automatically to help bolster the number of coins you earn. If not, then you’ll lose a life and have to start the level all over.
Gardenscapes: New Acres is hugely popular among casual mobile games and after long last, it is brought over to your browsers. The game is still fairly new on the computer platform but I reckon the game would be as popular as its mobile counterpart with time.
The graphics in this game, although look good enough, seem a bit fuzzy. Due to this, I seem to have the impression that the graphics aren’t high quality enough. That being said, the jazzy music might be something that players like. It just sounds so soothing!
Despite deviating from its hidden objects origins, Gardenscapes: New Acres is truly the first match-3 puzzle game of its kind to implement a progression system that is based on earning stars and completing tasks. The game can be quite addictive especially for curious players since they will be interested to unlock and explore new sections of the massive garden. Find Games Like Gardenscapes: New Acres
