Summary

DC Worlds Collide adapts the Crisis on Two Earths storyline of the Justice League and adds new things for a fresh retelling of the iconic story. It places the players in a position to command the world’s mightiest and smartest group of remarkable individuals in defense of this universe. This team comprises humans, civilized alien species, and some supernatural beings. Earth has always been a melting pot of sorts allowing you to form an alliance of metahumans championing all that is good and just. This group of heroes needs to ramp up its operations from their defense to a universal peacekeeping task force. Such fragile peace won’t last forever as a hostile faction called the Crime Syndicate originating from Earth-3 will throw everything in their arsenal to cause mayhem and destruction on all things.

Plotline

The people at DC knew they needed a decent narrative for their characters to garner an audience. The plot is well written and is an exciting take on a famous comic book storyline. A mysterious villain opens up the pathway between universes and connects it to a plane where mirror images of our heroes took on a life of crime and enslaved society. The Justice League mustered up a response to the escalating attacks and tried to drive back the invaders. It was unsuccessful as the enemies are of the same power level and have nothing to hold them back from using it. The team falls back and regroups in a secret location to consolidate their supplies and recruit all the help they can get.

The primary campaign starts at a hidden Star Labs facility that Batman has converted into a new base of operations. Here they gather resources to arm themselves against this immensely powerful threat. A portal has been set up using the power of the mother box to rally other heroes to help in the fight. With the foundations of a new resistance in place, they will strike out and meet the enemy head-on to thwart their nefarious plans!

Gameplay

Detective Comics has partnered up with Nuverse to develop this title into an idle gacha role-playing game. This is not the first in the franchise, and there have been previous mobile RPGs with gacha mechanics that were released. Battles are fought similar to how a JRPG works; each character acts in turns as dictated by the action bar on the side of the screen. In these moments, they can use special skills to either buff teammates or debuff the opposition. Proper tactical thinking and an eye for opportunity are required to be victorious in all of the engagements. New hero characters are acquired through gacha rolls, while equipment comes from rewards. As players complete missions, they are rewarded with currency to spend on recruitment and item procurement. Speaking of the units for a bit, when you receive duplicates of the same person, these can be fused using a fusion mechanic to upgrade them.

The progress of the story campaign is seen on a display screen accessed from the main lobby. It is a map overlaid with icons representing mission locations. There are other sections after that which contain an upgrade mechanic or a different game mode to try out. Another noteworthy thing included for quality of life is the drone system passively gathering materials for progression. This allows players to earn resources and currency even if the game is on standby and you do not have a lot of time to sink into it. It also conveniently reminds you to collect the loot gathered through notifications popping up on your phone’s home screen.

Community

There is a multiplayer guild creation function. Events and challenges could be tackled with friends. A labyrinth and tower mode is available for those looking for more challenges and ways to strengthen their favorite characters.

Graphics/Sound

Visuals in this version of the beloved comic icons are surprisingly decent. Models for the units are rendered in a stylized cartoon manner. The game is in full 3D; you can have a view of the character from multiple angles and appreciate all the details. There are a lot of variations in armors, and alternate forms are represented visually. The textures are kinda flat, but the models are detailed enough to be at the same level as those of consoles and PC. Colors are vivid and the palettes used are brighter, reflecting their published origins. Players will be treated to brilliant special effects and colorful items. The user interface is intuitive and avoids confusion about its functions.

Sounds in this title come with the quality expected from the publisher. Voice acting is superb; the option not to do so is understandable, but the developers went the extra step so that the story can be enjoyed properly. Explosions, special moves, and interactions are all audibly pleasing. You can find out what is happening thanks to the sound cues available. The background music fits the theme perfectly, giving off a heroic vibe throughout with a mix of suspense.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this is a fantastic and adequately made entry for fans of the franchise. It may not be as in-depth as other offerings, but it provides a substantial mental challenge. Role-playing fanatics will be happy as well, thanks to thought-out progression paths.
