Gameplay

To start playing, you’ll first need to choose a character! You can choose to be a magician and fight against evil as you set trapped cute creatures free with the forces of goodness or join the dark side by becoming a witch and use your mischievous magic to capture those annoying creatures instead! Don’t worry too much about choosing the right character for you though! You can later switch characters for free if you want and despite the 2 different characters, the gameplay is pretty much the same.

After you’ve chosen your character, you’re ready to hop right into a game of bubble-shooting goodness! In Bubble of Mage, you’ll need to shoot bubbles with birds trapped in them at other bubbles with the same-colored birds trapped in them in order to burst the bubbles and release the birds. Sometimes, you may need to press spacebar or click on the active bubble to swap bubbles while on other times, you may need to perform tricky shots like trying to bounce bubbles off walls just so you can hit a chunk of bubbles from the side.

These are important because the game provides you with limited moves for each level and if you have any leftover bubbles at the end, you will earn a bonus 700 score points for every one of them. Thus, you will need to use as little moves as you can to solve a level. Not to mention, if you are unable to complete a level after you’ve used up your bubbles, well, you’ll fail the level and lose a life. Each player has a maximum of 5 lives to spare and when all of them are lost, you’ll then need to wait for it to regenerate itself over time or ask your friends for more lives. You could also spend some real money to buy more lives... after all, a couple of hearts a day keeps the bubble popper in play!

In actuality though, these bird-bubbles are not the important part of the game though – more like a means to an end... what you should really focus on is hitting or dropping the special bird/s that your objective requires to either capture or release it. The bird/s may look a tad bit similar to other birds, so you might need to look a bit more closely. As you progress, you’ll eventually move on from trapping or releasing only birds to other cute creatures, like the small blue bear called the Bluechi!

Furthermore, at certain levels, you’ll also need to collect magical powers from your friends in order to unlock the level (along with every other subsequent level). If you need or want to, you could also spend some of the free diamonds (premium currency) you get to buy the magical powers needed. There is even a daily level that is available every 12 hours whereby you will be playing a timed match instead of the usual gameplay. Be quick and snag as many gifts as you can before the time runs out!

Moreover, each level offers 3 stars per level and, honestly speaking, they can be pretty easy to get if your shots are as accurate as they can be. However, if you did badly, you just need a mere 1 star to get through to the next level. You can then return to those badly-completed levels and replay them to get more stars. Bubble of Mage does try to spice things up by adding plenty of special bubbles such as the stone bubbles, the empty bubbles and the sleeping bird bubbles.

Stone bubbles cannot be popped but can only be dropped while empty bubbles are like normal bubbles that are... well, empty! Empty bubbles usually act as a layer of resistance for the bubbles you shot so that they couldn’t go too far, especially if you’re trying to shoot pass a huge chunk of empty bubbles. The sleeping bird bubbles, on the other hand, are perhaps one of the most annoying. They cannot be popped at the first go. Instead, you will have to get a direct hit at them to wake those birds up before you can pop the bubbles. If you want something simpler, well, you could just drop the bubble instead!

Although you may not use it, it’s great that the game provides quite a range of power-ups for you to choose from, buy and use... for those levels that are just too tricky for their own good! Some examples include the jelly bomb which turns a group of bubbles into gummy bear time bombs and fire magic that summons an unstoppable fireball that destroys every bubble in its path. There is also an ice magic power-up which is able to turn bubbles into shivering blocks of ice. Frozen bubbles will shatter when hit by another bubble, no matter what color it is! Impressive, right?

Dubbed as the chameleon of potions, there is also a rainbow bubble power-up that changes a group of colors to match the first bubble it touches. The bomb bubble, on the other hand, explodes and takes out whole groups of bubbles with a single hit while the lightning magic zaps an entire line of bubbles into oblivion!
