When a war breaks out between men and the gods the world of Grand Gaia is damaged and a force of 4 dark gods reign supreme. The summoners and army of the capital Randall have done all they can but the demons keep coming. Then you appear, brought to the lands by the god Lucius and charged with returning the land to men and stopping the dark ones.
Upon entering the game you are greeted by a mysterious voice and given yoru charge to save the world. Then a character shows up to run you through a tutorial. This will give you a guide on how to fight the battles and the basics of the combat system. Once you complete this you are free to roam, though do not fear in every new place there is a guide to help you learn your way round.
For each battle you have a team of up to 6 characters, a leader and 5 allies that all fight together. In the battle you choose which characters attack, and who they hit so you can target and prioritise to get the best results. Each player takes a turn and then it moves to the next turn until one of the teams is destroyed. You also have a Brave Burst special ability which charges up as the games progress. These abilities can be very powerful so use them wisely.
When you win the battles you are able to move on the the next stage of the quest. You are also rewarded with a variety of currencies and items that you can use on your heroes, to buy new heroes and to buy special powers, items and upgrades. You also receive experience which counts towards your level, and the higher your level the more you can do in the game.
As you progress through the game there are several ways for you to get new heroes, either by finding them in battle, or buying them as well as quest rewards and special activities. Once you have a hero you can either increase its level, or overall power by improving them and using other materials and characters to empower your characters. This gives you a good way to maintain a roster that you like and use up the characters you don’t.
Once you have a team of characters there are several things that you can do, you can enjoy the story mode. Enter the depths to adventure for items and heroes. There is the option to play against other people in the Arena, and win prizes for a higher rank in PvP. There are also a lot of other activities like special dungeon runs to claim specific creatures.
Your characters are divided into 6 factions, Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Light and Dark. Each element has a strength and a weakness against another, and mixing up a team of heroes will give you the best chance. Though sometimes the dungeons are specific to an element so you can make a full team dedicated to beating it. This adds a nice level of depth to the game and makes your character choices more relevant.
We found that Brave Frontier can be a little overwhelming when you first begin, there are a lot of characters that give you information right up front, and there are lots of different activities, bonuses and ways to improve or collect characters. While this is a good thing, the way it is presented can be confusing. Though once you get the hang of it there is a lot of enjoyment to be found here.
There are a few years under the belt of Brave Frontier and it shows in how big a community around the game there is. With players all over the world and a host of websites, pages and the official Facebook group there are lots of places to chat to people. With in game bonuses for playing with friends and guilds there are lots of people for you to meet and play with too.
The anime styling of the game is really cute, with some amazingly drawn monsters and characters too. The game itself feels a little dated, especially on newer devices but it still is a neat looking package. The ui is easy to move around and the battles are easy to manage, which gives it a smooth and comfortable feel when you play.
There is a lot for you to do in Brave Frontier, with a huge range of missions, adventures and special things to do. With a host of free rewards you do get a lot from the game. Though there is nothing truly special about the game, it fits nicely into the genre and has enough to keep you playing and improving your heroes.
