Gameplay

The gameplay in Cookie Jam Blast is quite different from its previous game, Cookie Jam, in many ways. For instance, in the previous game, players will serve a different dish per level and the dishes you get to serve depends on the world you’re playing in.

In this new game, players will now gain access to a Kitchen instead. Here, you’ll see the list of recipes that you can craft a variety of desserts from, but before you can do so, you’ll first need to gather up the ingredients first. Ingredients are obtained via Reward Bags that are only given to you as long as you’ve got the required number of stars and are stored in your Pantry.

Cooking feels a bit lackluster in Cookie Jam Blast though since it merely involves waiting for the “cooking duration” to expire, but once the dessert is complete, it will be displayed on your display case for all to see. That said, cooking or baking desserts isn’t exactly just a “collection” kind of thing. You can actually level up a recipe by crafting it repeatedly and eventually unlock rewards like extra lives, power-ups and boosters.

The levels in this newer game is different too. In addition to the usual obstacles like chocolate that can be broken by matching nearby or waffles that can be collected by matching on top of them, there are more variety of unique game modes such as the Energy Level whereby you’ll need to help Scoops reach his car by matching and collecting energy cupcakes. In the Get the Topplers game modes, on the other hand, players are required to match near each Toppler to break the crackers underneath them and get the Topplers down.

All of this have to be done within the limited number of moves you are provided.

That aside, Cookie Jam Blast is pretty much similar to the older game. The fundamentals are still the same. You’ll still be matching at least 3 or more cookies to clear them from the board, and matches with 4 or more pieces will grant you special cookies, such as the Line Breaker, the X-breaker, the ice Cream Bomb, the Rainbow Cake and the Bee. You can also combine 2 special pieces to get a greater and more magnificent effect.

The levels are pretty similar as well. There are still various dessert-filled worlds for you to explore, ranging from Sorbet Island to Mount Caramel, and recipes for you to unlock. Each level has 3 stars that you can earn, though you only need a minimum of 1 star to proceed to the next level. You should get at least a star simply by completing the level goals.

However, if you failed a level, you’ll then lose a life. Each player starts off with 5 lives, but the lives will slowly be regenerated once they are lost. You can get lives from friends in this game or you can buy more using real money, but why get more lives when you can find ways to avoid losing them in the first place?

Introducing Cookie Jam Blast’s nice selection of power-ups and boosters! Power-ups, like the Spoon and the Rolling Pin, which players of Cookie Jam might already be very familiar with, can only be used within a game, while boosters like +5 Moves can only be equipped prior to entering a level.

Overall though, Cookie Jam Blast does provide its players with a more interesting and much improved gameplay with still retaining the fundamental features of a match-3 game.

Community

Cookie Jam Blast is a match-3 puzzle game that focuses on its social aspects as well. Players are encouraged to interact with one another by sending gifts of life. There are also leaderboards for each level where you can compare your highest score with that of your friends’.

Graphics/ Sound

Cookie Jam Blast stayed true to its French roots by providing players with French-like tunes. The music varies but they are generally soothing to listen to. However, most of the improvements done can be obviously seen through this game’s amazing and vastly-upgraded graphics. Whether you are playing the game on your mobile or on your PC, the colors and the 3D shape of the cookies stand out a lot more than before.

Conclusion

Although Cookie Jam Blast kept most of its game mechanics intact, it provides players with brand-new gaming experiences through a mixture of more innovative game modes as well as a Kitchen where you can actually bake your own dessert collection! With improved graphics and soundtracks to boot, this is one match-3 puzzle game casual gamers would want to play. Do give it a try!
