Purchase ingredients from the market and let the chefs you hire turn them into mouthwatering dishes. Keep an eye out for the food inspector and give him the best service you can so you can earn a 5-star rating for your restaurant. In a world filled with hungry animals, do you have what it takes to become the ultimate chef?

Plotline

The plot behind Dining Zoo is very odd to say the least. The game starts off with an introduction, explaining, in comic form, how the human race in the game was turned into animals – apparently, it involves aliens.

Despite being animals now, the populace will still need food to survive and being the entrepreneurial person you are, you’ve decided to set up your own restaurant to fulfill that need. You’ll get to save the world by feeding one mouth at a time!

Gameplay

Dining Zoo is very different from any other restaurant simulation you may have played before, mainly because 1. It is not a time management game and 2. It doesn’t involve a lot of farming. Instead, in this game, you’ll need to purchase ingredients from the ingredient market, turn them into edibles and serve them to your customers.

The ingredients sold at the market can be purchased at an unlimited amount as long as you are willing to wait for the cooldown for each batch of ingredients purchased to expire. You can also opt to speed up the cooldown process by spending premium gems or you can wait until the cooldown duration is down to less than a minute. By then, you can speed up the process for free.

Now that you’ve got your hands on some ingredients, it’s time to get cookin’! The raw ingredients you have can be processed or cooked through the many kitchen machines available. For instance, you can grill the meat you’ve bought into patties or steaks. The cooked food that you get can then be assembled by your chefs into delicious and complete meals.

The processes of ingredient cooking and meal assembling can take quite some time especially once you start cooking more complex dishes. So, to cut down to the cooking times, you may want to buy more slots per machine or chef’s station. Naturally though, to unlock new slots, you’ll need to spend gems.

It’s also interesting to note that you can stock up on both cooked ingredients and dishes in this game. Due to this, you may need to keep an eye on the storage limit for both items just so you won’t accidentally produce foodstuff that you can’t store. Not to mention, it’s important to store cooked ingredients too mainly because, sometimes, your customers may order them.

Admittedly, it’s a bit weird but like the old adage goes “the customer is always right”. If your customers just want the burger patty rather than a whole burger, for example, then why not just sell it to them?

The customers that visit your restaurant are also pretty chill since they seem to have zen-like patience levels, which can be rather unrealistic, but is incredibly appealing to players who just want to have a relaxing time managing their restaurant. Unlike most restaurant management games, you don’t need to seat your customers, but you do need to collect the coins from each table once they are done with their meals.

Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can even get a collectible item too. These items are vital to the gameplay as you’ll need them to upgrade your storage or to clear obstacles in nearby land. Once the obstacles are cleared, you can then purchase the land for a small amount of coins, allowing you to further expand your restaurant to accommodate more customers and house more chefs and cooking machines.

Every 18 hours, a special food inspector will visit your restaurant as well. It is important for you to treat the inspector well by serving his food as promptly as you can since he will be giving your shop a rating at the end of the visit. The higher rating you get, the more money you can earn per sale.

There are also daily tasks that you can complete to earn bonus coins, experience points and some food as a reward. As you level up, you will eventually unlock the Social Market where you can then trade the excess foodstuff you have for coins and vice versa. Of course, there are many other buildings that you’ll get access to once you reached the required level, such as the Vineyard where you can then ferment your own wine.

If you still need more coins, you can always dole out some real money to buy some. The same goes for gems.

Community

Dining Zoo is a fairly new game but considering the emphasis it places on having friends, the community in this game will definitely have rather tightly knitted. After all, friends can not only trade stuff to you, but once you’ve unlocked the Garden, you’ll then need to exchange petals with others just so you can have enough different colored ones to exchange for goodies at the Mystery Shop.

Graphics/ Sound

The cartoony graphics in Dining Zoo is not only suitable for players of all ages, it is also rather adorable-looking. The game is also serenaded by a pretty catchy music, but option if you prefer playing your own music in the background, there’s a mute button that you can use.

Conclusion

In short, Dining Zoo is a rather unique restaurant simulation game with a quirky introduction, but a somewhat refreshing and more relaxing gameplay where no rushing around is required. If you’re tired of the usual time management fanfare, then you should definitely check out Dining Zoo. It’s different enough to attract your attention and fun enough to keep you returning for more!
