Gameplay
How Continent of the Ninth Seal’s gameplay is very familiar to the action games found in console games, and it manages to work well even on a mouse and keyboard setup, unfortunately there is no gamepad support which would have work well due to the nature of the gameplay, the only alternative method to make it work is by manually configuring the gamepad with a third-party software to emulate keyboard inputs.
Starting off with the game lets you pick your desired character class, there are a total of five available in the game; Fighter, Hunter, Shaman, Witchblade and Mystic. Each of the classes plays differently based on their different skill sets and attack patterns. The Fighter is good at battling in melee while Hunters excel at range battles, Shaman and Mystic are more on magic attacks and the Witchblade is a hybrid of a melee and magic user. The learning curve of the classes are fairly easy as players needs time their attacks to make it more efficient in landing combos.
Character customization is one of the best highlights in Continent of the Ninth Seal, you can change the appearance of your avatar in any way you like, from the hairstyles to its facial appearance, and you can change the parameter of the placement and size of your body parts to make it more unique from the rest of the players in the game. You can also add more cosmetics such as costumes by purchasing them in the item mall at the expense of real money.
The gameplay will definitely remind everyone of the action games in the console platform, instead of the traditional point the area to move, you get the WASD for movement and moving the mouse to control the camera view. Your standard attacks are placed on the left and right mouse buttons and doing different combination presses will make a different type of attack combos, your skills are mapped on the numerical keys for a better reach when doing attacks plus other special actions like dashing/evading when double pressing any of the movement keys or holding the Ctrl while moving.
The battles are done in a lobby-based system where you can open your own room or join someone else for a party mission, each level will have a set of difficulty levels that can be unlocked when completed. The missions are very straightforward; you eliminate the horde of monsters in a level and reach the stage boss then defeat it, after completing the mission, your performance will be scored and will be rewarded based on how you play, there are also random chests scattered in the area where you can loot for gold or other raw materials, enemies can also drop items that you can use.
The PvP area allows you to challenge other players in a classic battle to the death, there are no penalties in fighting, but you can get to choose from different game modes to satisfy your need to compete, ranging from the classic deathmatch mode to zombie, team match, relay and apocalypse mode.
Community
A lot of players are active in Continent of the Ninth Seal, making it easier to find party mates to aid you in your journey. You can invite or join other players when completing missions or quests, and you can add them to your friend list if you want them to invite them for future adventures. There is also the guild system that anyone can build and invite others to build their communities, or challenge other rival guilds in their attempt to become the best.
Graphics/ Sound
The visuals in the game are impressive, featuring detailed characters and smooth animations, each of the classes have their set of armors and cosmetics that were well designed based on the lore in the game, the same goes with the monsters in the game giving a more ferocious look and feel. Unfortunately, the level design feel uninspired as it lacks any detail and feels like a repetitive layout. The game also has a decent number of soundtracks and a series of voice over one line dialogue to make the characters feel a bit alive.
Conclusion
Continent of the Ninth Seal is a fun and thrilling action game where players can have full control on how their characters move and attack. Fans of action based console games will enjoy this game though the lack of any gamepads will take some time for them to adjust but the learning curve for the controls is easy, even fans of action MMORPGs will feel welcome with Continent of the Ninth Seal thanks to the familiar game modes.
