Summary

Eternal Magic is a brand-new MMO action RPG that’s set in the turbulent yet breathtaking world of Terasia in which you’ve been tasked to save from certain impending cataclysm. The game features tons of challenging dungeons, fun PvP battlegrounds with a variety of game modes, as well as plenty of the typical tropes that you’d come to expect from an MMORPG like chains of kill and fetch quests, gorgeous mounts, cool costumes and more.

Plotline

The world of Terasia is in great peril and only you can save it from an impending cataclysm.

That’s basically the Cliff-Notes version of the story and it does seem rather generic, to the point where many players would probably just play the game for the gameplay itself rather than the story. Eternal Magic does come with a couple of pretty nice cutscenes though!

Gameplay

To start, you’ll need to first create your character, and when it comes to character customization, Eternal Magic is definitely all over it like a swarm of ants over sugar. The game features 6 archetypes and unique character classes, namely - Knight, gunslinger, spellblade, priest, mage, and assassin, and they all come in two gender, as in they aren’t gender locked.

As you play, you’ll also be able to customize your character’s builds by choosing skills that match your own playstyle. In terms of the looks, you’ll be able to change this by simply swapping out the armor you have on or by wearing a costume.

Like most MMORPGs, the core of the game revolves around taking and completing quests. Eternal Magic is no different. The game contains plenty of kill and fetch quests; though, thankfully, it doesn’t seem to have a lot of escort quests which is the bane of every MMO player everywhere. However, the questing experience here can be quite dumbed down, mainly because there are plenty of hand-holding – in the form of auto-pathing – and hence, there’s really little need for you to explore the world you’re playing in.

I should mention that the game does have Elite mobs scattered around the map that you can try to find (not very hard though). These mobs usually provide much better loot when killed but they are also slightly tougher to slay than the average mob.

Besides questing, Eternal Magic also has everything an MMORPG should have, including dungeons where you can band up with your fellow players and try to take down challenging bosses for a chance at better (read: epic) loot. These dungeons come in 3 “difficulty levels”, namely classic, heroic and chaos. You can find a group really fast too.

Since most parts of the gameplay involve killing stuff, we’ll take a look at the combat system in Eternal Magic next. The game utilizes a pretty good action-based system where you can dodge attacks by tapping a direction key twice and move about while using abilities. Movement is smooth here, and despite being combo-driven, the game doesn’t force you to memorize the list of keys you’ll need to press to trigger particular types of combos, unlike in fighting games and some other MMOs. The combat animation is very well-done too, featuring flashy and cool effects that make you want to spam your ability keys even more.

Although you’ll start with only a meager set of abilities, the game quickly opens up the entire roster as you level up (and you do level up quickly early game) and by the time you reached (at around) level 10, you would have already unlocked your ultimate skill which will allow you to do devastating amounts of damage.

In addition PvE dungeons, Eternal Magic has a fantastic PvP aspect mainly because it offers interesting variety. In addition to the usual classic battlegrounds like Capture the Flag, Domination, and Reinforcements, the game also has a MOBA game mode and a massive battleground that can house up to 80 players.

To spice things up even more, Eternal Magic contains a ton of other features including pets that actually help you in combat, a ton of cool costumes that you can buy, and player housing. You can even marry another player in the game and organize extravagant wedding celebrations.

Being a freemium game, Eternal Magic does have plenty of stuff that you can buy using premium currency in its in-game store. Although you can technically farm of those items yourself, which would probably take days, weeks, if not… months, you have the option of just splurging some cash and buying the stuff you need instead. Know that you’ll get some free premium currency as you play as well, and if you really scrimp and save, you might be able to get yourself something nice in the store without actually having to spend any money.

Community

Being an MMO means that Eternal Magic is very dependent on its community, and as such, the game offers many gameplay aspects that encourage cooperation and teamwork. One such feature, along with all the dungeons raids you might have been on and the team-based PvP events you might have participated in, is guilds.

Joining a guild as soon as you can is probably a very wise decision in this game, mainly because you’ll unlock access to fun guild-only features like guild wars. Plus, it does make leveling up a little less monotonous and who knows? You might make some lifelong friends in the process!

Graphics/ Sound

Eternal Magic may be a newly-released MMORPG, but it doesn’t exactly have the best graphics that this decade has to offer. The visuals here won’t wow you like what Skyforge did for me back when it first released, but the game looks good enough to keep you playing. Plus, besides the outfits that will make you want to throw your money at your computer screen, there are many cute pets and cool mounts as well. However, the game works well even on older PCs so I guess that’s one of the “pros” of having slightly older graphics.

The sound and music in this game is pretty amazing too, but I should point out that many of the sound clips you hear or certain animations or graphics you see, especially if you’ve been or are an avid player of MMORPGs (WoW, Rift, Tera, Aion and the like), are pretty much ripped from other, popular MMORPGs throughout the years.

Conclusion

Eternal Magic probably won’t blow you away by being a revolutionary MMO ARPG, but it’s a really good traditional MMO with actually-fun and engaging combat, challenging dungeons and battlegrounds that really value teamwork, and a host of cool mounts, wings, pets and costumes. Definitely a game worth playing for fans of MMORPGs!
