Gameplay

The game starts you off at level 1 by providing an interactive tutorial. However, if you have had experience with any match-3 game, the controls and game concept are pretty much the same. In Fiesta, you’ll need to match up 3 or more firecrackers of the same color in order to explode them into a shower of colorful sparks while obtaining some points.

Of course, like most match-3 games, the more firecrackers you can match, the better. Not to mention, in addition to getting more points, you will gain special firecrackers too. For instance, by matching 4 firecrackers of the same color together, you’ll gain a special firecracker that seems to have an electron orbiting around it at high speed. Depending on how you matched the 4 firecrackers up, the electron will orbit in a vertical or a horizontal manner. The orientation of the electron orbit is important as it determines what effect you’ll get when you match the special firecracker up. For special firecrackers with a vertical orbit, they will remove all the firecrackers on the same column, while for firecrackers with a horizontal orbit, they will clear off an entire row of firecrackers instead!

You could even match up 5 firecrackers and get something even more special in Fiesta. By matching firecrackers in a T or L configuration (or as the game calls it, “in a cross combination”), you will get a special firecracker with 2 electrons that are orbiting the firecracker in an X fashion. When matched, this special firecracker will trigger all the other firecrackers on the same row and column as it is to explode into glorious fireworks. If the 5 firecrackers are matched up in a linear form, you’ll get a pair of maracas instead. The maracas will then remove all firecrackers of the same color on the playing field as the firecracker you swapped your maracas with. Interestingly, you could even combine 2 special firecrackers together by swapping both of them with each other to get an even more powerful effect!

To win a level in Fiesta: Match 3, you will need to complete the objective set in every level. Different level will have different goals that can range from collecting a certain amount of points to collecting tiki masks by dropping them to the bottom or clearing off all the ice tiles. Furthermore, Fiesta is more of a puzzle-type match-3 game as opposed to a time-based match-3 game like Bejeweled Blitz. Thus, you are given limited number of moves to complete each level. You will have to take care not to waste too many of your moves or you might not be able to complete a level.

If that happens, you will then lose a life from your total of 5 lives. The life system in Fiesta is the same as in many other match-3 games – they take quite a long time to regenerate and the only other way to speed things up is by buying extra lives using real cash. However, if your match-3 skills prove to be better than what challenges the game throws your way, you may even be able to complete a level with plenty extra moves. They won’t be wasted though as every remaining move you have will be converted into bonus points.

How well you complete a level will be indicated by how many stars you get. You can obtain a maximum of 3 stars per level and these stars can be accumulated to unlock access treasure chests containing free coins. In addition to earning coins by successfully completing level, more bonus coins can be attained by inviting new friends to play Fiesta with you or by finishing jobs on the job board in the game.

These coins can be, in turn, used to purchase boosters that you may need to solve a particularly tough level. There are only 3 different boosters in Fiesta and they can be unlocked, one by one, as you progress through the game. They include “delete the element” which will allow you to remove 1 firecracker of your choice, “delete the column” whereby you can remove all the firecrackers on a column you choose, and lastly, “Shuffle all elements on screen” that does what it says in its name... that is to shuffle the entire board of firecrackers.

Fiesta also has collections that you can complete by gathering all the souvenirs are you travel the world. The game has many levels for you to enjoy, with more levels in the pipeline, so you won’t be running out of levels too soon! Don’t forget to strive for the top spot on the leaderboard as well and put all your friends’ high scores to shame!

Community

Being a rather new game, Fiesta currently has a surprisingly sizeable community. However, you can still do your part in expanding the community in the game. If you do enjoy the game, be sure to invite your friends to play Fiesta with you. After all, the more the merrier, right?

Graphics/ Sound

The graphics in Fiesta are colorful and exude a cheerful feel – it is, after all, a game about celebrating a festival. The animation effects whenever you made a match look very nicely done as well. In terms of music, it can be rather catchy at first, but due to being short and very repetitive, it will soon lose its charm and become annoying. Thank goodness there’s the mute button.

Conclusion

All in all, Fiesta: Match 3 is an amazing match-3 game that will definitely eats up your time once you really get into it – it is that addictive! There are many levels for you to play as you travel across the world in this game. Use the many special firecrackers and boosters to your advantage and progress through as many levels as you can. Not to mention, there are also collections that you can complete and stars to collect. So, put on your sombrero and shake those maracas – it’s time to kick up some festival cheer with Fiesta: Match-3!
