Gameplay

When you enter the game you are able to jump right in with your basic kit and weapons, you have a free primary and secondary weapon and a set of clothes. From here it really is up to you what you do. You can enter the battles or go shopping, though you need to earn more gold before you get to the good stuff.

There are several battles for you to choose from, a simple deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, control the board and zombie mode. All of these are instantly available, and you can just go play. Playing a game will give you both ranking points and gold which you can spend on new items for your character. The games are pretty faced paced as it is a first person shooter, so be prepared for action when you go in.

The gold you earn is used to buy new weapons and clothes, each of these has a set of statistics that will help to improve your character. There are also lots of different weapon types, from swords to rocket launchers and everything between. Each weapon has a star rating and the better the rating the more damage and faster reload speeds are available. Some weapons are locked behind a level requirement and there are a few that are diamonds only.

The clothes in Contra City Online function much like armour, they have a set of stats of their own and will help you to survive the battlefield. They also come in sets, and if you are wearing a complete set you receive extra bonuses to damage resistance, speed and stealth. There is an option to buy a full set if you have the gold in one go, or you can buy the pieces individually as you play.

As well as the items there are also booster available, these have an in game effect, and can be either passive or active. These boosters do things such as extra armour or health and have a star rating, with each progressive rank becoming more expensive. There are also taunts in the game, these are effectively an in game heal, and you stand and perform the action and heal a percentage of your health. These then are on a cooldown but provide a big boost to your survivability.

To earn gold you can simply keep playing, there are also things called Contracts. These are daily quests and you get 3 at a time. These all have a different gold amount as a reward and are a good way to get extra money, especially as a new player. You can also spend real money to buy the diamonds, which are a special currency and open up either special weapons or allow you to trade them for gold.

The controls are pretty simple, they have to be for a mobile game but they give you a nice fluidity and feel as you play. The style may take a little getting used to if you don’t play a lot of fps mobile games but it is easy to get the hang of and there is a lot of action for you to practice in.

There is a huge playerbase for this game, with a lot of clans in operation and many different ways for you to talk to and get to know other people here. There are active forums and many people have their own clan websites and places to meet outside of the game. A fun game with a lot of players there is a huge scope for social activities here especially as the game lets you form strike teams too.

Graphics/Sound

Contra City Online looks really good on a mobile device, the older devices can still play the game and there is a lot you can do here. The battles are clear and you can hunt your targets without any issues. There is a really nice 3D quality feel to the game and so much is packed into it that you really can engage and enjoy it when you play.

A great little shooter full of action this is a nice place to spend some time. It is purely PvP so you are always there against other people so your skill level is a big factor. With a lot of social activities, lots of different modes and gear to get hold of there is so much you can do. A joy to play and it really is an addictive little gem when you get into it.
