Being a young yet promising mage, you are headhunted by a prominent member of the mages’ guild, Fairy Tail, and recruited to join their ranks. However, to prove yourself worthy of the trust they’ve placed on you, you will need to travel the world and use your magical powers for good, while striving to improve yourself every step of the way.
Trouble is brewing in the kingdom of Fior though and the Dark Guild, led by the evil wizard Zeref, is on the rise once again. This time, Zeref has an immensely powerful weapon on his side - a magical flute that kills whoever that hears its song. Bodies are piling up and the kingdom is slowly crumbling as Zeref sweeps across the nation. It’s up to you and your band of comrades to take him down. The only question remained... are you powerful enough?
Ready to start honing your skills to become the ultimate mage in Fairy Tail? Great! To start, you’ll need to create your character. There are 4 character classes to choose from, namely Dragonslayer, Elemental Mage, Knight Mage, and Summoner, and you’ll get to choose between male and female for each class. However, as the character models are based on actual characters in the Fairy Tail universe, there isn’t any customization options provided.
Once everything’s set up and ready, you can start questing your way to mage supremacy! The questing process in Fairy Tail is very similar to the process you’d experience in other web-based MMORPGs. Quests have an auto-pathfinding feature so you don’t need to move your character manually between quest NPCs. Interestingly though, each quest (as well as instances, as you will find out later on) has a nifty part where it states the recommended Battle Rating. This is a very helpful indicator so that you won’t accidentally take on enemies that are way above your Battle Rating.
For combat, Fairy Tail automates the process so you won’t need to manually select skills to use during battle. The game pretty much plays itself with the exception that you’ll still need to manually improve your character via upgrades and you will still need to manually hand in completed quests. Most combat events in the game are instance-based, and each “chapter” in the game will feature a different instance location.
Similar to MMORPGs like One Piece 2: Pirate King, the combat system in Fairy Tail is team-based. This means that you can have up to 5 different characters in the 5 positions in the formation circle (called Pantagram). Each position in the Pantagram corresponds to a different element, and each element provides a boost to a specific attribute if the position is filled. You can easily recruit more partners at the Inn as long as you have sufficient amount of Heritage Cards. Naturally, higher graded cards will get you a random (any 1 of the 4 classes) but higher quality character.
You’ll be able to equip your character in Fairy Tail with armor, weapon and accessories, and you can do so for your companions too. Don’t forget to enhance (increase level and attribute of item), upgrade (increase quality of item) or enchant (change attributes of item) your equipment so as to increase the battle rating these items contribute to your overall “Battle Rating”. You can even craft better gear by obtaining formula from elite dungeons and having enough Demonized Crystal to boost your battle rating. “Battle Rating” is the sole indicator of how powerful your team of Fairy Tail characters are in this game, so you should take care to improve it as much and as often as you can.
There are plenty of other ways you can improve your battle rating. For instance, you can upgrade your magical powers by leveling them up using magic crystals. You could also buy more powerful magic skills from the in-game Magic Crystal Shop or merge skills to obtain an even more powerful “ultimate skill”! These precious magic crystals can be rather hard to get, but well, if you have lots of silver coins (in-game cash), you could spend a hefty sum to mine for more magic crystals (up to 10 times per day). As most skills in Fairy Tail is elemental based, the game also features an Element section where you can “recharge” to upgrade your elemental spirit using elemental energy obtained from successful combat. The higher level your elemental spirit is, the higher elemental damage and resistance you’ll get.
You could also train your character in order to increase its basic attributes by a substantial bit for a mere 20 thousand silver coins. However, there’s a chance you may not get the attributes you want as the game does throw in a couple of negative attributes from time to time. In Fairy Tail, you can upgrade your main character’s rank from being a “nobody” (E grade) to becoming a “somebody” (S grade). You’ll be able to do this every 10 levels or so and of course, there are some requirements that you’ll need to fulfill before you can upgrade your character.
Furthermore, you’ll never run out of things to do in Fairy Tail as well. The game offers plenty of PvE and PvP content, along with a plethora of events to keep you engaged in the game. For PvE, there’s the Elite Dungeons where you can have a chance of obtaining rare formulas to upgrade your equipments provided that you can defeat the elite boss in question. There is also the Bounty Quest in which you can gain reputation needed to advance your character’s rank. Like most browser-based MMORPGs, there’s a blitz option that allows you to quickly “rerun” instances that you’ve completed before in order to quickly rack up materials that you need to upgrade your character.
There are plenty more features Fairy Tail has to offer and that’s not including the game’s link to the beloved Fairy Tail universe of characters. All in all, this is indeed an anime game that is designed for fans of the Fairy Tail manga.
Fairy Tail is not exactly a new game, but its game community is still growing. The game itself has around 160 thousand likes on its Facebook fan page and the page is kept active for the 2 years since it was established. If you enjoy playing with friends, you could head on over there to meet a few new friends. After all, you all share the same love for Fairy Tail, and hence, you’re playing the same game.
The music in Fairy Tail features a nice blend of traditional flute with modern electric guitar and drums. Although the base design or style of the music is the same through the game, the game has plenty of music variety that changes depending on situation and location. However, the music is looped rather extensively though. So, after awhile of playing, if you would like to turn off the music, you can. In terms of graphics, Fairy Tail has some pretty nice visuals, especially for its character models and the background image.

It has all the addictive elements that make web-based MMORPGs such a success among casual MMO players in addition to its anime-inspired setting.
