Blade & Soul Revolution

Summary
Blade & Soul Revolution provides a pleasantly surprising MMORPG experience. Although there is barely anything revolutionary, it’s a fantastic title that rises above its peers in the mobile industry. Set in a fantasy world patterned after the ancient times in Korea, you’ll do what you always do in typical MMOs: fight battles against countless foes, perform quests, and join various clans and communities. Adding to the gameplay is its fantastic presentation. The voice acting is superb, while the visuals stand out because, after all, it was made with the Unreal Engine 4.
Overall, the Blade & Soul Revolution is a fairly well-made game. Though it offers the nuances and the general gameplay loop of its peers, it stands out and it could very well be the next MMO you’d want to invest your time in.
Plotline
Blade & Soul Revolution has an interesting story. After creating your character, you’ll find yourself in a literal school of martial arts with a few other students. There, you’ll start the tutorial and learn the game’s mechanics.
The whole plot starts with an upbeat nature but gets dark quickly. Without diving deep into spoilers, your entire school was betrayed by someone who was a trusted friend. After which, you have to watch as your friends try to defend themselves and fight back, failing and losing their lives in the process. The enemies call themselves the Black Rose, and they’ve procured a powerful weapon because your teacher chose your life over that of the entire world. That means it will be your mission to stop them from wreaking havoc and causing mass pandemonium.
Gameplay
The first thing you’ll encounter in Blade & Soul Revolution is its character customization aspect. It’s nothing short of outstanding and comprehensive. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of races, body types, sizes, hair color, and eyes. The main appeal is the presence of a number of job classes which can dramatically change your play style. There’s a short-ranged magic class, along with melee types that focus on using the body and weapons.
The game itself is a typical MMO. The loop involves walking around its large and breathtaking world, looking for NPCs who dish out quests and rewards upon accomplishing them. Apart from the singleplayer aspect, you can also fight in large-scale clan battles and standard PvP modes. However, we only recommend that you do this after getting far in the game.
Blade & Soul Revolution’s controls are fairly standard for an MMO. You’ll move around the world via a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen. However, the game has a nice gimmick wherein you can dash from cliff to cliff which has cool animations. Unfortunately, it also suffers from automation. You can sit back and watch as your character levels up and finishes quests in just a couple of taps. Sure, you can play manually but having the automation option destroys the overall immersion.
That aside, you’ll discover Blade & Soul Revolution’s combat system is quite smooth and exciting if you’re not automating everything. The right side of the screen holds the attack and ability buttons which host a plethora of skills. Note that there are a lot of abilities to choose from (all with outstanding animations at that), depending on your character.
Community
One of Blade & Soul Revolution’s best parts is the clan and faction war aspect. The game promises a large scale 500v500, along with standard 2v2 and 4v4 PvP modes. With that said, there are a lot of clans to join and dive into, enabling you to meet and make new friends internationally. Note that the player-base is also fairly active and it isn’t rare to encounter players on the map every now and then.
Graphics/Sound
However, Blade & Soul Revolution’s biggest appeal is its presentation which isn’t surprising considering it was made using Unreal Engine 4. The environments look beautiful and immersive on a mobile device. If you have a decent system, you’ll be able to dive into the game without expecting framerate drops and other stability issues.
Moreover, it is undoubtedly one of the best-dubbed mobile games today. The cast is comprised of voice actors you hear on dubbed anime and big-name games. In a way, the voice work and localization rival that of triple-A games you mostly hear today.
Conclusion
Overall, Blade & Soul Revolution is a typical MMORPG but it manages to excel in everything that it does. It has above-average presentation elements, amazing voice work and localization, and an outstanding combat system. Moreover, its tale is something you’d want to see through until the end, and although you barely spend any time with the characters at the start, you’d want to ensure their efforts weren’t in vain.
So, start your journey in Blade & Soul Revolution and avenge your friends and help save the world.
