Summary
Combining both action and hypercasual gameplay, Dragon Hills is a very simple-to-grasp yet insanely-addictive, endless game to play. In this game, you play as a princess who’s furious that she has been wronged. Unfortunately for the target of her anger, she also happens to be a competent dragon rider and owns a powerful dragon. It’s now up to you to wreak as much havoc as you can upon the kingdom and let everyone know your wrath!
Plotline
As they say, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned", it's no surprise that a princess who felt she was wronged... for whatever reason since the game doesn't really explain things in detail... was furious enough to bring her pet dragon to cause total and complete havoc on the kingdom that has, apparently caused her grief. Dragon Hills doesn't have a complete story per se, but it's enough to get things going.
Gameplay
The gameplay and controls in this game are very simple to understand. You just need to tap and hold to make your dragon unhinge its jaws and dig. This is a very useful skill when you want to avoid most obstacles in this game, whether it is a huge pool of lava or a wall of spikes.
By releasing your hold on the screen, the dragon will automatically make its way back up to the surface and, depending on how deep you went, may even leap into the air due to momentum. Note that your dragon can’t stay underground forever as it’ll eventually run out of breath. Make sure to only go underground when necessary! Also, as you play, the dragon will move faster and faster and it’ll take all your reflexes and hand-and-eye coordination to dodge obstacles at just the nick of time.
The dragon is a powerful beast and will destroy everything in its path. It’ll even gobble up food like sheep and people. Interestingly, Dragon Hills also feature boss fights at the end of every level and if you defeat the boss, you’ll unlock the next level and hence, move on to a new location (different background and art). All of these actions, killing bosses and enemies or destroying stuff, will earn you coins but of course, you can also collect the coins that are placed above the surface directly.
These coins are important because you’ll need them to purchase upgrades to offensive abilities, as well as power-ups like money magnet, extra life, and coin bomb. You can also upgrade the revive chances you get, or even transform your dragon into an immortal, giant black dragon or any other dragons, provided that you have the coins. Like any freemium game, you can spend real cash to buy more coins. Watching ads can double your rewards or give you a free revive chance as well.
Community
Dragon Hills is a single player game through and through and, although it's not intended to be competitive, you can compare your best score with your friends and family.
Graphics/ Sound
Dragon Hills is a fairly simple game and hence, its simple yet adorable graphics, which honestly reminds me of Kingdom Rush for some reason, just worked really well for the game. The music is fantastic as well, and really helps to set the atmosphere.
Conclusion
So, in short, Dragon Hills is a very addictive, hypercasual-style endless game where the goal is to cause as much grief as you can to the kingdom that had wronged you. It’s crazy fun to destroy stuff in this game and the animation and controls are just so smooth and responsive. Definitely a quality game to play on your mobile devices!
