Plotline

The developers of Buggle 2 seem to assume that the player has already known about the storyline via the previous game and didn’t bother to create a new storyline for this new sequel. It’s a tad bit disappointing, to be honest.

Gameplay

To start your adventure with Andrew the honey-loving bear, you’ll first need to know how to play the game. It’s simple though... really! You just need to aim and shoot the bubbles from your bubble cannon to match 3 bubbles or more of the same color in order to pop them. You can easily press spacebar to swap bubbles between the bubble cannon and the bubble in Andrew’s paws as well.

For more advanced players, you may want to maximize the score that you can get by bouncing bubbles from the wall to reach the higher bubbles, so that you can drop chunks of bubbles at one go! Fire off shots that matched up consecutively to earn a combo streak. At certain milestones in the combo streak, acorns will materialize on the board. These acorns will provide a bonus 2x multiplier to each bubble that hits it. If you’re good enough, you may even get golden acorns that give out a whopping 3x multiplier instead!

By obtaining combos, you’ll also cover up some of the 5 honey-filled pots below. Now, you may wonder – why you’d want to do that? Well, the game covers up the pots that give out the less amount of score, so as to focus your dropped bubbles to the pots that provide more score points. Incredible, right? Thus, getting combos are of utmost priority in this game, so is dropping bubbles instead of popping them.

The game objectives in Buggle 2 are rather varied as well. There are times when you’ll need to “knockout” bees by popping bubbles around them, while sometimes, you’ll need to collect beehives that are usually at the ceiling of the board by popping them like what you’d do with a normal bubble. There’s also a boss level whereby you’ll go up against the Queen Bee herself!

In this level, you’ll need to drop the honeycomb trapped in a cage of bubbles. Seems straightforward enough? Well, whenever you shoot a bubble, the Queen Bee gauge will fill up by a bit. Once it’s full, she will cast an evil spell that may add more bubbles, for instance, onto the board. So, it’s a matter of making every shot you do count as having to many missed shots will mean that you’ll be adding more bubbles to the board rather than cutting their numbers down.

All the levels in Buggle 2 don’t have a time limit. Instead, you will get limited number of bubbles to complete the objectives, so you should make sure you can clear the level before you run out of bubbles. If you have any leftover bubbles, these bubbles will go through the bonus Bubble Time round and award you with a crazy amount of bonus points. There are also 3 stars per level that you can earn, depending on how much score you get. Once all the levels in a stage are completed, you’ll then need to get the help of your Buggle 2 friends to unlock the next stage.

Naturally, Buggle 2 ramps up the challenge in the game by providing a plethora of obstacles. One of which includes the fly bubbles. If you pop one of these bubbles, a fly will appear on the board. The fly, although adorable, can be truly annoying. It will stick around on your board until the game ends while trying to block your shot. Once it managed to block a shot, effectively breaking your combo, it will disappear. To avoid spawning flies, you can try to drop the fly bubbles instead of popping them.

Another interesting obstacle is the Rhino beetle bubble. When popped, a Rhino beetle will land on the middle honey pot (that coincidently provides the most bonus points), blocking any bubbles from getting into it. To shoo the beetle way, you’ll need to drop 10 bubbles on the beetle. Like the fly bubble, you can also try to drop the rhino beetle bubble instead of popping it to avoid the appearance of the beetle in the first place.

With such challenging (and more) obstacles in place, sometimes, you’ll unfortunately fail a level and lose a life. Once you ran out of lives, you won’t be able to play anymore games. There are up to 5 lives available in Buggle 2 and they will regenerate by themselves over time. If you can’t wait, you can easily purchase more using real cash. But seriously, why waste a life when you can use a booster to clear a level? Buggle 2 provides a huge range of boosters that you can purchase and use, such as the rainbow bubbles, swatter, long guideline and +5 bubbles. The rainbow bubbles are like wildcards that can be matched with any clump of bubbles of the same color, while the long guideline booster will help you make your shots more precise.

The swatter, on the other hand, can be used to eliminate all the pesky bugs on your board. This is perfect to use when you have too many flies in the playing field for comfort. There’s also a leaderboard for each level whereby you can compete with your friends to see who can get the highest score. After all, everybody likes a good challenge now and then!

Community

Buggle 2 has just been released in this month but the game already has 26 thousand likes on its Facebook fan page and is played by half a million of Facebook users. If that’s not impressive for a bubble shooter game, I’m not sure anything else is! Considering that you’ll need friends to unlock new stages in this game, you might want to hop over there and add a few new Buggle 2 friends. You can even help each other out by gifting each other with extra lives.

Graphics/ Sound

The graphics in Buggle 2 is as brilliant as its predecessor. The colorful bubbles and the bright background images do make the game feel a lot livelier and cheerful. I particularly love the sparkly effect for the Bubble Time bonus round. It is a very nice touch. In terms of music, the game provides a soothing casual music that is rather uplifting in some catchy way. It’s nice to listen to.

Conclusion

All in all, Buggle 2 is a very fun and challenging bubble shooter game and is comparable to the original Buggle game. In this game, you’ll need to help Andrew the bear to collect the honey he so crave by popping and dropping bubbles to shoo away bees and a variety of insects like flies and beetles. Gain a combo streak and earn bonus multipliers from the acorns and also by dropping bubbles into the honey pots below. For the tougher levels, there are a range of useful boosters that you can buy and use as well! If you went crazy over Buggle, then you’ll definitely love Buggle 2... that’s a fact, so don’t wait!
